An Iowa Mom's Day!

OK~ A typical day for a Mom in Iowa.......Oldest son headed off to college and youngest son hopped on the school bus to head off to high school. Where did all of those years go by? It seems like just the other day they were both flying through the aisles of the grocery store and begging for candy at the check-out. And I'm still working on getting my youngest to like school! Just a month ago I came home and found him tinkering in the shop- He was dismantling a push snow blower. He was going to remove the engine and do something else with it. He completely understood what he was doing, but guess what? This Mom had no clue! After all, it's all in a Mom's Day, Right?

5 Things I LOVE about Walt Disney World!

OK~ The Five things I love about Walt Disney World are:

1- It's truly a magical place!

2- Mickey Mouse welcomes you with open arms.

3- Walt Disney was truly a man of dreams.

4- Here is where any older person is still a kid!

5- You are totally swept away from reality-a vacation of being a kid. Who would ask for anything more?

After all, it's all in a Mom's Day, Right?

Pickle jars!

OK~ I was slicing up some pickles tonight and thought to myself, "OH MY GOSH, the grocery employees must've ran when they saw me coming when my kids were little!" I cannot tell you how many dollars worth of stock I should have invested through the years in pickles! It never failed, I'd have one of my boys sitting, yes they actually did sit for a few seconds, in the cart and they would reach for a pickle jar. There must've been an item in that aisle that I frequented as there were many cha chings from the glass of those jars. Ohhhhh and the sticky floors I must've caused in that store. I always said, "They love to see us come AND they LOVE to see us leave!" After all, it's all in a Mom's Day, Right?

I'm thankful for people in my children's lives!

OK~ I am so thankful for awesome youth leaders in our church! Sy is pictured here with Garrett. He has been one of the most positive role models that he could ever meet. Do you ever wonder if your children will figure "it" out? I'm asking myself that question quite often. So, what is "it?" Is "it" their faith, their wishes, their dreams, or just life? We, as parents, look for guidance through our faith in raising our kids. Is it always easy? "NO!" I think God has purposely challenged us in raising our kids on a basis of faith. Living our faith is something that we all "practice" each day. So, we as parents need to say a lot of prayers and know that there are positive role models out there for our kids. Iowa State Fair 2009

OK~ We ventured to Des Moines for the day- I hit Macsworldlive.com from 10:00 a.m.-Noon. Had a great time! I dropped two of my boys, hubby and 14 year old, off at the West Iowa State Fair gates. I then returned around 1:15 p.m. to "retrieve" them! If you have never been- the Iowa State Fair is an Iowa tradition. If you life in Iowa, or another state, this fair is the ultimate! They got along much better without me, as I cannot walk near as fast as they can. The $250,000 tractors seemed to be a highlight of their day. They also commented on the amount of people inside the fair gates. Beings this was Saturday and so many schools in Iowa returned to the classrooms this past week, it made sense they would be busy on the final week-end. I did notice several families heading out of the gates with strollers and I can honestly say that I do not miss those days! I want my boys to become responsible, independent adults and pray each day that they will achieve this goal that I have set for them! What do you think? After all, it's all in a Mom's Day, right?

CLOCKY DID HIS JOB!

OK~ CLOCKY worked great! Clocky managed to roll off of the night stand (took the fall well) and then ran and hid right under Garrett's bed! Talk about a great way to get a 14 year old out of bed in the morning. I highly recommend this product for parents that struggle getting their kids out of bed in the morning! Now, I must say, this is day #3 into the school year, 177 more mornings to go. I will keep you posted as to the success of this obnoxious alarm clock! Oh, BTW, we ordered this from Amazon.com. After all, it's all in a Mom's day, right?

2nd day of school -YEAH!!!!!!!

OK~ Every parent around the world must say, "YES" once that first day of school arrives! I've said it before. How about a national holiday to celebrate the 1st day of school? Hey, in today's world, this could be a stimulus deal! Cakes, balloons, and celebrations could take place to honor this special day...................The quietness of the house is a little different at first, but, as most Moms know, it does NOT take long to adjust! Not sure what clock our school district runs on- BUT- scheduled pick up time of 7:12 a.m.- Bus showed up at 7:00 a.m. today! Garrett made it out the door, but I'm not likin' that schedule at all! I was so excited to see a little later pick-up time than what the past three years have been. Wishful thinking, I guess.................After all, it's all in a Mom's Day, right?

EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival~

OK~ My age is showing, yep, this Mom enjoys flowers! My teenage boys always say, "Why do we have to look at the flowers for MOM?" Anybody else have kids like this? This past year at Walt Disney World we happened to be visiting at the start of EPCOT'S Flower and Garden Festival- it is BEAUTIFUL!!!!! This is just a very minute sample of what EPCOT has to offer during this special season. Now, in regards to this photo, I am not sure what or who this girl is. But, I think I am safe to state that she is not where she should be. Someone spent a lot of time workin' on that crazy character! Do NOT pick the flowers! After all, it's all in a Mom's Day, right?

A Disney Vacation!

OK~ Our family is a family of Disney fanatics! We love venturing to Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Animal Kingdom is a park that I enjoy, but in all honesty, a day there is about it for me! Now, when we returned this past March, I began to ponder the following thought. We have tons and tons of pics of the Safari ride at Animal Kingdom. Now, I am wondering? Is this the same giraffe that we photographed in 2007, 2005, and 2003- How would I know? The kids seem to like to run the camera while cruising through the African plains. Maybe someday when I'm bored, I will try and match up these numerous photos that I have! After all, it's all in a Mom's day, right?

Clocky!

School starts this week~ Are you ready????

OK~ School starts around here Wed. a.m.-Bus arrives 7:12 a.m., hey that's 7 minutes later than the past couple years. With only one youngster (14 years old) to get out of bed in the morning, should be a piece of cake, right? WRONG!!! This kid does not move before noon. Todd has suggested we get him an alarm clock, that literally takes off running after it has been buzzing for approximately 3 minutes. I'm not sure where to find one, but the thought of one of these is extremely enticing. Imagine this- Alarm goes off, kid remains in bed, and WHAM, the clock is now moving around the room! Kind of a funny thought, huh? BWT- Anybody know where to purchase one of these crazy things? After all, it's all in a Mom''s day, right?

Golfing with the boys!

OK~ Just returned from a round of 9 holes at the golf course with two of my boys! I refused to sit in the house AGAIN, as everyone else got out and did something. So, Todd & Garrett returned to the golf course ( they had golfed 9 holes this a.m.) for another round of 9 holes. I have not golfed since my back surgery and let me tell ya- I pushed my whole body to the limit this time! Three years ago if you would have told me that swinging a golf club could cause so much stress on my lower back, I would have laughed at them. All you do is swing a club, right?

From the bunkers, fairways, pars, bogeys, and birdies, I experienced a little bit of everything. Garrett took control of the steering wheel of the golf cart and carted me from green to green! And ya know, we did get to use that Christmas Gift that I gave Todd many, many years ago- that LONG ball retriever- yep, I hit one right in the water! But, we found it. By the end of the 9 holes I had my original tee and my original ball. I can honestly say that Garrett would be happy spending an hour retrieving balls from the water!

Garrett had to give me a quick refresher course at the first tee off......I smacked the ball and he carted me up to my ball and I tried to stick a tee in the ground. He said, "MOM, what are you doing? You only use a tee off the first hit. Oh yeah, it came back to me. I looked around- thank God there didn't appear to be any bystanders............

And these numbers on these drivers and clubs. You know, it did not matter what club I had in my hand. A 6, 7, 8, 3, 9- they all do the same thing in my eyes. But, I do understand the concept of a putter- no problems there.

Not sure how soon I'll be hitting the course again, as my body is telling me too much is maybe too much! Maybe next time I'll hitch a ride in the golf cart and leave the swinging to the boys! After all, it's all in a Mom's day, right?

E-mails from the White House?!

OK~ I am listening to the debate going on as to why/how citizens across the US are receiving e-mails from the White House. The debate is hot and furious! Now, how do you feel about receiving "spam?" In my eyes, if I have not asked for discussion from the White House or anyone- I consider it "spam!" Ethically and politically, I'd say there are issues. So, what's a Mom to do? After all, it's all in a Mom's day, right?

Time to wash the car!

OK~ The skies are clear, but by the time I cruise to town and put my money in the change machine at the car wash- Guess what? It is now raining- Just enough to not warrant washing the car, but it amounted to not enough water to remove any of the dirt. Then another great idea- How about vacuuming the car out? Well, first vacuum machine ate my 3 quarters- 2nd Machine OUT OF ORDER & the third and final machine ate another set of 3 quarters! I must have looked mighty interesting as I pushed the return coin button NUMEROUS times and STILL NO POWER! And, much to my dismay never saw a single quarter! Solution to the problem, drive back home- dig out the garden hose (of course the sun is now back out) and find a drop cord to get out the Shop Vac. After all, it's all in a Mom's day, right?

SWEET CORN!!

OK~ Who doesn't love a nice yellow ear of corn, right out of the field? Especially when you can lather it in butter with salt & pepper! August is a great time of the year to enjoy this lovely feast in the great state of Iowa! I do wish that my child, youngest one, would sit at the table and eat it! I do not appreciate the little yellow nibbles of corn that I am finding in the couch, on the couch, on the carpet, and on the throw pillows....UGGHHHHH!!! He's 14! Shouldn't he understand the concept of, "We sit at the kitchen table to eat our meals!" Well, after all, it's all in a Mom's day, right?

Ready to tackle the greens!

OK~ Garrett turned 14, yep 14 years old in May.....He has enjoyed his clubs that he got for a birthday present! He also received MANY golf balls, but has managed to lose SEVERAL of those throughout the season! After all, its' all in a Mom's day, right?

An Iowa vacation????

OK~ This week started out with an outing with our boat on Clear Lake. Garrett wanted to dock the boat and visit The Muskie for lunch. This sounded like a great idea, BUT, this was Monday and once the boat was docked, tied, and set- we were informed, "We don't open until 4:30." Little problem, it was 12:45 p.m. This reminded me of a vacation we took several years ago. We embarked upon a week in Eastern Iowa around the Maquoketa Caves, Mississippi River, and over to the Iowa City area. Sounded like a great idea, right?
Well, the first thing we learned- the Iowa tourism book that our great state offers for free was of NO help! Many places were listed in this handy dandy book, but they were not accurate at all! We learned mighty fast that most places in Iowa were closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays! So, if you want to vacation in our great state, don't vacation during the first part of the week. Unfortunately, this is just one more reason to vacation out of state! On another note, a couple places we opted to visit, which did take some navigating to find- were CLOSED and/or OUT OF BUSINESS!
I wish I could say that we love to vacation and support our home state, but due to the fact that many venues are not open, Colorado looks like a more appealing place to spend a week in the Summer. Sorry, Iowa! It's too bad businesses can't be open for the summer tourist, especially when a lake or river helps support their business.
Just my thoughts. I will say if you have never visited the Herbert Hoover Library, it is well worth a visit. This library was one of the few sites open for tourists- and I must say, I was thankful for that! After all, it's all in a Mom's day, right?

Sears Tower~

OK~ Have you been there yet? These new windows on the tower are a thrill in themselves! I thought it was a very "strange" feeling as I stepped out here. I have to admit, the view is stunning! A totally different view of the city streets/sidewalk below! If you haven't been, well worth the road trip! After all, it's all in a Mom's day, right?
