I actually bought ONE item!

OK~ I don't know if I have ever done this before.  I ventured to Wal-Mart (my favorite love/hate store) and purchased ONE item.  I bought ONE tub of "I can't Believe It's Not Butter!"  Yep, that's all I bought.  One item.........have you ever had the will power to do this?  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Another GREAT conversation with my soon to be 15 year old!

OK~ I'm in the car waiting for Garrett, as I'm picking him up after school.  He needs to walk a couple blocks, as I have all of his trap shooting gear in the car, which is a Big NO NO when it comes to the school grounds- understandably so.

My cell phone rings- I recognize that ring...I think Uggghhhhhh

Me:  Hey there!
Garrett:  Where are you?
Me:  Same place I always am.
Garrett:  Oh~what car are you driving? (I'm thinking- I have A car)
Me:  My red one
Garrett:  I don't see you
Me:  Are you on the other side of the hill?
Garrett:  No, I'm over here.  Just drive over here.
Me:  I can't plow through this side-walk filled with people walking
Garrett:  Run 'em over!

I had the exact, well almost, conversation with him a few months ago!  His solution to getting anywhere is "Run 'em over!"  Well, once he does decide it is time for his driving permit there will be A LOT to learn!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The Monday blahs.............

OK~ Do you ever have a case of the Monday blahs?  Well, this Mom has a case today!  It's very dreary here.  Cloudy, a few raindrops in the air, cool~ I want it to be warm and sunny!  I guess I can't always have what I want.  But, I sure would like things to go in my favor.  I have one ill teen~ body aches, fever, chills~ hopefully those will be gone tomorrow.............Wonder why I have the Monday blahs?

Maybe after supper I will find the desire to get writing.  Do you ever have those days where you just can't seem to pull it together.  Well, I've decided that if the clock rolls around to 7:00 p.m. and I haven't gotten serious about writing~ I will force myself to write!

SpongeBob Squarepants in the background most of the day and is now getting to me.  I so hope he is feeling better tomorrow, or this Mom is going to go nuts! A sign that he is seriously not feeling well~ I have not seen his cell phone all day!  On the upside, as of right now, Skipper has kept his nose out of the fridge!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The cell phone hunt!

OK~ I'm guessing that if you are a parent of a teen, you can relate to this.  Garrett managed to "lose" his cell phone yesterday between unplugging it from charging and leaving the house to leave for a trapshooting meet between 6:00-6:15 a.m.  -yes, he managed to lose it in the house.  Well, we got home and turned the house upside down.  We shined many flashlights under the furniture, into the nooks and crannies of the furniture, no cell phone.  Today I asked his older brother, "Did you see Garrett's cell phone yesterday?"  "Yes, I saw it down here."  He reaches down, under the couch and pulls it out!  Now how did we miss it?  Another mystery, another cell phone hunt DONE, but this time it was successful!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

What country am I in?

OK~ I live in North Iowa, pretty American, in my opinion.  Just the other day a radio ad came on~ ALL in Spanish!  I did take four years of Spanish in high school (never used much of it) and did understand some fo the words.  But, I honestly never did "get" what the advertisement was for.  My point being:  I live in America and I listen to a "local" radio station and I cannot even understand the advertisement.  Am I missing the big picture here?  Seems to be a waste of advertising dollars~ guess what?  I'm no longer listening to that station.  If I can't understand what is being said, why listen?  I live in America and English (to the best of my knowledge) is the language of our country.  Maybe I'm not in America, maybe I'm not American, not sure where I'm at anymore!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

What's for Breakfast?

OK~ What's usually on your menu for breakfast?  Things are pretty simple in our house.  Garrett eats breakfast at school.  A couple years ago, he would eat a warm, hearty breakfast at home- usually waffles and a couple slices of sausage.  Sounds good?  Well, I could not figure out why his lunch account was depleted so quickly.  Well, he would not only eat breakfast at home, but he would also eat breakfast at school. I understand that teenage boys eat A LOT~ but I was not going to feed him two meals for breakfast!   I then decided~ he's eating breakfast at school and that's it!  I usually have a bowl of oatmeal- Due to the fact everyone else has different work schedules~ I'm not sure what the other two usually eat!

With the inventions of all of these breakfast bars, etc.....there is really no excuse for anyone not eating a somewhat health breakfast! Do you slave over breakfast or send your kids out the door with something simple?  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Spring is coming~ slowly, but surely........

OK~ I know Spring is coming.  In Iowa it just takes a little longer than other places.  This cherry tree is showing signs of life!  With rain in the forecast this week-end, I anticipate by next week, this tree should be blooming in full force!  Now, if Skipper can leave it alone~ I think I will be able to enjoy my cherry tree!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Skipper's Break In

OK~ Here we go!  I step outside for a few moments to enjoy a beautiful day and I enter my kitchen~ my refrigerator door is wide open.  And much to my dismay, the plate that had a piece of cooked chicken, covered in saran wrap, in a closed drawer, is now empty! The drawer is even open!  This dog has some talent!   I also see an empty bacon wrapper a few feet from the refrigerator.  At this point, I notice Skipper looking at me and leaving the room with his tail between his legs~BUSTED!!!!

The Guilty Party~ I honestly never know what stunt he is going to pull next!  So much for leftovers for supper!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Just Sayin'

OK~ I'm Just Sayin' that I'm thinking this is the saying of 2010!  How many times in a day do you see, "Just sayin'" ~ How many times during the day do you hear, "Just sayin" ~ It's everywhere~ Just sayin'  My 14 year old commented last night, "Mom, don't you get it? I'm just sayin'"  Geeze, it's now even in my house! Just sayin'~

Life happens~

OK~Thinking of life today!  It's a wonderful day when I roll out of bed and begin a new day~ as it sure beats the alternative.  I enjoy wondering what fiascos my dogs are going to engage in.  I also wonder if my teens will pull any "stunts" for the day!  Teens can literally send a Mother's heart into overtime in one text message!  Been there, done that, don't need to do that again.  Life happens.

My dogs~ they both took a swim in the little creek by our house and then proceeded to dig in gopher holes!  Oh yeah, a lot of mud to boot!  Life happens.

My kids are growing up, eyeing new opportunities~ one is contemplating how he will be able to save enough money to move out of this house and into his own place.  Another one is learning that young love takes patience~YIKES~ Did I say that?  Seems to be life~ Life happens.

So thankful for my family and friends!  I enjoy their company and am always curious as to what is around the next bend.  Does Life Happen to you?  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Schools are a changing!

OK~ We are treading into unchartered territory, in regards to our schools in 2010.  There are very few schools all across the United States that are not closing buildings, cutting teaching positions, eliminating para-professionals, and the list goes on and on.  I wonder how our kids will be impacted?  Kids do tend to roll with change, much better than this 40 something lady!

I pray that our kids will accept the changes that will be tossed their way, and I pray that those dedicated school employees that lose their jobs, will be able to find another job.  Here, in North Iowa, our population is declining, therefore; we don't have the kids to fill our school buildings.  Nor, do we have new people moving in, as there are not many jobs to be found. Therefore, no new tax revenue either.  So, the answer, raise the property taxes for the current residents!  Should be interesting......... It really is a vicious circle!

We are all going to have to accept the fact that our schools are going to look different in 10 years.  Times are changing.  We truly live in a technological world.  Our kids still need to know how to read, write, and how to use math skills.  We all will need to accept the fact that our kids will be learning these basic things in a way we have not known.  Let's hope that things can settle down in our schools.  Teachers want to teach, kids (most of them) do want to learn, and our future is sitting in all of these K-12 buildings throughout our country!  So, what are you going to do to make a difference? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

TV and volume craziness

OK~ Am I the only one that experiences this?  I am watching a television show, seems to be going along quite well and WHAM- a commercial hits and my house is jumping!  The volume has adjusted itself.  So, I adjust the volume to a reasonable level- that this 40 something lady will enjoy.  Commercial is over- at that point, I cannot hear anything.....So, I raise the volume!  Oh, and don't even try to change the channel and expect to keep it at the same level!

My take on this~ just a simple way to keep us exercising while we are watching television.  Our fingers get a little bit of exercise!  Ugghhhhhh....I don't get it!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Earth Day should be everyday!

OK~ Pondering this upcoming day Earth Day today.  Why is it that we take ONE day out of the year to pick up garbage?  To the best of my knowledge we have laws- do NOT litter!  With some pretty hefty fines.  Well, in the little area of the world that I live in, garbage is everywhere.  We need to educate people how to use garbage cans, how to recycle items, and a general class on respect.  From the sights along our roadways, Earth Day needs to be everyday!  Maybe I'm all wrong, and littering is now OK in the year 2010!  This aging Iowa Mom probably missed the announcement- literring is now legal!  If everybody would dispose of their items properly, our world would be a whole lot safer and cleaner!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

My teens and the DVR Recorder

OK~ How many times have you been watching your television set and wham, SpongeBob Squarepants is now on the screen?  This happens to me several times a day, if it's not SpongeBob, it's ICarly, or a show to that tune!  How does this happen?  Well, 14 year old decides that he will record ALL of the shows he is interested in and over ride about anything else that is set to record.  I think this Mom needs to learn how to delete all of these shows and get rid of this annoyance!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Bootstrapped In Iowa~ lovin' it!

OK~ Had a wonderful day today....Spoke with the women of the Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa today.  "Bootstrapped in Iowa"~ all the way!  Having faced and continuing to face many challenges, I know how easy it is to get "down"  But, take it all in good stride- Turn to your faith, family and friends!  That is truly what will get you through.  Without my faith, I have no clue where I would be today.......Interested in hearing me speak?  I would love to share with your women's group, civic organization, your employees, family, or youth group! I can adapt to your needs! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

My thoughts on teens and violence

OK~ Yesterday was a crazy day with the Trap Shooting Season fully underway- opening meet.  During a brief break during my crazy day I glanced at the news.  And, I was totally dismayed when I read the story of teens destroying an Apple IPad.  These teens think it is "cute" to purchase what I call an expensive piece of electronics and then destroy it with a baseball bat. This, in my eyes is violence.  Do you know how many students in schools would love to have an opportunity to own one of these and use it appropriately?  My thinking, these teens need to spend some time working in a soup kitchen, reading with homeless children, cleaning up rooms in an inner city or participating in Earth Day activities, each and every day!

These teens obviously have no respect for money or others.  This is one of the most disrespectful forms of behavior I have ever seen.  I, myself, read the news story, but will not view the video.  I'm assuming these disrespectful teens want numbers and this Mom is not giving them hers!  I do wonder what their parents think~ teens do make their own choices, the parents don't make them for them.  If it were my teen, I would want to crawl in a hole and not reappear for a few days!  Well, I guess we all have to deal with these types of behavior on a daily basis, so I guess we all better get used to accepting it.  Seems to be respect has been tossed out the window~ How on earth do we change this around?  After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?
