Schools are a changing!

OK~ We are treading into unchartered territory, in regards to our schools in 2010.  There are very few schools all across the United States that are not closing buildings, cutting teaching positions, eliminating para-professionals, and the list goes on and on.  I wonder how our kids will be impacted?  Kids do tend to roll with change, much better than this 40 something lady!

I pray that our kids will accept the changes that will be tossed their way, and I pray that those dedicated school employees that lose their jobs, will be able to find another job.  Here, in North Iowa, our population is declining, therefore; we don't have the kids to fill our school buildings.  Nor, do we have new people moving in, as there are not many jobs to be found. Therefore, no new tax revenue either.  So, the answer, raise the property taxes for the current residents!  Should be interesting......... It really is a vicious circle!

We are all going to have to accept the fact that our schools are going to look different in 10 years.  Times are changing.  We truly live in a technological world.  Our kids still need to know how to read, write, and how to use math skills.  We all will need to accept the fact that our kids will be learning these basic things in a way we have not known.  Let's hope that things can settle down in our schools.  Teachers want to teach, kids (most of them) do want to learn, and our future is sitting in all of these K-12 buildings throughout our country!  So, what are you going to do to make a difference? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

  1. Our schools are indeed in a sad state of affairs and it's our children who are suffering. I have been volunteering at least one day a week in my son's class all day. She loves it. I can help her get things done. But more importantly I can go around and help the kids who may need a little extra help.
