I'm ready for a new week~

OK~ This past week was VERY crazy......From visiting the Iowa Driver's License Station for the 11th time with my 15 year old son, to two flat tires~ this Mom is ready for a quiet week.  Looking ahead~ it's not quiet!  Mohawk Trapshooting Committee Meeting, selling bandanas for PTO while RAGRBRAI cruises through Iowa, and taking Wally back to the Vet to have his infected eye re-checked!   I can't say life is boring......

The highlight of my week was watching Garret, who's 15, interact with 17-18 Pre-schoolers at VBS this past week.  He really, really enjoyed his time with these kids.  I still laugh when I think back to the parent of a flag football team that he helped coach a couple years ago (he volunteered with our local parks and rec dept) ~ this parent says to me, "Garrett is really good with kids.  I'll bet he wants to be a teacher!"  I looked at them and said, "I'm sorry but he really does not like school!"  That was one of the years I was on speed dial with the Principal!  Thinking back, you know~ he is finding his way~ and he enjoys kids!  You never know, he may be a teacher someday.  I wish every teen or tween would take the opportunity to volunteer through their local parks and rec dept. or their church.

I have seen the positive experience this has provided my son and my wish is for other teens to hop on the wagon and make a difference in the lives of these younger kids!  I do understand that everybody is busy~ but, if EVERYONE was busy~ we probably wouldn't have a problem with teens and vandalism, underage drinking, etc..........the list continues!   I can't change the world, but I can pray and offer some advice here and there!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
