How to make a 14 year old boy smirk?

OK~  Just picked Garrett up from a movie (date)- this 14 year old girl that he is "going out" with.....Well, she, of course, brought a friend.  They all 3 enjoyed the movie, or so I hear!  Garrett and I are sitting in the car waiting to back out of a parking space.  Garrett gets his phone out and texts away~  She usually responds rather quickly- Well, in about 15 seconds my phone receives a text message:

What u think of movie

I read the text message and look at Garrett- his prompt response- BIG SMIRK ON HIS FACE!- and says- "OOOOPS!  Don't you hate that when you send a text to the wrong person?"

The Week of March 1st is gonna be rockin' over on THE VIEW!

OK~  You know, since I have this silly title called, Ambassador for The View, it is my duty to update YOU on the latest happenings.  This past week was interesting- I have to say, I struggled to watch OCTOMOM- won't say anymore, as I don't feel she deserves any more publicity.  On to the week of March 1st!  Looks like an awesome lineup-  Lisa Kudrow, Valerie Bertinelli,  Wesley Snipes and Robert Pattinson will all appear next week! I realize THE VIEW can be controversial at times, as that is what makes this show what it is!

The roundtable discussions at the beginnings of each day can be very fun, yet opinionionated!  Whoopi, Barbara, Elisabeth, Sherri & Joy will entertain you from the beginning to the end of the hour!  So, check out your local viewing time, you will be glad you did!  After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?

Men's or Women's?

OK~ I had a "moment" today, as I looked out at all of this ice/snow.  Well, my mind took me back to a rest area in Montana, a few years ago.  Blaine was maybe 13 years old.  We had been traveling for a while and Todd made the announcement, "Upcoming rest area!  Anybody need to go?"  Blaine reluctantly mumbled, "ME."  Well, that meant, yep, but he really didn't want to get out of the truck.  We pulled into the rest area, he literally tromped out of the truck----We stayed back and watched.  He just literally doddled all the way to the restrooms.  Yep, he walked right into the women's.  We waited a few- more than a few- it wasn't until AFTER he used the restroom that he realized he was in the women's.  A few minutes later he exited the women's restroom 100 times faster than he entered it!  After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?

OK~ I am looking forward to a giveaway to help celebrate year #1 at All In an Iowa Mom's Day!  Can you believe I will have been blogging for one whole year on March 4th?  While sitting on one of our bar stools in the kitchen, I opened up an e-mail from CSN Stores, an online retailer. They were wanting to do an online giveaway/review with me, I said, "Sure!" They offer a wide array of products~ So, stay tuned.......In the next 10 days, I will announce the product we will be giving away at All In an Iowa Mom's Day!  Thanks for supporting me the past year.  I can sense that 2010 is even gonna be bigger and better!  After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?

If it's not a kid, it's probably this dog~ Skipper!

OK~ This is Skipper just a few weeks old, his head is now the size of what his body was at this time!

Skipper and the male cat, Susie try to get along (NOT)!  Just a typical day  around an Iowa barn.

Skipper is now "2."  His brain is beginning to develop.  He listens a little better. BUT- He is still loves to harass all of my outdoor farm cats, not a great combination.  Cats and Dogs, you gotta love 'em!  I have now determined that this is where 1/2 of our socks are disappearing.  I have sworn for years that it is the washer/dryer.  But, I've caught him in action, he literally drags any sock off that he can find - AND literally destroys it!  Voila~ Mystery solved.......Now, when he no longer has any interest in socks, I will have to go back to blaming my washer/dryer on the disappearance of all of the socks in this household!  After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?

An Italian Restaurant

OK~ We just recently had a really, really good (according to many folks) Italian restaurant open our area.  So, today we ventured in to try this out~ Remember, we are in an Italian restaurant-

Hubby- Can we get some garlic bread?
Waiter- Rolls comes with your meal, along with a large bowl of lettuce.
Hubby-  What kind of dressing do you have?
Waiter- Italian

Mental note:  Can you order French, Ranch, or any other dressings in an Italian restaurant?  He dropped it.  We had lettuce with Italian dressing.....rolls and an awesome Italian meal!  Meal was good, everyone enjoyed it!  And guess what?  We all ate our lettuce with Italian dressing on it~ no complaints!  After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?

The View~Ambassador

OK~ So excited to learn that I was accepted to be an ambassador to The View!  You may ask, "What does that entail?"  Well, since I am a loyal viewer of this television show, seemed like the perfect niche for me!  I love the fact that Barbara, Joy, Whoopi, Elisabeth and Sherri all bring their own personal views to the table.  Everyone's opinion counts~ seems to be what I love about this show.  The View can be seen on ABC, Monday-Friday~ Check your local listings for the time in your area.  Therefore, I'm going to be sharing a little bit of what's happening around The View, for the next month or so!

This next week promises to bring some interesting guests and view points to the table, as well.  On Monday, Feburary, 22, Senator Evan Bayh will discuss his reasons for not seeking re-election.  This is sure to bring some "hot" discussion to the table.  And, on Wednesday, Danielle Steele is scheduled to appear.  I have read so many of her books, and I'm sure many of you also have.  More great guests in between these and an awesome cast to round out the week.  If you are not a regular viewer, watch it a couple times! You just might find your view will be represented at the table, as well!  After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?

Does this sound like your house?

OK~ As a Mom to a teen- Here's the conversation at our house this morning with our 14 year old.

Todd:  Hey "G"
Garrett:  I'm Bored

What? He has been awake for 5 minutes, 5 whole minutes!  He had just got out of bed and came down the stairs to find a pair of socks.  Now, many of you know I have been on a sock hunt- I have determined that this is where the socks are disappearing to  - My First Wordless Wednesday Post explains it all- Two dogs pulling on socks- My dogs are literally destroying a sock at a time.  Time to invest in a few more rawhides!  After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?

I'm taking back the supper table!

OK~ I realized last night at the supper table, this Mom has lost control of meal time.  19 year old is texting, 14 year old is texting- Hubby- to top this off- is listening to some pod cast on his I-Phone!  What????  I had actually cooked a meal and this is how it went!  Have you lost control of meal time at your house?  This Mom has got to get it back.  It's a rare occasion when all four of us actually sit down to eat together, due to work schedules.  Blaine, who is 19, works in a restaurant, so he is quite often not home for meals.  On this rare occasion, this is what I witness.  I guess this is 2010. right?  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Is today another holiday?

OK~ How many of you knew that today is a holiday?  Chances are that if you had a "paid" holiday today, you were aware of this.  Today is President's Day.  Yesterday was Valentine's Day.  Looking ahead, looks like St. Patricks Day is next!  How important are all of these holidays in the lives of your families?  I can honestly say that many of these holidays are just another day in "paradise" at the Broers household.  Skipper is dragging a frozen carcass, through the deep snow, around in the yard.  Wally is harassing a farm cat here or there.  Garrett complained that he had school today- we had snow and winds earlier in the day.  Blaine is still in bed!  Todd is sleeping, as he works tonight (through the night).  That leaves me and my blog! Were we supposed to do something for President's Day?  If so, this Mom missed it!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Top 8 Things teens do when it's a Snow Day!

OK~ My random thoughts and a recap of how teens cope with ,what I have observed, through these massive numbers of Snow Days we have had in North Iowa this year!    Here's my Top 8!

1)  Go to the Mall, Mom and Dad won't have a clue we left the house!  (I don't understand this one, it's a Snow Day, STAY HOME!  Living in the country, we are STUCK at home!)

2)  Play video games online from 10 a.m.-Midnight (There surely won't be school tomorrow, so it's OK to stay up until Midnight!)

3)  Eat pizza.......pizza.......pizza!  (This doesn't work when there are no frozen pizzas in the freezer!)  Therefore, it can get ugly at this house.

4)  Keep those text messages a coming.......Never know when they might miss out on the "hot" news.

5)  Listen to the local radio station 24/7- to make sure they hear the announcement that school is delayed
for 2 hours the next day.

6)  Head out to McDonald's (If you can get there safely)- Key word, safely.......

7)  They put off showering as long as possible....EWWWWWWW

8)  The best idea I've seen yet, My husband and Garrett built a snow fort, out in our yard, on one of these days!

I'm trying hard to grasp the term "SNOW DAY"- this generally means the Department of Transportation is recommending no travel.  Therefore, doesn't it make sense to stay home?  Now, living in the country, we are forced to stay home, as we  don't see snow plows until the day after the storm.  Seems as though teens that live in town are all over the place, and I'm sure the roads aren't safe there either.  I'm just wondering if I'm being old fashioned and common sense has been tossed out the window in 2010? Hopefully, we are done with snow days for a while!  My 9th graders needs a regular routine, as I'm sure many teens do!  After All, It's All In a Mom' Day, Right?

Can I move that way?

OK~ Just returned home from a physical therapy appointment.  If you've been to a physical therapist, you probably know how I feel!  I've decided that neurosurgeons and physical therapists are people that I am thankful for, but in the back of my mind.....I'm thinking I wish I did not have to meet all of them at the age of 40- I am now 43 and back at the physical therapist.  I knew that I must have been too much of a regular for 8 months in 2006-2007 when the receptionist did not have to ask me my name and the therapists offered me my "old" space, 2 1/2 years later!  The session itself was OK~ interesting thoughts, "Is my leg supposed to move that way?  Mine does not!"  After the session, I was informed, "You are very weak- nothing new there."  So, I'll work on my homework- get my lower back and leg stronger..........and maybe Monday, when I return, I'll be ready to move "that" way!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Book Giveaway~The Mom I Want To Be, By T. Suzanne Eller

OK~ I was so blessed to win this autographed book through a contest on Momlogic.  The Mom I Want to Be, by T. Suzanne Eller.  I enjoyed every page of this book and know that every Mom would benefit from reading what Suzanne has to share.  Suzanne is not shy about recapping her years as a child.  Her family was not the perfect family on the block, as most of ours are not.  What she really focuses on, is how to overcome the pattern that quite often develops within families.

At the end of each chapter is a small section to answer a few questions.  In return, you, the reader, really get to dig deep and find out if you really are being the Mom that you want to be.  There are some tough questions- and remember, there are no right or wrong answers.  It all depends on how honest you want to be, in regards to who you are.  On page 146 she asks:  Are you ready to let go of your bad family memories? What will you gain by focusing on the present rather than the past?  If this book doesn't make you think, you might want to close the book and open it up again..........

God has given each of us special talents and gifts.  When we take the time to let go of some of the "hurts" in the past and focus on the future, we can be the Moms that we so desire to be.  Suzanne has willingly offered to give one of you lucky readers an autographed book of, The Mom I Want to Be.

Walt Disney World when you need a little assistance!

OK~ Some of you know of my physical limitations and some of you don't!  Oh, how I wish I had none.  But, I have done my best to pull up my boot straps and move on with my life.  We have visited Disney twice since my back surgery.  I was left with a right foot drop and distance walking is something that I really, really struggle with.  A new experience for the whole family, that is for sure.  This pic was taken in March of 2007.

I realize that many of my friends in the world of social networking will be embarking upon Walt Disney World next week.  Therefore, I feel it is my responsibility to plant a little seed when it comes to getting around "The World."  Moving around Walt Disney World with a person with disabilities is quite time consuming.  People look at someone like me and think, "What can possibly be wrong with her?"  She doesn't weigh 300 lbs and she bathes, therefore; most people assume- she should not be in that wheelchair.

We opted to stay at the Polynesian Resort, as we knew the accessibility to the attractions would be the best. Day # 1 we headed on down to board the monorail- I walked with my cane and by the time we got to the monorail, I was one tired woman, with a leg that had already swollen to the size of a balloon. Mind you, this is at 7:30 a.m.  Some may ask, "Why even try a vacation like this?"  Well, this was something that we had done as a family for the past 10 years and I wanted our lives to be as normal as possible.  Having a Mom with some disabilities should not put the family life on hold!

The monorail train approached the station.  We waited in line, with everyone else.  What I did not realize was how rude people were going to be.  I was walking with my cane -my pace- and was literally trampled.  By the time the monorail doors closed, I was on a heap on the floor in the boarding area- my boys were standing above me and my husband was reaching down for my hand.  The  monorail went on it's merry way.  My husband took me to the side and I cried, "I can't believe how rude people are.  I would never, never push someone over that was walking with a cane. We should have never came here."  My three boys calmed me down and we boarded the next train- different cars- as we all knew where to get off- Magic Kingdom.

When we got to the Magic Kingdom we rented a wheelchair- and the day got a little better.  I still reflect on that day and think, "Why are people so rude?"  My boys have a newfound respect for people that walk a little different, maybe walk with a cane, or even talk a little different.

So, if you are heading to Walt Disney World this month, take some time to help out a family with someone in a wheelchair or using a cane.  You can make a difference!  I know how it feels to be trampled by a bunch of crazy people trying to get to the most magical place on earth,  it's not a good feeling at all.  Our family still loves Disney, went back again in 2009, not quite as bad of an experience, but some not so pleasant situations.  When you are a Mom of very active teenagers, you do the best that you can. and try to keep life as normal as possible!   After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Boys & Paper~Mom's Doing a Happy Dance!

Look at all of this STUFF!

OK~This Mom is now doing a "Happy Dance!"  Garrett is in 9th grade and has NEVER been concerned about the amount of "junk" he carries around in his backpack.  I was totally stunned at 7:05 a.m. this morning. Considering the bus arrived in 5 minutes, he had to move quickly. He had his backpack on the floor and papers were being tossed onto the table left and right.  I said to him, "What are you doing?" "Oh Mom, I've got to get rid of these old papers from last semerster!"  I thought to myself, "Did I hear that correctly?"  YES- there is hope!  My 14 year old will not live in a pig pen forever!  Now, if I can only get him to see that he needs to shovel his room out....ummmmmmmm..After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Happy 19th Birthday, Blaine!

OK~It just seems like yesterday I was standing in a grocery store and an aquaintance said to me, "Sara, When are you gonna have that baby?"  I looked down and said, "I had him Saturday (it was Monday)."  I can recall that day just like it was yesterday.......In 19 years we have experienced a lot~ Here it goes~Things we have experienced with this young man!

  • I remember the day we purchased a toy vacuum in KMart - Grandma was with- I was at the checkout and he threw himself down into one his tantrums (banging head on floor)- Grandma literally opened the toy vacuum, and he pushed the toy out of the store.
  • I remember the day we were thrown out of Sears- I've blogged about that as well- The vacuum lady saleswoman did not like us!
  • I recall how he would stand on a table in a restaurant and point at the ceiling fan.
  • Vacuums and ceiling fans consumed a lot of his earlier years!
  • I can recall how he went out to the barn- no lights- and it was dark outside.  He was petting all the cats at the cat food bowl-NOT he was petting an opossum..
  • I remember the day he got behind the wheel of a car- scares me to this day!
  • I know that cell phone jingle ANYWHERE!!!
  • High School Graduation Day~ A proud moment!
These 19 years have went by VERY fast!  Here's to hoping you have a great birthday and enjoy everything that life has to offer you.  The world is BIG- take it all in!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Going out to eat with the family should be OK, right? WRONG!

OK~  We headed out to our local Pizza Hut this past week-end.  Garrett wanted spaghetti and the rest of us could have pizza.  The usual, "Booth or table?"  We said, "Booth."  We had no clue that the people sitting behind us had the rudest, grossest mouths we had ever heard.  I'm telling ya, the meals at their home dinner table must be interesting.....Every other word out of their mouths began with the letter "f" or "s."  And they even had kids with them.  This family seemed to deem no wrong in any of the lingo at the dinner table.  Unfortunately, their kids go to school and wonder why they get in trouble for using these obscene words. Well, hello- it's what these kids have learned from Mom & Dad.

My message to parents:  Grow up, your kids are watching you ~ act like an adult!  Wow~ this Mom doesn't get it!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
