Walking Beans

OK~ I wrote a Blog Post about Garrett's clothes turning green while walking beans....The questions arose from several of you, "What is walking beans?"  Well, it involves walking through a field of soybeans, just like this one! And you may ask, "Why?" The reason is pretty simple- remove all and any unwanted weeds...Which means anything that is not a soybean, you pull it! And there are not rows in these fields, as they are drilled in. So, that makes the job all the more fun! But hey, when you are 16 years old, and love the outdoors....A 16 year old has to love it, right?

I grew up walking a lot of bean fields, which evolved into riding a bean bar. A bar placed on the front of the tractor with a chair on it and then we would spray the weeds. The weeds that Garrett has been pulling are resistant to the weed killer that Farmer Uncle Jeff had been using. So, it's back to walking those beans, pulling those weeds, and hiring a 16 year old boy to do the job!  You gotta love Iowa~A little work never hurt anyone......I'm not sure that Garret knew what he was in for when he said, "Yes," but he now knows! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
