Being a Mom is a Grand Experience.....

OK~ You know being a Mom brings with it many ups and downs. But we all know that the ups DO make up for all of the downs. After all, we may not like what our kiddos do, but we always love them! It's all about forgiveness and accepting our kids for who they are. Highlights of being a Mom to teens includes the following:

  • It's kind of like being a teenager again...You stay up late (gotta wait to hear them walk in the door) and rise and shine early (gotta make sure they are up for school)!
  • Experiencing those "firsts" all over again.....That first solo drive- This is really good for everyone, right?
  • Hair color~ Moms to teens get to experience the excitement of the hair coloring experience, right with their teens.....This Mom recalls the night her teen called and said, "Mom, you need to pick me up at the driveway. I'm by the water fountain...BTW- My hair is black!  Yes, he colored his hair in a city park with his friends......He WAS a  blondie when he left the house that day!
If you feel the need to take a photo or two of your experiences.....How about a  Mother's Day Photobook for Mom? Kids grow up fast and it's always nice to have "proof" of some of life's crazy moments! Or better yet, personalize your event~ Personalized Photo gifts  for Mom are always appreciated!

All of the late nights, crazy firsts, and gray hairs are what every Mom secretly desires. Lets face it, if we Moms didn't experience all of these great events, being a Mom would just be kind of boring, right? Being a Mom is a wonderful experience, as there are many ups and downs. From that first smile when they are a few weeks old until that BIG smile when they move out; all of those moments in between are what make up this great journey of Motherhood.

Mother's Day is quickly approaching, and I know that I appreciate my Mom more and more each day. Mother's Day Cards always make Moms Day...Can't go wrong with a great card!  Life goes by fast, as the saying goes, "Don't Blink, or you will miss it!" This Mom is asking herself, "Wow, Why did I blink?" It's all about the circle of life and this Mom is glad she's on board. Being a Mom is exciting, crazy, and one of life's greatest experiences! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Yes......There is Hope!

OK~ I've blogged about all of these heavy loads of laundry in April...I'm seriously ready to move on!  And I do know I would be surrounded by a lot of happy farmers. It is time....time for Mother Nature to show us some love! Warm weather, sunshine & flowers. You know that saying, "April Showers Bring May Flowers?"  Well, does that also imply that "April Snow Brings May Flowers?"  I'm hoping so...just 10 days ago we had a snowstorm! Now, if my tulips would get the nudge to open up and show me their beauty... For now, I"ll keep my gloves in my coat pocket, keep the lining in my coat,  and hood attached~ Let's just say this Iowa Mom would be one happy Mom! And the forecast....it appears that we are in for another windy, cool, wet day of high school trapshooting tomorrow~ Bundle Up! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

My House Feels Lighter....

OK~ I'm thinking back more than 20 + years ago......Our first child, Blaine, was born and the "stuff" began to be carried into the house. The baby swing, toys, crib, and all the stuff that goes along with raising kids!  And just a couple days ago, all of this stuff walked out of this house. Through the years, the toys turned into electronic devices, clothes, books, car keys, and all of the "stuff" that has accumulated over the years. It's a strange thing, as my house seriously feels lighter today! Independence is a good thing....What I want for my boys- to be happy and independent. We will see how all this works- he has moved out and moved on!

Garrett is contemplating how he will make up for the difference. Oh yeah, he has requested a Media Room, Game Room, HIS own extra bedroom....and the list goes on and on. I'm thinking an office for Mom! So....My house feels a little bit lighter and I seriously wonder where the past 20 years went~ After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Dear Mother Nature and More.....

OK~ I'm seriously sitting her wearing a sweater with a long sleeve shirt, jeans and wool socks that I wore over the holidays. Do you see anything wrong with this picture? Well, it's almost May 1st......Geeshe.....

Dear Mother Nature:

Please Give us a Break! The state of Iowa would like to experience some warmth and sunshine. These 40 degree soil temps have got to leave now!

From,
A Mom

Oh yeah, the water in the basement, a teenager with a virus on his cornea, and a 20 year old that is moving today and then in the next breath doesn't know if he's moving.........Yep, it's a great day in this Moms life!  I'm not sure if the pile of boxes will remain in the entryway or if they will march out the door later today. And you know what....I really don't drink~ maybe I should! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Today Was One Of Those Days...........

OK~ Today was one of those days...one of those days that I may look back on someday and think, "Geeshe, that chaos was fun!" Once I rolled out of bed I felt as though my day spiraled out of control. Ever have one of those? Well, it all started at 3:30 a.m.~ woke up with rolling leg/foot pain! It's a horrible pain that literally leaves my right foot/leg in paralysis for a few minutes. In about 15 minutes, it's all good!  I'm just thankful when it snaps out of it.......

Garrett got to school- I should have known there would be problems as he winced his eyes, once his contact lenses were in. Well, after a nice work-out at the YMCA I had a wonderful text, " Bring my glasses." Yep...this is after I'm back home again~ never mind the fact that gas is pushing the $4.00 per gallon mark! I get to school with his glasses and his eyes are swollen and blood shot. He tossed his contact lenses in the garbage can, we came home, and got out a washcloth. Tried trusty old  Benadryl..No such luck!  Called the Eye Dr. , got him in. One of those funky eye infections- back we go in the morning!  Hopefully he will have the OK to go to school.

In the meantime, the dogs are dragging parts of a deer carcass around the yard.........My beloved washing machine is leaking- AGAIN......and my 20 year old is packing, as he's moving out into his own place! So, we wait! Wonder what wonderful things tomorrow will bring? Oh yeah...the crazy weatherman had the audacity to mention that snow word AGAIN....Mind you, it's almost May! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Happy Easter!

OK~ Another Easter come and gone.....The boys are no longer asking for an egg hunt- boy, those days were fun! We had a nice family dinner at a local restaurant with a few family members. Upon returning home Blaine mentioned his co-workers were having a little get together. I told him to go and enjoy himself. I also mentioned if he needed to take a dish to share, he could grab a pan of bars off the counter. Yep, I actually baked! I noticed he left the house, bars on the counter and he was off!

A few hours later......I had been out and about a little while chatting with family~ This is what I come home to.

I seriously opened the freezer door and found this! Well, turns out that little get together that my 20 year old was attending must have been bring your own meat! And there is no longer a pan of bars on the counter! (Saved me a TON of calories)!  I guess it's time for another lesson in Home Economics 101! Happy Easter.............After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The Crazy Laundry

OK~ I'm seriously ready to go on strike!  It is almost May 1st and I am still washing long underwear, winter coats, wool socks, AND sweaters. Mother Nature do you hear this Mom? She is literally dying in her skin...She needs sunshine and warm weather. The ride this week has been unheard of~ Snow, blowing snow, and poor visibility all made Tuesday in Iowa an interesting one for the record books!

Our weather all around the United States has been crazy. Full blown tornadoes in North Carolina, St. Louis, and fires raging all over Texas! But seriously, Mother Nature, can you please give us a break? I will not complain when it gets hot and humid (doubting that will happen) and I promise to hang my clothes outside to dry; after all, that'll be one of my contributions to Earth Day......

My washer and dryer are tired of washing/drying these heavy clothes-this Mom is tired of seeing them go through the laundry pile~ I'm ready to be washing shorts and t-shirts! Oh well...what's a Mom to do? She can't choose her kids' friends and she sure can't make any outdoor plans in Iowa in April.....After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Hold On For The Ride

OK~ Garrett and I are in the car. Garrett is driving. Some of you may know...this youngest child of mine, who is almost 16 does not smile for pictures. And I do have my camera on me a lot~ but I still miss the opportune time to take a pic! The conversation goes like this:

Me:  You seeing everything OK?

Garrett:  This car goes 0-60- How fast?

Me:  We do not care how long it takes this car to get from 0-60!

Garrett:  Smiles...Yes, a smile and I did not have my camera in hand! Mom, you are no fun!

Oh well.........I'm glad he's showing interest in driving. It's just a matter of time before my little guy ( He's about 6'2")  will have a driver's license in hand. First thing..he needs to take a driver's education class - So, this Mom has a little bit of time on her side. There's something about giving the baby in the family the keys....Oh, and that smile! It was a smile that I will always remember! This Mom is sitting back, buckling up and holding on for the ride! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Gummibar~La La Love To Dance CD Review

OK~ I was given the opportunity to review this CD...Gummibar~ La La Love to Dance! My 4 year old nephew loved the music on this! This cute, green, jiggly gummi bear has became a You Tube sensation, as well. I did not check out the You Tube videos....I observed and have listend to the fun my nephew is having with this music CD!

A dancing machine......loving the music! I have to say this CD is a hit with my family! If you'd like to learn more about Gummibar and what's going on....Check out his website! Just in time for Easter.....There is a printable coloring page for you and your kiddos to enjoy! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

News......and more news.......

OK~ Remember the days when the news we received came a couple times a day from a local television station? Or, how about the local AM radio station? Today, I find Facebook and Twitter to be my go to sources for news. I can find out what is happening nationally, regionally, locally, if there are any school delays, any immediate weather issues, and the happenings of family members and friends!  Social Media is seriously changing how we communicate and receive our news.

We are all connected....more so than ever before! I'm thinking back to when we first had internet in our home....it was dial-up, but it was so cool! There were a limited number of websites available, but it was fun to see what was out there. Boy, in about 15 years time, we have come a long ways! Whether you Yahoo, Google or Bing....you even get news on those homepages. News is everywhere! It's still amazing to me that many people have no clue of what is going on in our world and community. Maybe I'm a news junkie...or just like to be informed as to what is going on around me! For now I wait to see what the "news" will flash to me in regards to a snowy day in Iowa!  Yep...it's April 19th and we have snow and winds!  Gotta love Spring time! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

140 Character Conference Coming to Des Moines!

OK~ This Iowa Mom is loving this! On May 9th, in Iowa.....seriously, in Des Moines, Iowa, the first Iowa Character Conference will be held! Social Media is changing our lives on a day to day basis (even in the little state of Iowa)! If you don't understand what 140 Characters are....maybe log onto twitter or better yet...sign up and come out for the day to learn more! The cast of characters is amazing....I am so excited to learn how social media is impacting the lives of others and what new perspectives I can walk away with.

Oh yeah, and did I tell you that I am speaking? Social Media has changed my life and continues to. The relationships and companies I have been introduced to over the past few months continues to excite me. Due to the fact that I love to write, meet new people, and talk~ Ahhhhh...the perfect fit! This Mom is excited to share on May 9th!

For some reason life never goes as planned...This Mom has learned to roll with the punches and anxiously awaits to see what new opportunities are out there each and every single day! So, my fellow Iowans~ Get out and check out this awesome Conference...It's right in our back yard. Social Media continues to impact our lives on a daily basis (Five years ago did we even hear the word Social Media)? Technology is rapidly changing and this Mom is taking it all in.....And if you are not from Iowa~ How about a road trip? We Iowans are great hosts and hostesses~ We'll greet you with a smile and make sure you have a great time! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The Calendar~ I Don't Like It

OK~ Weird weather...or is it just the fact that we are all tired of Winter? Tornados all over the United States, snow/ice in the Mid-West and the calendar says April 16th. We spent the day in the great outdoors at a high school trapshooting meet, right across the Iowa border in Southern Minnesota. The roads between here and there had the word "January" all over them! I don't even want to think of what the wind chill was. A high of a whopping 35 degrees and winds whipping up to 35-40 mph at times...So, what's the deal with Spring?

What would be wrong with Spring arriving in April, not March? And, at least in Iowa, our temps really don't get too hot until July....So, Summer could arrive in July! Oh yeah....and Fall could arrive in October! And Old Man Winter~ I really don't think he should even have a place on the calendar....I'm thinking if he did not even have a slot on the calendar, he wouldn't arrive?!

Is it that I'm getting older and just dislike colder weather, or is it that I just need to accept Mother Nature and roll with her? I guess I'll have to accept the latter of the two....Get used to the cold weather and just maybe warmer weather will arrive soon! I know our farmers sure need some warmer weather...that corn and soybean crop will be mighty important to all of us~ Gotta love an Iowa farmer! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

It Is What It Is

OK~ These words seem to be everywhere I go lately...I look outside, 'It is what it is!" Supper looks a little interesting, "It is what it is!" Garrett comes tromping in the house with mud on his shoes, "It is what it is!" I get an e-mail from a teacher, "It is what it is!" And today at the grocery store a little youngster dropped a jar of pickles, Mom says, "It is what it is!" Oh yeah...this Mom can relate. I've always said I should have stock in the pickle companies! My boys dropped wayyyyyy toooo many jars of them on the floor in the grocery store when they were little...And you know what, 'It is what it is!"  Each day comes and goes, "It is what it is!" After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Teens Vs. Dogs

OK~ I'm seriously thinking my boys and my dogs are clones of each other!  Lets see......

  • Skipper likes to run the other way when called~ Just like my almost 16 year old!
  • Wally eats, eats, eats, as if there is no tomorrow~ AGAIN, just like my almost 16 year old!
  • Both dogs would sleep the day away~ Just like my 20 year old!
  • The dogs don't seem to care what ends up on the carpet~ AGAIN, two boys that really don't care what lands on the carpet! Thank God for a sturdy carpet cleaning machine, with a strong cleaner!
Exercise seems over rated~ as all four of them need to be pushed out the door to exercise~Well...I guess I'll sit back, enjoy the ride......these crazy days will end all too soon and I'll wish them back! Teens Vs. Dogs~ I'll take 'em all! They make my life fun, stressful, and there is NEVER a dull moment.....Always something going on! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Teens and "Unscheduled Time"

OK~ I'm just a Mom making a casual observation. It seems to me that we, as a society, have programmed our kids to be "BUSY" 24/7! So, once a kid/teen has free time...Do they really know how to manage that time? In Pre-School, our kids are enrolled in t-ball, basketball, library programs, Sunday School....and they list continues to grow. Then there is Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, church youth group, band, choir.....and it grows and grows.

Many times during the teen years, teens simply become burned out. Yep, our kids can be programmed to the max! I've noticed through our local newspaper and media that many of our local teens tend to get into trouble when they have unscheduled time. We all make poor decisions in life and we do learn from them, as that is what makes us better people. Just another one of God's little reminders that life is about choices.

What happened to going to a movie during some "down time?" Well, I see the problem in our community as being the cost and the fact that our local movie theater is not open on a daily basis during the day. I know I would like to think that my boys will not be the kids doing "that!" When in all honesty, I realize that they probably will be the ones doing "that!" We as adults have a huge task in front of us. We need to show our teens the productive things they can be doing during that "down" time.

If teens see parents relaxing a little bit and enjoying life~ these habits might just rub off on our teens! Down time...I know this Mom is making a conscientious effort to guide her boys through the "unscheduled"  times in their lives. It's taken this Mom a few years to say the occasional word, "NO!" But, she has gotten much better at it...She picks and chooses what is important to her family. By mixing the things we enjoy in life, with the things our boys enjoy~ life is OK. But, you know what, you give a teen and inch and they will take a MILE!  I've seen this time and time again. Be involved~ know where your kids are ~ know the parents of your kids' friends, and the list goes on and on and on and on......

So, how does your family calendar look? If you can't distinguish today from tomorrow~ ahhhhh....kick back, sigh, and really look at how you can make a difference! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Time For A Drive

OK~ We have an almost 16 year old in the house. He chooses not to drive, opposite of how his older brother was in regards to getting that driver's license. He won't have his driver's license when he turns 16, he has no desire. But, once he hits 17, it's definitely time. And maybe in between he'll decide it's time to take a Driver's Education Class. We tossed him the keys tonight, as he has his Driver's permit. The journey to town was interesting.....What we observed.....People passing at intersections, running through stop signs, pulling out in front of our car AND not stopping at a stop sign, and driver's not using their turn signals. His Dad put it in great perspective, "Garrett, take note, these people are great examples of how NOT to drive!"  Geeeshe....I guess this Mom should know turn signals are over rated, stop signs are for the other guy and passing at an intersection ; in this Mom's opinion is just plain STUPID!  Ok...enough of this Mom's ranting and raving.....Oh yeah. and put the cell phones away! It just amazes me how many people think they can text and drive at the same time~ After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Clyde & Seamore Take Pirate Island~Sea World, Orlando

OK~Sea World, Orlando~ Clyde & Seamore Take Pirate Island~What a fun show.......Some great actors, otters, sea lions and a walrus~ Smiles for the whole family!
You gotta love a sea lion that does what it's supposed to on command~ and sometimes a little mind of their own comes into play!

This guy or gal~was quite the show off~Right on command!

The otters were also some of the craziest things to observe. Just when you thought all was quiet on the set....an otter would take off running across the stage. And the set....Check this out~absolutely stunning!
A must see when visiting Sea World, Orlando, as Clyde & Seamore will make your day! When you arrive at the park, be sure to review the show times of all the shows for the day. There are lots of excellent shows and plan your day accordingly. This Mom highly recommends that you find a comfy seat in this stadium, as your whole family will love this show!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*My family and I did receive complimentary park tickets in March 2011. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's. These photos were taken with my camera.

My Tuesday Observations......

OK~ It's a fairly warm morning in Iowa. I believe it is in the 30's. I gave Garrett a ride to school this morning, as we had gotten home fairly late last evening.  I was given a reality check~ this Mom is NOT hip to the current fashions of high school students!  Fur boots with shorts~ Short, shorts I must add, looked to be the apparel of many young ladies. Most young men looked very much like my son, jeans and a sweatshirt. Although, I did see one pair of "low, low, low" riders on one young man.

I dropped him off~ took a glance at myself and thought, "Wow, where did those 26 years go?" Did I dress that obnoxious when I was in high school? I know the times have changed and my parents probably thought the same thing, "You are wearing that?"  Just another day in the life of an Iowa Mom....Clueless to the fashion world, in regards to high school students! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Revenge Of The Mummy~Universal Studios, Orlando

OK~ The Revenge of the Mummy was a really fun experience at Universal Studios, Orlando!  This is considered a family attraction and I would classify it as one, as well. You must be 48" tall to ride. Most of this ride is in the dark and it lasts around a whopping three minutes! Hold onto your seats and your "stuff." This Mom contemplated what to do with her sunglasses. She thought to herself, "Tuck 'em away!" But, oh no, she watched a rider board ahead of her and saw him hang them on his shirt, near his neck. This Mom did the same thing~ end of ride~ NO SUNGLASSES!  Well, it was time for those sunglasses to go anyway, as she thinks she's had them for 4-5 years and they are in several photos! The signs are real that say to "Secure all losse articles!" This Mom is living proof!

If you enjoy The Mummy movies, you will love this ride! Even if you just love a fun, family thrill ride~The Revenge Of The Mummy is for you! The twists, turns will thrill you! If you have a youngster tall enough to ride, beware~ this ride is very dark! It's probably best for teens~ my family loved this ride!

Lunch time....Just a little ways down the street from Revenge of The Mummy was a hot dog stand! As usual, it's always good to eat a little early while visiting a theme park! Check out the line.....This was around 10:45 a.m.

So many fun things to see at Universal Studios, Orando~ I can't wait to share more of our experiences with you! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*Our family did receive two 2-day park to park passes. We also received a goodie bag with Universal Studios items. Photos are mine and Universal Studios Media. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post.

Books....Those Crazy Book Orders

OK~ We dug through a closet in Garrett's room last evening. We found book after book after book....and the list goes on and on. Remember those crazy "Book Fairs" that your child's school hosts? Well, this Mom was suckered into purchasing more than a few books at these "fun" events! I always told myself the profit went to a good cause, my child's school. Several of these books were in terrific shape, a few were tattered and torn....This Mom could not say, "NO!" How can a Mom say no when a child wants a book? It seemed more appealing than the battle at the checkout stands at the department store- you know? The chocolate, candy bars, and trinkets....I could easily tell my child, NO!" But, when it came to a book, I said, "YES!" So, do you fall for those book fairs like this Mom did? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Bring Your Own Bags, BUT.........

OK~ I head out to the store and 9 times out of 10, I do remember to bring my own shopping bags. Just today I carried my bags with me into the store and hit the checkout with a cart load of groceries. Why is it that stores really encourage us to do this, when their employees give you "the look?" It's quite obvious that most employees at these stores just cringe when they see Moms like me approaching the register with six/seven bags in tow. It is true- the bagging area is not very user friendly for those employees. Maybe it's time that these store looked at how they could make some improvements to these bagging areas.

Oh yeah...and they advertise~ a 5 cent per bag credit! Well, I did not receive my credit (as usual). I look at is my small contribution to helping make our world a little cleaner place! That nickel could really add up over the course of a year, but until stores are really ready to accept Moms like me~ it's going to be a little rocky! I'll keep dragging my bags to the store and just one time, I know it's coming, I'll meet a really friendly person working at the check-out stand and appreciate the fact that I brought my own bags. Just my ramblings for the day. Garrett usually comments, "Mom, they really don't care if you have your own bags!" From the look I got from the employee today, I am sad to say that I agree with his statement...So, are you making the time to drag your own bags to the store? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
