Gotta Love Those Tall Northern Pine Trees

OK~ So I'm sitting at a table, laptop in tow...I place my elbow on the table- yep, Mama always said to keep those elbows off of the table! Much to my surprise, my elbow stuck to the table. At that point I touched my chin! I then realized that I needed to find a hot shower to get this sticky pine mess off of me.

I head to the shower....Well, I was focused on switching up the shower doors so they were usable and in the meantime, I got beat up by a white shower pole. I am told that this white pole was hanging across the shower, but I failed to see it. In the midst of this confusion, I found my chin stuck to my chest! I kid you not, this pine sap was awful! Now that I have replayed the scenario several times in my head, I get why the white shower pole is in the shower- it makes a great place to dry a towel or two!

Shower door was now working and for the life of me, I could not get any hot water. For the record: Pine sap is extremely difficult to remove with cold water! After a few minutes, I finally asked for a demonstration on how to find the hot water. Well, had I known that the hot water is in the opposite direction of the red color on the knob, I might have had hot water.

Once the hot water was rolling, and the pine sap was no longer keeping my head in an interesting position~ life is good! I have found a new blogging spot...On the deck, overlooking the lake (around the corner from the shady tables with the sticky pine trees) with several Minnesota loons passing by. I am surrounded by lots and lots of tall Minnesota Northern Pine trees~ BUT this Mom now knows how to correct the situation! .Life is Good........After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Three Things That I Learned TODAY

OK~ Today was a crazy, crazy day........I learned three important things today:

1-  NEVER, NEVER rely on your significant other to get your important stuff from Point A to Point B.
After 24 years of marriage, one would have thought I would have learned that a long time ago!

2-  My father-in-law does NOT like Bar-B-Q potato chips!

3-  The roads in Minnesota....and way up here in Northern Minnesota are very, very bumpy!

A fun time to be had by all this week...Hey, I will be happy if I catch A fish! Woo Hoo~ After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Dear Wally.....

Dear Wally:
You have had us worried. Moping around, just not yourself. Then yesterday you started wheezing and we started to think that the end of your crazy life is coming!

Well, about a month ago, you came up to the house with a black tongue and kind of moving your mouth funny. I seriously thought that one of the three boys in this house had analyzed your mouth...But NO....Now, a month later they do~ and Voila'- You had a rib bone lodged across the roof of your mouth! Wow...I'm amazed that you could eat like you did and managed to function as well as you did!

Well, until your next shenanigan, which will probably be brining the carcass of that raccoon that you buried in the field about a month ago~ seems to be about the day that you started having these mouth issues!  But the corn is many feet taller than it was then~Gotta love a dog in the country- AND Mr. Skunk, you can also stay away! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Back To School and Activities.....

OK~ I'm hearing and seeing lots of chatter about the upcoming decisions that parents are going to have to make. With a new school year quickly approaching, there are going to be families faced with many decisions. So, what should a parent do when their child wants to be in every single extra curricular activity tossed their child's way? My opinion, kids need to make choices. Life is all about choices- sometimes they are the right choices and often times we learn from these choices.

I do think it is good for kids to have a sense of belonging to a group outside of the school setting, and it's a great experience for the whole family when kids are allowed to show their passion for something. From sports, to music, to church activities...there are an array of activities for our young people today. But, it's ultimately up to the parents to set limits. From the family finances, to the fund-raising efforts, to the time involved as a family~ it's important to get a grasp of the whole picture before kids set off to sign on the dotted line for an extra curricular activity. We live and learn, as that is what makes our world go round. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Reality Hits...Again- BUT, The Blessings Rule

OK~ Do you find that God finds interesting times in your life to throw a reality check at you? Well, he did it again to this Mom. For the past four or five years I've been cruising through the obituary section of the newspapers..which of course I said a few years back, "I will never be like my Mom and do that!" As time goes on, YES, we must realize, we do become our parents- like it or not!

This morning I saw the obituary of a 40 year old woman, who graduated from the same high school as I did, four years later........The questions begin, Why so young? Why did God take such a beautiful person from this earth?

And then God blesses our families with new life. Ahhhh...How sweet it was to attend the 2nd birthday party of our youngest niece this past week-end. Looking back.....We had the summer of nieces.....One niece graduated from high school, two nieces got married and two nieces had birthdays this summer~Wow~ Gotta love the blessings in life!

Well, it's all part of that circle of life. I am constantly reminded of how important it is to live each moment, each day, just as though it is your last! You know, none of us knows when the Good Lord is going to call each of us home. There's a GRAND plan in the scheme of life, and someday, we will all understand it! Life can get pretty complex, but when we toss it into God's hands....it all doesn't seem so bad. Easier said than done!

So, for now, I'm enjoying life- making the most of each day- and yes, I will still continue to read that crazy obituary section! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

So, What Season Is It?

OK~ I'm cruising through a department store, do we actually call them that? Well, probably not. Anyway, I am observing TONS of Back To School merchandise, which kind of makes sense. After all, school starts here the end of August. More than one month ago the outdoor patio furniture was on clearance and now difficult to come by. Now that we have warm, sunny weather in Iowa, you can't buy the things that you really need! But, if you need a Christmas tree decoration, there are many to be found~ or a  Halloween Costume, you can even find those!

As consumers we need to be a step ahead of the game. Plan ahead, and know that if you need to replace something during the actual season of need~ you will probably need to go online to purchase it, as our local retailers in Iowa are definitely into the Fall season.....Ignore the fact that it's hot outside and if you need to find a swim suit, you are probably out of luck shopping locally! Oh well....you gotta roll with the times! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Summer Is Rockin' Along.......

OK~ Summer is cruising by rather quickly here in Iowa. Once it warmed up, things really heated up fast. I'm thinking that owning a goat would be smart! In all of the heat and humidity, I am simply amazed at how fast the grass and weeds grow in our yard, as well as our garden. It's too bad I can't train one of these guys to mow our yard!

Wally

Skipper

The look as though they have potential, don't ya think?

Summer continues, and these two continue to be their usual rambunctious selves.....You know, these two would probably chase a goat away anyway! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Urban Spoon...Here We Come!

OK~ I was blessed to meet so many awesome women while attending Bloggy Conference in Mason, Ohio. I have had one full week for everything to really sink in! Wow....What an amazing experience! I was so overwhelmed by the generosity of all the attendees and the conference organizers, I'm still reeling it all in.  Oh, and the Great Wolf Lodge, a truly amazing place...Indoor water park~ Speaking of this indoor water park, I personally did not experience it, but my friend Jennie @nuckingfutsmama did~ Check it out!

and this amazing little kids casino looked to mesmerize the parents as well as the kiddos!

The speakers were inspirational, funny, and informative! The sessions that were held, were a great mix, as there was something for everyone. But you know, I came to realize that I need to get out more! Three other conference goers and myself were in a car headed to a restaurant for supper.

Someone mentioned the words Urban Spoon and three of us, yes, three of us in the car said, "Yeah, that sounds good!" Woooahhhh..............What a hoot! The Urban Spoon is an app for your phone. Well, living in rural America, I can say that I do know where the restaurants are and the fact that I'm complaining when there are five people at a four way stop light told me that this type of app would make sense. We drove in lots and lots of traffic...and were surrounded by an array of restaurants within a five block area. I'd guess that in that five block area, there were as many restaurants there that are in my local town.

Hey, I was feeling good~ I was in a city and had tons of choices!
This photo is courtesy of 2sistersandablog

I was so blessed to have connected with so many amazing women at this conference, but I must introduce you to City Chic On a Farm, as she had faith in me, and said, "Yeah, we'd love for you to come speak and share your story at Bloggy Conference!" And one of my roomies...an amazing inspirational woman...Lucinda Cross.....

This woman is a prayer warrior, an encourager, a caring Mom, and most of all she became a wonderful friend during this conference! It's too bad Kings Island missed out on some publicity, but we rolled with it...I think we both agreed, a 24/7 custodian was needed in those bathrooms on the property at Kings Island.

The really, really cool thing about all of this. All because of Social Media and two women who had a dream to have this great gathering of women, Sherry Martz and Tiffany Noth; my life was enriched! It was wonderful to see so many women gathered in an area...laughing, sharing, and realizing, "Hey, you! You look like your Twitter Photo!" How cool is that? I had the time of my life and I am so thankful for the opportunity of a lifetime...So, now...When is Bloggy Conference 2012~ I am SO There! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Summer of Family........

OK~ We've had an awesome summer here in Iowa with family. It all started in May, when my sister and I hosted a Bridal Shower for our niece. The fun continued in May, when another niece graduated from high school! And there's more.....My little nephew turned 5- yep, he turned 5, hard to believe! And then it was on to another high school graduation..this time a nephew in Minnesota. The summer fun continued.....Another Bridal Shower for another niece, with my sister-in law! And finally, we had a wedding on July 2nd! And this coming week-end, we have another wedding.....another niece! Sunday the fun will continue, as another niece turns 2~ it's birthday party time! Wow.........

Our family has been blessed with nieces/nephews of all ages...We have nieces and nephews that range in age from 2-28~ amazing. God has blessed our family in ways we have never imagined. Lots of great family get-togethers and I'm thinking that it's kind of sad that all of the excitement is coming to an end. But,in time, we will have more family get togethers and great memories to be made! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Country Inn Clive~ THANK YOU FOR SPONSORSHIP TO BLOGGY CONFERENCE!

OK~ I am so thankful that I was blessed with a cozy, comfy hotel room before I flew out to Dayton,Ohio, for Bloggy Conference! Having stayed at this hotel a few months before, I was pleasantly surprised to see some of the updates that have been done. My hotel room was home to a beautiful, new, flat screen television and new bed duvet!

The landscaping was also fresh and inviting! I loved the colors and the cleanliness of the surroundings. This front porch area greets you upon entering the hotel...Gotta love the warm welcome of home!

The quietness of this hotel, along with a cozy bed, made crawling out of bed early to catch my flight a little more challenging. I was thankful for a peaceful night of rest!

And check this out.....One of the most beautiful coffee serving areas of any hotel I have ever been in. This is near the grand staircase and is very clean and inviting!

And I must say, the staff at this hotel is top notch! They were friendly upon check-in and extremely helpful during the check-out process. If you are in the Clive, Iowa, area~ this hotel is worth spending a night at. Due to the fact that I had an early morning flight to catch, I was unable to experience the hot breakfast that is served each morning; but I will say at 5:00 a.m., that serving area was coming to life and starting to smell pretty darn good!

I am grateful for the Country Inn & Suites in Clive, Iowa. Thanks to this hotel, I was refreshed, ready to board my plane on time, and ready to present at Bloggy Conference in Ohio. I appreciate their sponsorship....as they helped my dream come true of speaking at Bloggy Conference! Join me and follow @CountryInnClive on Twitter, as well.

*I did receive one night of lodging at this hotel. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's.

Surviving a HOT, Iowa Summer~ (I Think)

OK~ Here in Iowa, we are having a heat wave, unlike one we have experienced in several years. I do recall as a child, there were many hot, hot bean walking days when I was younger.

Thinking of that today....How did people survive when there was no air conditioning to cool off in? The heat seems to be hotter than it was when I was a kid! So, as we age, is the heat harder for our bodies to adjust to it, or is it that we are a "wimpy" society? We do like our comforts! Just thinking, as I sit here with sweat rolling down my face...Geeshe...didn't realize sweat tasted so salty! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

How NOT to fry an Egg....

OK~ We are in a heat wave here in Iowa, and I had this wild idea last night. I thought to myself, "I wonder if it is hot enough to fry an egg on the driveway?" Well, I tried it.

Time to find an egg.....Searched for the perfect one and found it!

Made a mental note to the temp outside...It's only 96 degrees, but it feels well over 110 degrees!

I cracked the egg in the driveway and this is what it looked like when I cracked it open and this is what it looked like after 10 minutes!

Lesson Learned:  I don't think I had the right type of asphalt for frying an egg and it probably wasn't hot enough outside! In this Moms opinion, if the weather man says it feels like 115 degrees outside, this egg should have cooked up! Oh well...Better luck next time~ After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

And So The Garden Grows....

OK~ You know, I'm really not a gardener, but an thankful that my father-in-law, hubby and 16 year old are. Look at these Iowa home grown green beans!

Here's what we had for supper~ These green beans cooked up very nice! I mentioned to Garrett that I was heading out to the garden to pick some green beans. He says, "They aren't ready.Their pods need to fill!" I'm thinking, "What?" Well, it's usually me that needs to hear Gardening: 101, but today I'm finding out otherwise! Seriously..It's July AND a Mouse in the House

OK~ With all of these crazy farm cats that reside here, I am totally stunned that I seriously came home from Bloggy Conference to a mouse in the house. Blaine had reported that he knows there is a mouse living under the dishwasher..Can you say yuck? So, his Dad did the right thing, got out one of those trusty sticky traps and voila~ a MOUSE in the trap!

This is July, I dread to think what is going to appear when October rolls around. In the meantime, this Mom is firing every single farm cat, as they are not doing their job! On the other hand, I was thankful to come home to a clean house! My hubby rocks in the house cleaning department. He challenged our 20 year old, see how tall the stack of dirty plates can get. Well, hubby had to take charge once there was no longer a clean plate in the house. I am glad I was not home to see this stack, as I have a feeling it was not a pretty sight.

Maybe that's why the mouse came in the house...There was a welcoming stack of dirty plates! Oh well........for now we wait to see if this mouse had any partners in crime! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Use YOUR Voice....

OK~ I have had the delight of being at Bloggy Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, the past couple days...What an awesome place to be~Lots of great connections and friendships made. It's really interesting how I have been able to recognize many of my twitter friends. I recognize them through their voice and their picture from Twitter. Yep, that little picture on twitter! The one thing I've really taken away from this conference is the fact that we all have a voice AND it is very important to use YOUR voice! Authenticity is a wonderful thing. I'm loving this adventure~After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Ahhh....Gotta Love a Caterpillar....

OK~ I come home today and see this jar on the table....

I'm thinking...I haven't seen one of those in years...There are holes on the top...sticks,grass and the like inside.  And then I look inside...

This little guy has a new home...Blaine informed me that he had found him. This brought back memories of the hours that I read, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" with my two boys. I thought it was kind of cool that my 20 year old would do this! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

More Social Media..Yep~ I'm In!

OK~ A few weeks ago I first saw the words Google+ and thought, "Uggghhhhh" another social media site. Well, I have taken the plunge and I like it! I'm not sure if it's because it IS new, it LOOKS clean, or the fact that I don't have many circles of friends......I know that will come, after all, I've been on for 1 1/2 hours and I've got 14 people in "a" circle.

What looks appealing to me is the fact that you can message your "circles" of friends. So, if you've got a family event coming up, just message the family circle group~ sounds pretty simple, right? And due to the fact that I stared at the page for one hour before I said anything, that tells me that I do NOT know much about this Google+!

As with anything else, I'll dig my feet in and run with it! I love Social Media and this just gives me another social avenue in my life! As we all know, Social Media, is continually evolving ~ which makes it even more exciting~And as we all know, this Mom loves the social part of it!

More fun.....After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Summer is Flying Here..........

Gotta love the lake on a hot summer day.......

And we spent sometime on the lake during the night......

And, of course we had to take in a sporting clay shoot.....I don't think this 16 year old of mine should have A single complaint about this past week.......

Oh, wait....He's a 16 year old male with that "y" chromosome...he's gonna find something to complain about....After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Wally, Where Are You??????

OK~ Wally is now approximately 8 years old....and plays like a puppy~

He's a dog with a big heart and a lot of fun.....I spent more than 15 minutes trying to find him outside today..Only to come in the house and have Garrett say, "Mom, he's in the house!" Geeshe.....What can I say? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The Things A Mom Does.....

OK~ This Mom has crawled through caves, spent many nights camping in tents, became a certified bb gun instructor for the Boy Scouts of America.....I can honestly say I NEVER EVER envisioned myself firing a field gun on a sporting clay shooting range. Being a Mom to two boys, I've found myself in unique shoes..I've been told my form was "good." Our summer season is short in Iowa and I've always pressed on to be involved and learn about what my boys enjoy~ I guess I'm still learning!

Well, on my first outing I went 0 for 3! There is plenty of room for improvement~These boys might make a trapshooter out of me yet! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Boating Safety Tips........

OK~ We hit the lake today and let me tell ya, you need eyes in the back of your head while maneuvering a boat on a busy holiday week-end on any area lake. Maybe it is my age and I see the "carelessness" of others, or I am just a little more cautious. Seriously, don't drink and drive a boat! Make sure you have all of the necessary life jackets that are necessary. It's probably a good idea to keep a couple extras on board,

I love the lake.........The sun was absolutely gorgeous...Oh how I miss the warm sunshine and the joy of being on a lake when January rolls around in Iowa! I'm going to get out, enjoy the lake, and take in summertime! And one other note, respect the other boaters around you. Common sense comes into play when it comes to jet skis. When riding a jet ski- respect the fishermen around you~ seriously, head out to another area of the lake! Think about how you would like it if YOU were fishing and a jet skiier kept circling your boat! Oh well, I'm just a Mom babbling.......I did have a wonderful day on the lake and hope to enjoy many more over the course of the summer. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Swimming Pools And Kids...

OK~ I'm probably gonna get blasted by a few of you for writing this post~ but this is hanging over my head and I need to vent. For many years, myself, and my two boys would head to the local swimming pool, which eventually involved into an aquatic center. This is where we spent many, many hours during the summertime for several years while they were growing up. I still ponder as to why so many parents use these types of facilities for babysitters.  Here, kids can be 8 years old~ yep, 8 years old! That age still perplexes me......

I am not a lifeguard, but avid swimmer. Lifeguards do not have the time to babysit all of these youngsters and perform their jobs to be the best of the best! Through the years I continually saw these "stray" kids...dumped off at the local swimming pool, and just eager to have some conversation with a "Mom!" Therefore, hanging out at the pool, with my kids, I met a lot of kids and heard a lot of heartbreaking stories.

Just recently our local swimming pool was closed....due to someone doing their "business" in the pool. And, many of the kids that were "dumped" off had no way to get a ride home. Should it have been up to the lifeguards, pool management, or who to get these kids home? As many of these kiddos would not be picked up until way later in the day......

This is frustrating to see. I just wish that parents would be parents and see that their kids are safe and know what to do if the "what if" happens. In this Mom's opinion, public swimming pools should not be babysitters- parents should be parents. I do understand that parents need to work, but make arrangements with another Mom/Dad that is actually going to the pool with their kids, this way parents will know their kids are with a responsible adult. It's ultimately the parents responsibility to see that their kids will be safe! There are numerous programs available for kids ages 8-12 during the summertime.

The Parks and Recreation is a great place to start, as they are always looking for tweens to help out with activities..But, again it takes a parent to show the child how to register for this, get them signed up, and get them involved, Our youngest son volunteered through our local Parks and Recreation Program during those tween/younger teen years and loved it!

Summertime is a fun time of the year..Make it safe and be a smart parent....Do the best that you can! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Four Things That Everyone Should Experience......

OK~ Just thinking today...lots on my mind!  I'm really thinking these are important for everyone to experience at least once in their lifetime.......

  1. A hot, summer day~ Sunshine and summertime are really therapeutic!
  2. A blizzard in January~ makes you much more appreciative of summertime!
  3. Camping under the stars~ there's just something about being in the great outdoors. Of course, there would be no mosquitoes!
  4. Celebrating a festival...any type~With the 4th of July here..get out and enjoy your family, friends, and be thankful for the freedom's that we have in the good old USA!!!!!!
I'm gonna get out this week-end....take in the sights and sounds! I hope you do too...Check out your local happenings and if you happen to be in the North Iowa area..Clear Lake, Iowa, is truly one of the finest places to be on the 4th of July! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
