Yes, The Washing Machine Does Work

OK~ Garrett gets up today, and gets dressed for school, pretty simple, right?  Well, the conversation went like this.
Garrett- "Mom, where are my clean socks?" (Key word, clean)
Me- "Did you and your Dad do laundry?"
And I received a blank stare.
I do believe a week-end of video games and fast food was enjoyed at my house. As far as the washing machine getting a work-out, it did not happen!

What Really Happens When Mom Walks In The Door From Blissdom

OK~ I have returned from a fabulous week-end of Blissdom in Nashville! I drive in the driveway and pull the car up into the driveway. I step out of the car and the wind literally takes my breath away- Welcome back!  I open the door to the house while loaded down with a suitcase and bag in tow- Can you say mistake? The wind takes the door out of my hands, as my suitcase takes several tumbles down the stairway to the basement, and a gray farm cat decides to follow the suitcase. In the ten minutes I have been home, I have spent five minutes hunting for a gray cat and analyzing the potential breakable items in my suitcase. And yes, the laundry pile is somewhat under control- the dishes are not in the sink....Life is Good! I'm glad to be home, but so happy to have spent time in Nashville. I made lots of new friends, connected with old friends, and was inspired! I have so much to share with all of you, my loyal blog readers. Stay tuned........Blissdom inspired this Mom! I am determined that chaos is what really happens when Mom walks in the door. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The Car Key Saga Continues

OK~ The first text reads, "U home"

The second text reads, "U uptown"

The third text reads, "Can you bring me a Taurus key"

The fourth text reads, "Are you gonna"

I then reply, "I will meet you with a key after school!'

And he wonders why I have persistently insisted that we get extra keys made......GRRRR---- And
no, this Mom is not available 24/7! I do not take my cell phone with me to the restroom, the
YMCA, or outside while gardening, etc.............Do your kids expect you to be available 24/7, like
         my kids do?

But, when you are 16 years old- What does Mom know?????????????

Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort: Port Canaveral, Florida

OK~ Another glimpse into what's in store for the Iowa to Florida family road trip! Sun, Sand, Beaches, and everything that Iowa does not have in March, are what await us! So.....I must say I was more than elated when Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort partnered up with me! With this resort being Orlando's closest oceanfront Resort, this is definitely a win-win!

Yeah, this lazy river looks to be where you find this Mom! A beach, pool, hot-tub, waterslide, lazy river, "just for tots pool," Children's play area, Miniature Golf Course, and the list just goes on and on......This resort is simply a vacation destination in itself! I cannot wait to share my own personal experience with all of you in March of 2012!

This resort happens to be near Port Canaveral, which is home to many cruise lines. The cool thing about this resort- If you are a cruising family and stay at this resort before or after your cruise; you can park (while cruising) on their property for no charge. Now, depending on the length of your cruise, this in itself, can add up to substantial savings.

Now this tram is also intriguing me.......This resort is so big- offering TONS of amenities...so many, that tram service is offered from 8:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m.

Stay tuned.....The family road trip from Iowa to Florida just got a little more interesting! The Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort is gonna be one fun place to stay......After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*My family and I will be guests on this property in March of 2012.  The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's. The photos in this post are owned by the Ron Jon Resort Cape Caribe.

The $2.35 School Lunch Days are History

OK~ I do believe that this is official. I knew this day would arrive- my 16 year old son no longer finds it acceptable to eat hot lunch in the high school cafeteria. You know, I did wonder when this day would arrive. He has had open campus this whole school year, and has now discovered that it is GRAND to eat off campus!

So, I was just informed that $5.00 is NOT enough for lunch!  Well, this Mom thinks it is. I see a little budgeting coming into play- He will have $50.00 for the week- Lunch, Activities and Gas. So, he will have to figure out how to make that $50.00 work! Sounds realistic to this Mom- Your thoughts?

And it's only been due to the construction in the cafeteria that we have been getting by on the $2.35 for the hot lunch at school. When the construction has ended, the extras will be able to be added on. Which, came to around $4.00 last year. So, I do think this little budget we now have in play for his hot lunch, activities, and gas will be a realistic one.... After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Mr. Einstein Is In The House

OK~ We are on the hunt for that one little book. You know, that one book that goes with that one laptop? I made the statement,"So, that is how that works!" Garrett says to me, "Mom, You are an Einstein!" I replied, "Yes, I finally know something!"

I got the eye roll- "Mom, I was not serious!" Well, this Mom took it as a compliment-We have an Einstein in the house and I am one proud woman!  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

YES- You Need To Be Home By 10:30 P.M.

OK~ With a new 16 1/2 year old driver in the house, let's just say, this Mom is frazzled! I know that I need to put my faith in him- that he will make the right choices, follow the road signs, and make it home in time...........

So- The clock has been tested! He heads uptown to meet a friend for supper and go bowling. OK, I can buy that (literally, it cost me $15.00)!  Thankfully his part time job starts in a little more than a month.

Bowling begins at 8:00 P.M.- The clock is ticking...... Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock!

The clock says 10:29 P.M.- No car....Ahhhhhh....But, at 10:30 P.M.- The care has arrived!  Yes, he can do it! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Valentine's Day 2012

OK~ Valentine's Day has come and almost gone.......Really, it was just an ordinary day in this house. I did have cards for my boys and hubby. And I can honestly say that I do NOT miss the crazy days of the classroom Valentine's parties. I always worried if we had forgotten someone or not put enough cards in the bag. And of course- we always questioned the candy we put with each Valentine.

Would the recipients of these Valentines like the candy we had bought? Would we put a piece of candy with each Valentine, or forget one? Would the recipient care that the Valentine card had the word "kiss" on it? You know, when we purchased Valentine's in bulk, we got a mish mash of cards.

Maybe someday I will look back and say, "Geeze, I miss that day!" But you know what- I don't think it 's gonna happen in regards to those Valentine's parties. Today was simple and not very chaotic! So, life doesn't get much better than that. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Shoplet.com Product Review: Avery Three Ringed Binder, Custom Spine Inserts & Note Tabs

OK~ As someone who is a visual person, it’s always nice to have a paper in front of me. I also appreciate it when I can have any necessary papers organized in one place. Hence, the Avery EZDHeavy Duty Reference View Binder to the rescue. Office supplies at your fingertips!

A White, 1.5 inch three ring binder, with a cover as unique as you are. One simple touch and the rings are apart, ready for your paper. I usually prefer a more flexible binder, but for projects that require a sturdy home, this is definitely the better option.

The Avery Custom Binder Spine Inserts feature a clear, plastic cover for the binder, so you can have your own unique title page. And of course, these Avery Custom Binder Spine Inserts will work with your printer- giving you a guaranteed clean label on the spine of your Avery Binder.

Each sheet offers five spine inserts, five sheets per pack= 25 Spine Inserts. Avery.com/software offers templates, as well as the 1-800-GO-AVERY number for Avery, should you need it. Binder labels that really seem to be the answer to a lot of things. These inserts are sturdy, as they are not flimsy, giving you the coverage you need. Now, if your printer is running low on ink, you may even opt to just write on the Spine Insert, an option that is available.

The Avery Note Tabs are the perfect solution when it comes to labeling areas within the Avery Heavy Duty Ring Reference Binder. Let's face it, every binder needs a binder tab or two!

Just stick the piece of paper where you need it, and you are good to go. Easy to use, but simple for you to find what you need. Use these where ever you need them. I can see the possibilities for these are truly endless. But they are the ultimate solution when it comes to labeling things that you don’t want to permanently damage. Just stick it on, read it, even use them for turning pages. I honestly could not find a single pit fall in using these......As always, do a little “test” area before you stick it, but all in all- I wish these would have been around when I was a college student.

Lots of unique office supplies at your fingertips. Shoplet.com knows how to meet your unique needs. Your passions...Why They Matter

Ok~ Today I was reminded of how passionate we are as people, and why we need to be passionate about things that matter to us. Cancer is the one thing that I hate, yet I am so thankful that so many people are fighting the good fight! Lots of good people are participating in fundraisers and doing what they need to do to beat cancer!

And then there are people passionately fighting to change our education system, which I must state is desperately needed. Passion will change how our kids learn over the course of the next few years. I know this Mom is passionate when it comes to her kids and their education.

The passion for music is shown through the talent of local high school kids as they perform in The Mohawk Follies; which just happens to be the longest high school variety show in the United States. Again, passion rules!

So, what is your passion? Go ahead, bring your passions to life-You may find yourself changing the lives of those around you, in a very positive way. Go for it- Indulge in your passion! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Texting and Driving~When Will We Wake Up?

OK~ I continue to wonder when we, as a society, will put our cell phones away while driving? Here in North Iowa, we all learned today that a teen died as the result of texting, on November 1, 2011. In our state, it has been law for more than a year for everyone to not text while driving, yet people continue to do it. I guess it's one of those things that can be compared to being told, "No." When we are told "no," the natural instinct is to rebel. I know deaths by texting are happening nationwide, it's not just here in Iowa- but seriously, when will people learn?

For myself, turning my phone off while in the car is the solution. There is no temptation to see who is calling or texting. Life seemed a lot simpler when we did not have cell phones. We actually dialed our telephones, and we could talk in another room in the house while connected with a 15' cord!

What will you do to stop yourself from resisting the temptation to text while driving? Will you turn your phone off while driving? How will you make our roadways a little safer for yourself and those around you? For now....I'm thankful that my new 16 1/2 year old driver in this household has never known the days of talking and/or texting on a cell phone while driving. And I pray.....pray every time he gets behind the wheel- After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Am I Responsible, Or Is He?

OK~  So.......Once your kid reaches the ripe old age of 16 1/2- is it Moms responsibility or  his responsibility to make sure what he wants to wear to school the next day is clean? The scenario:

Garrett: "Mom, Where's my gray sweatshirt?"
Me: "You wore that yesterday;"
Garrett: "I know. Don't you ever clean anything around this house?"
Ummmmm- I'm now contemplating going on a permanent strike!

Me: "What is wrong with your Patriots sweatshirt?  (As in Super Bowl Losers)
Garrett:  "I'm not wearing that to school for a long time!"

Well....I guess I should have known better- After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Girlfriends and Friendships= Lifelong Experiences

OK~ Hospice is a wonderful place, but it sure makes me appreciate my life and everything that awaits each of us, upon our departure from this planet. My really, really, good friend's Mother-in-law is currently resting comfortably at Hospice. Geeshhhe....Alzheimer's is a horrible disease, and it's sad to see how this disease seems to rob families of the "wonder" years.

My girlfriend and I are sitting in the room with her, casually conversing. We talked a little bit about the people that had came to see her in the past few days of her life. And we begin to discuss what could be holding her back. Many times people seem to wait to enter those pearly gates until they have taken care of that "one" thing. I looked over at my girlfriend, her eyes got really big, and she said, "Oh My, We've got to find her!"

Here we are- two really, really good friends conversing about life (and death), and the conversation turns to recalling the name of my girlfriend's Mother-in-law's best friend. Once we have determined her name, my girlfriend was on the phone. What a blessing! This woman was so thankful that we had thought of her, called her, and reached out. Now I know that my girlfriend's Mother-in-law did not speak, but I do know she heard every word her best friend said to her.

So......here we are. Two forty something Mom's- talking about life, death, and our own mortality. I said, "Let's hope we aren't in those shoes for several more years!" We laughed, hugged, shed a few tears and realized how blessed we are to know each other. I truly hope through the conversation of two really, really good 70+ year old girlfriend's- a good-bye was a blessing tonight. Two forty something girlfriend's finding peace for two seventy something girlfriends- How cool is that? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Independence Has Arrived

OK~ Independent children is what all Moms strive for, but it seems so strange that both of my boys are driving! I know I've anxiously awaited this day, but geeshe.....what a way to grow a few more gray hairs! For the past twenty one years, I have been responsible for transporting one, or two of them around.

Now, that Garrett has his driver's license, he can hop in the car and be Mr. Independent! And I look out the window as car #2 leaves for the day and have to seriously think to myself, "How did we get here so soon?" Now I know when he was younger, I was complaining about the toilet paper roll road. This "white" road went from the Northwest corner of the main floor of the house to the Southeast corner of the basement of the house. For some reason I'm thinking I should not have been so worried about that "white" road! Although I am regretting not purchasing stock in that "white" road company.

Now I have to worry about real cars, icy Iowa roadways, and all of the other things that go with driving! I'm thinking I'd like to go back to the days of the toilet paper roads, can I? Life seemed so difficult at the time, but in reality, it was so much simpler! So.....I sit, I pray, embrace the word independence, and have faith that both of my boys will arrive safely from Point A to Point B. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

One of the places that we will be guests at while traveling, is the Wright By The Sea Hotel  in Delray Beach, Florida. Each unit has a minimum of a partial ocean view, can't beat that! The room choices here consist of twenty-nine apartments with full kitchens and an ocean view. Studio, One Bedroom or Two Bedroom Configurations are available for you to choose from.

Check out this casual, fun dining/living area. Complimentary WiFi Internet, Coffe, and Newspapers also await guests. The beach theme continues throughout the whole property, as a hotel near the ocean should have, right?

What's For Supper?

OK~ As the house is filling with smoke, I'm hearing, "What is for supper?  And, Where is all that smoke coming from?"  Well, as my eyes are beginning to burn, the smoke detector is blaring, and it is at this point that I know that supper is more than likely going to be another fail!

Windows open (Thank God it's above freezing outside) and the doors are even open! The smoke continues to penetrate the house and now everyone's eyes. I had this wild idea to try a new potato recipe, which called for olive oil on the bottom of the pan. Well, let's just say- next time- this Mom is just reaching for the non stick cooking spray. A 450 degree oven and olive oil does not work well together for this kitchen challenged Mom. Amazingly the potatoes turned out good, and I will make 'em again!

The smoke detector has silenced, the smoke has for the most part moved on out the door, and supper was somewhat of a success. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The Technology Keeps Changing

OK~ It's interesting how technology continues to evolve. I find myself in a crazy, mumble, jumbled mess at times. There is the tablet, and yep, I have one of those. And then there is my Nook- I had this before my tablet, so I'm still using my Nook to read my books. And those paperbacks? I'm so glad I no longer have a stack of those near my bed, as they are in one concise home, my Nook!

And then there is my cell phone. Mine is not a "true" smart phone, as it's one of those that is almost two years old AND is an introduction to a Smart Phone. It's quirky to use, and kind of challenging, as well. But, in a pinch, I can make it work! And there are no more dangling cord in our home- Remember those long, corded phones?

And then there is my laptop. I do still use it. It just "feels" right for certain things. Does that make sense? All of this technology continues to evolve- and this is just a little touch of what all is out there. What's your go-to gadget?

I'm trying to keep up with all of it, but find things moving very fast! All of this technology is providing new opportunities, new adventures, and even new experiences. Hey, if this Mom can roll with all of this technology, trust me, you can too! I am told several times a day that I am the tech challenged person in this house.......After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?

21 Years- Ever Wonder Where 21 Years Could Go?

OK~ We officially have a 21 year old son today on February 2,  2012! 1991 seems so long ago, yet like it was yesterday....So- Here's where those 21 years went-----

  • Spent many hours/days on a local sledding hill
  • Spent many hours/days pushing a bicycle with a little boy on it, until he could ride on his own
  • Spent many hours/days watching "Batman" fly around our house
  • Spent many hours/days at the local swimming pool during the summer months
  • Spent many hours/days pushing a little boy on a swing, until he could swing on his own
  • Spent many hours/days riding as a passenger before he received his driver's license at the age of 16
  • Spent many hours/days making sure his school planner was signed and homework completed
  • Spent many hours/days wondering when he would come home for the night

Uggghhhhhh...The joys of being a Mom! Once a Mom, always a Mom. And NO- I do not wish to trade these 21 years for anything else! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
