A Re-Cap of Our Highways and By-Ways

OK~ Having returned from an Iowa to Florida road trip, I must tell you- our highways have a lot of junk on them!  With one destination in mind, Florida, this family did not stop for anything other than an occasional meal, some shut-eye and a few gas stops. Here is my list of rather interesting items we dodged on the highways....

I-65 near Birmingham, Alabama


  • Beach Towels
  • Tires and shredded tires (lots of them)
  • Sunglasses
  • Shirts
  • Bungee Cords
  • Chairs
  • Plastic bags (several of them)
The scary thing about those plastic bags, is the fact that you never know what is in them until you hit them. There could be nails, food, water bottles, and a whole other host of other items. And all of these tires- I'm curious, does anybody know who is responsible for picking those up?

  1. We have crews that go around and clean our highways. Texas also has a huge "don't mess with Texas" campaign, and if you are caught littering, you could be fined. We still need to work on some of the roads, but they are better than others - in my opinion.
