Learning To Embrace New Experiences

OK~ As a Mom to two boys, I've done a lot of things I never imagined I would do. I have never been a fan of guns, but I have learned to embrace them.

It was during our years of Cub Scouting that I was introduced to bb guns. Out of desperation for trained bb gun instructors, while attending Cub Scout Camp; I found myself in a training session for being a trained bb gun instructor for the Boy Scouts of America. And low and behold, for the next few week-ends I was booked for several day camps in the area. Yep, I was an official bb gun instructor for the Boy Scouts of America- and I had the papers to prove it.

My youngest son had a passion for shooting, and he proudly joined our local high school trapshooting team as a Freshman in high school. He's now a Junior in high school and doing quite well on the high school trapshooting team. Trapshooting has helped him mature into a young adult, as well as offered him opportunities to compete in a sport that he enjoys.

Yes, I have shot his trap gun  a couple times- and I am happy to report that I have hit "A" target.

I had no idea that there were so many different types of guns for shooting sports. I have learned to embrace guns, embrace the opportunity they have offered my son, and I see kids enjoying themselves in high school trapshooting. So....I will continue to embrace the life experiences my "almost" 17 year old son will toss my way and embrace them with open arms! What continues to amaze this Mom is that the "new" experiences that I think I will have, are always something different from what I have dreamed they would be. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

  1. Oh Sara I totally understand! I too have experienced things with my sons that I would have never done otherwise. My biggest things so far is learning Tae Kwon Do with them. It's a great sport, but I bet they will reach black belt status before I do. That works for me, because it's all in my Indiana Mom's day! ;)
