The End Of The Growing Season

OK~ The soybeans and corn fields are disappearing rather quickly for the month of September. I am also sad to report that our abundant patch of tomatoes is also officially done!

The End Of The Tomato Season

We did have a killing frost.....So, we await next season!  The trees are a changing quickly, as the colors of Fall are beginning to set in.

Fall Foliage In Iowa

Fall in Iowa looks to be fairly colorful considering the hot, dry summer we did experience. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Farm Kittens Too Love

OK~ You know I have a 17 year old son that loves to hunt, fish and shoot a lot of clay targets. Here is one thing you may not know about him. He can be very nice to our farm cats. These two have really taken a liking to him.

These two kittens are doing really well. The Mother cat kept them hidden under an old barrel for quite some time. She finally brought them up to the barn to eat with all of our farm cats. So, for now, we hope these two avoid all of the farm equipment that is rolling in and out of our driveway through the harvesting season of 2012. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Why This Mom Resorted To Online Shopping

OK~ Today reminded me why I like to shop online. I do believe in shopping local and supporting a local business. But, when I set foot into a local business I expect service. I should not have to search out someone to help me and answer my questions.

There are times that I just like to browse and I appreciate the acknowledgement from a store employee, and the respect they give me when I say that I want to browse. I understand that we live in a digital world and I "get" social media. What I do not like is when I find an employee to assist me in a local business and they tell me to wait a minute. I find myself waiting because they have to enter their Facebook status on their smart phone. Ummmmm- this Mom left!

I came home and will order what I need online. I do not have the time, energy, or the patience to deal with an employee that could really care less about me, the paying customer. When I shop online I do not have to "hunt" for assistance and I am willing to take the chance that I may accidentally order the wrong item.

I love shopping local and supporting my local community; yet I become extremely frustrated in this era when a smart phone takes precedence over the paying customer. Maybe the store was not very busy. But you know what? I spent many years working in management in the retail sector and when the store was not busy; myself and my employees found something to do. We were cleaning, re-organizing, and keeping ourselves busy. Our employer insisted that we were busy and making every minute count while on the time clock. We, as employees, respected our employer and knew that we earned our paychecks. Maybe this employee today doesn't really need the job and was just killing time.

We do live in a new era. This Mom is not sure she likes all of it. For now, I will order what I need online. I will give this store another chance and hopefully next time someone will embrace me as a customer and not as a fly on the wall. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Door County Wisconsin: Washington Island In The Fall

OK~ Door County is located in Wisconsin and offers more than 300 miles of shoreline along Lake Michigan. Fall is a beautiful time of year to visit. My husband I visited in October and found the foliage to be outstanding and the crowds to be minimal.

We took part of a day and headed over to Washington Island. Washington Island was absolutely beautiful. If you ever get to Door County, take the time to board the ferry and enjoy!

Harvest Is In Full Swing!

OK~ The harvest in Iowa is in full swing! Corn and soybeans are being picked. I can never recall a time when there are so many corn fields that have been harvested by September 20th- wow!

Iowa Soybean Field
There is corn out there. There are soybeans out there. Sadly, there's not a lot of either. But thankfully, here in North Iowa some do have some grain to sell. A trying year for the American Farmer, but you know what? Next year is just around the corner and the American Farmer will march forward to see that you have food to put on your table next year. The Day My Sons Car Conked Out

OK~ Boys and cars, two things that are not mixing well at our house as of late. Yep, this was the sight a few days ago.

Hooking everything up just like the pros do it!

And the view this time was a little different from the last, as this Mom was not behind one of the wheels. I will take this view anyday over the view from the steering wheel.

What a View!

The ride home was jerky, bumpy and fairly safe!

Yep, we made it!

Although I would really like to think that all of this car chaos will end soon. Doesn't seem to be- Just today, Old Blue was towed home from school- the same way this car was! So.....three car incidents since the end of May of this year- This Mom is stressed! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Normal- Is There Such a Thing?

OK~ Define the word normal. My definitions of normal are:

  • Chaos
  • Stressful Situations
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Chasing Dogs Around
  • Young Adult Issues- 21 Year Old Children Make Life Very Interesting
  • 17 Year Old Children Mature Rather Fast
  • Dirty Dishes Piled In The Sink
  • Lack of Sleep
On the flip side- This cat makes life interesting and makes me smile!

My normal is crazy~ How does your normal compare? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Boots Vs. Sandals

OK~ We still have 90 degree temps and my feet are still loving my sandals. I glanced over at my boots today and thought, " Ummmmmm- those look kind of cozy! " My toes really, really love
being  out in the open, so I'm not so sure I am enthused about the upcoming boot season. For now, I will enjoy my sandals and check out my sock situation.  Are you a sandal or boot person? I guess it is safe to say that I am a sandal person. After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?

The Rollercoaster Of Life

OK~ I am trying really, really hard to keep pulling my bootstraps up, but this is hard. Life can be very difficult at times. August 2012 sure reminded me how challenging life can be. When a medical crisis strikes aging parents the roller coaster begins. I am at an age where my young adult son needs me. My high school senior needs me. My Dad has been fighting for his life in the ICU unit with necrotizing pancreatitis. My Mom continues to roll along, with the assistance of family members she keeps trucking along. This is a time when faith, family, and friends really matter.

After 12 days here in The ICU unit, It feels like the outside world should stop. I have 12 days that have kind of just disappeared. I am ready for life to resume as normal, is there such a thing as normal? My own crummy mattress sounds good about right now. After All, It's All In A Mom's Day, Right?

September Brings Change

OK~ September is officially here and I am ready for the sights of Fall that are beginning to pop up here in North Iowa. A couple observations that Fall is on the way. The corn and soybean fields are rapidly changing, and the trees are even showing color. School was kicked into high gear last week and the winter coats are showing up in the stores. I am thinking Fall is a good time to buy a winter coat, as the selection would be good. But, who really wants to try on a winter coat when the thermometer is toying with triple digit temps? Not me. I will wait until the thermometer tells me I need one. I will try to embrace the colors of Fall and the beautiful change of the season. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
