A Reason Why Your 21 Year Old Son Should Not Clean Their Room

OK~ I'm open to your ideas. I found this on my 21 year old son's bedroom floor. The only reason I took a second look is his room was literally spotless! Yes, there is a God!  It only took 21 years for him to make his bed, use a laundry basket, and then this! This is what he used to clean the laminate flooring in his room. Now this, my friends, will be interesting to follow. I'm looking at this through the eyes of a Scientist.

There are strong ingredients in this product, and I must say it is not something that is recommended for cleaning laminate floors. I will be curious to see what happens to the floor. The floor looks clean, maybe a little too clean! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Easter Traditions with Hershey's

OK~ I was blessed to meet up with Hershey's while attending Blissdom in Nashville, Tennessee. The folks that represented Hershey's were very knowledgeable (yes, they knew their candy) and were fun! In my opinion, if there is chocolate involved, it has to be fun.  Lots of conference attendees, including myself had the pleasure of creating Easter baskets. So, in a couple weeks, we will have a nice little package on the door-step from Hershey's.

When my boys were younger the Easter Bunny always hid eggs- and I must add, a lot of them! These colored eggs were filled with candy and money. The Easter Bunny had fun mixing it up a little each year and inventing new hiding spots. And just a couple years ago, our youngest son was the Easter Bunny at our local mall for a kids event. It was fun to see him giving joy to kids from the perspective of a teenager.

When I was growing up, Easter Dinner was a big deal! The one fun memory I have is my cousins and I (there were 9 of us) continually passing the food bowls around the table. And yes, our Uncle Warren, would always scoop out a little from each passing. I know it sounds crazy, but that's one memory that I have of Easter Dinner. Geeze, how fun it would be to be a kid again?

Well,  I'm looking forward to Easter 2012. I'm not sure what the day will have in store, but we will experience it rather soon. What are your plans for Easter 2012? I kind of miss the crazy Easter egg hunts, but I guess there probably isn't any reason we can't have one this year either. My 21 and 16 year old son won't think there Mom has lost it, will they? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Gulfview Waterfront Resort: A Fabulous Stopping Point On The Over Seas Highway In The Florida Keys

OK~ The Iowa to Florida road trip continues. If you have traveled the over seas highway from Miami to Key West, Florida, you grasp the beauty of this drive. We enjoyed the drive and were delighted to have the opportunity to stay at the family owned Gulfview Waterfront Resort.  This family friendly resort is located in Marathon, Florida, at Mile Marker 58.7. This resort has adequate signage out on the main road, which made finding this resort very simple.

We arrived and were directed to the office- The lush grounds were amazing to us!

We were greeted by the friendly owners of the property and given keys to our home for the night- Stone Crab #17!   Two beds, a complete kitchen,  a full bath, 21st Century amenities, and a view that we adored.

Yes, this was paradise- we had arrived- Look at all the blue!

The Gulfview Waterfront Resort in Marathon, Florida, brought the tropics right to our door. This beautiful flower was just a few steps from our room.

If you are planning a vacation to the Florida Keys, the Gulfview Waterfront Resort will not disappoint you. This resort really is an ideal place to stay while visiting the Florida Keys, as it is located 1/2 way between Miami and Key West. If you are traveling with kids, this is even more ideal for you. With canoes, a swimming pool, a small beach, and a hammock near you at all times- this resort is sure to please you and your family. And once again, we did not hear, "I am bored!"

Connect with Gulfview Waterfront Resort on Facebook for updated information on happenings around the resort.

Stay tuned.....I've got so much more to share of the Iowa to Florida road trip. And another cool thing- the Gulfview Waterfront Resort is one of the "greenest" properties I have ever visited. I've got a whole blog post to share on "green living" at this resort.  After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*My family and I were guests at this resort in March of 2012. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's.

Making a Difference In The Lives Of Our Kids

OK~ So everywhere I turn lately it seems there is a 13 year-old boy involved in a crime. My mind is pondering. The words crime and a 13 year-old boy should not be allowed to be used in the same sentence. I am reminded that our boys have very few outlets anymore where they can actually be boys. You may ask, "What does that mean?"

Well, let me ask this, "Where are boys allowed to throw rocks into streams?" There are not too many places boys can do this simple activity. Do you remember as a child skipping rocks on water? I know as a young girl, I enjoyed tossing a rock and watching it skip over the water.  Most neighborhoods don't want a rock thrower around, which I can understand; but this also leaves a void in the lives of many young people. With concrete and buildings everywhere, this makes it difficult for boys to be boys.

I know my age is showing when I say this, "Where are kids allowed to kick a can around?" There are not many places that would even allow something as simple as this. Neighbors would get irate and insist that the kids place the can in the recycling bin. And some may argue that kids have no interest in kicking a can around, as they have their video games. But, when simple things such as a can are placed in front of a child, they often welcome the change.

I am not a gun lover, but have learned to embrace guns; as I have a high school trapshooter in the house. Self esteem issues are rampant with our kids today. I have seen what high school trapshooting does for the self esteem of teens- and I will say that trapshooting is one of the best ways to build the self esteem of any teen. This Mom has seen it first hand.

The First Day Of High School Trapshooting Practice 2012

Teens that cannot run fast or qualify to compete in academic decathlons are actively participating in   high school trapshooting. In high school trapshooting there are no benchwarmers- every kid (boys and girls) shoots and participates. This does not mean that every kid gets a trophy or a medal, but every kid is actively participating. Many life lessons are taught on a shooting range.

So- this still leaves the problem of where our boys (and girls) can still be kids. I'm encouraging each of you, my readers, to encourage a young person in your life to get out and explore nature. Introduce them to skipping rocks and maybe even learn to embrace something new for yourself, maybe trapshooting. Our kids need us more than ever. Maybe tomorrow I won't wake up to another headline involving a 13 year-old boy. How will you make a difference? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man: Islands of Adventure

OK~ More excitement on the Iowa to Florida road trip. Universal's Islands of Adventure continues to amaze this family!  On March 8, 2012, the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man re-opened after an extensive refurbishment project. I felt lucky to take a ride on this attraction one week after it re-opened.

Here's a glimpse into what the changes were and what you can expect if you opt to check out the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.

While waiting in line, there is a lot to keep your mind busy. With desks at The Daily Bugle to observe and movies playing overhead, the line does move rather quickly.

Once you get close to hopping on this attraction, you will grab a pair of these!

This is what you sit in while experiencing The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man!

The attraction is filled with all new, high definition, 3-D animation. The special effects within this attraction were amazing.........I felt like I was in the story. Yes- and let's just say that Spider-Man got a little close and personal. The special effects were fabulous, as was the 400 foot free fall experience. I highly recommend that you take a ride with Spider-Man while visiting Islands Of Adventure at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Keep in mind that youngsters can ride if they are 40" tall and accompanied by an adult. I do think that most kids that are 40" tall would enjoy this ride, as it's not too extreme. It is a dark ride, so if you have kids that don't like the dark, they should probably not ride this attraction. Universal Studios does offer a kid swap program, worth looking into if your kids aren't quite tall enough to ride. Enjoy the park......Book that family vacation to Universal Studios in Orlando today- your family will thank you! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*My family and I were guests in the park for one day in March of 2012. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's.

Duck Tape Review: Shoplet.com

OK~ Shoplet.com delivered a nice little package of duck tape to my doorsteps. The timing was very interesting, as we had just had a discussion about needing to round up some duck tape. Duck tape seems to be the cure all for all sorts of things around our house.

If you are not familiar with Shoplet.com, let me introduce you to what they offer. Well, let's see- they offer hand sanitizer, numi tea, office furniture, keyboards, and all of the office supplies you could ever imagine. And, of course duck tape.

I was sent these three items for review purposes:

The Duck EZ Start Premium Packaging Tape was very easy to use. The tape did not tear, which has been a frustration of mine, in regards to duck tape. And the beauty of this tape, I did not end up wearing any of this tape, as it all went where it was supposed to go. How many times have you tangled with a roll of duck tape? For this Mom, it's been too often. I'm happy to report that the Duck EZ Start Premium Packaging Tape did exactly what it was supposed to do.

And then there was the Duck EZ Start Premium Packaging Tape w/Dispenser. The disappointing thing about this product is that there were no instructions. Once I analyzed the dispenser, I had it figured out. Some short instructions would have been helpful. There was no bunching of the tape, tearing of the tape, as it all went where it needed to go.

The Zebra Printed Duck Tape was just fun! Again, there was no bunching of the tape and a straight cut every single time. I do know that there are several craft projects that involve a Zebra theme, and this fits the bill perfect. The avid crafter needs to have a roll of this Zebra Printed Duck Tape in their supply cabinet.

So, for now, our Spring projects that needed duck tape are good to go for the season, thanks to Shoplet.com. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*I did receive complimentary duck tape and a dispenser for review purposes. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's.

Spring Has Sprung In Iowa

OK~This is an unbelievable sight for March 25, 2012. I cannot recall the last time we had buds on the trees like we do now. Our lawns are green and the critters are also coming around. The pesky mosquitoes have already made their appearance, as well as some crazy spiders. But, for now, this Mom is going to enjoy all of this green!

On the other side of the barn....lawn mower repairs are happening as I post this! How does Spring compare in your neighborhood? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The Conversations On An Airplane

OK~ Have you ever really thought of who the person is that is sitting next to you on an airplane? I know that I like to talk, and sometimes I talk too much. While on a recent flight I had made up my mind that I was going to stay quiet the entire flight. Well, due to the fact that I was sitting next to a really nice lady, it just didn't happen.

Our conversation began with the two of us chatting about teens and young adults, imagine that? Since I am a Mom to boys that are 16 and 21, we had a lot to chat about. I was on my way home and she was venturing to her daughter's home. She was going to meet her infant granddaughter for the very first time. Her kids were a little older than mine, but we still had a lot to share.

As our conversation grew, we both shared some of the greatest challenges in our lives. She shared with me that her son would have been such and such an age the day before. I was taken back. The key words here, "would have been." Her son was 14 (if I'm recalling correctly) and killed by someone while walking home from school. A man had decided to steal a motorcycle, travel at a high rate of speed through a school zone, and kill her son. A freak accident like that is something that I've heard about in the news, but I had never met anyone that had lost a loved one this way. I listened and was so amazed at the strength that this Mom had. She was a Christian Mom, a caring Grandmother, and a Mom that no longer had her son in her life. She shared that she knew she would be reunited with him, but each day is hard.

I was glad she shared her story, as it made me realize how thankful I am to have both of my boys in my life. This lady was an inspiration to me! She is living every Mom's nightmare, each day of her life. But, all because of her faith in God, she is able to get up each morning and conquer a new day.

Who knew that a conversation like this could happen on an airplane? I was truly blessed to have met Zoraida. And let me tell you this, that  two hour flight was one of the quickest two hour flights I have ever been on. The lessons learned from this experience: Listen, Be a Friend, Hug Your Kids, and Have Faith! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Kisseo eCards Review

OK~ Kisseo eCards, Have you heard of them? I was introduced to these cards and was delighted that they were so easy to send! With the use of a simple app, you can send wishes for almost any occasion you can dream of. With more than 5000 cards to choose from, let's just say this- You will find the perfect card to send.

Once you have liked the Kisseo Facebook app, you will find that you have entered a whole new fun zone! You can send and receive cards for free, or opt to become a premium member. If you opt to become a premium member, your choice of cards is amazing! From the card designs, color, and animation- these cards were really fun to send. The one thing that I did not really like was the fact that anyone could see the card when I sent the card through Facebook. So, if you are wanting to send a more personal card, opt to e-mail the card to them. Overall, these eCards were amazingly user friendly and appreciated by the recipients.

Another cool thing about these Kisseo eCards is the fact that you can send them anywhere in the world. Kisseo eCards are designed in English, German, Spanish, Italian, and French.

And the best part- this Mom is somewhat technically challenged and she had no problem sending these fun cards! Send these cards through e-mail, Facebook, and even your iPhone app!

So, if you are on Facebook- Go ahead, Give the Kisseo Facebook app a like! If you have additional questions, take a tour through the Kisseo website. A fun way to stay in touch. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*I did receive a Premium membership in exchange for sharing this review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's.

Wright By The Sea- A Step Back In Time With A Touch Of The 21st Century

OK~ The Iowa to Florida road trip continues.......Wright by the Sea in Delray Beach, Florida, greeted our family with open arms.  This stunningly clean, white resort offered Florida charm unlike any other place we visited on our road trip. With twenty nine apartments with full kitchens and an ocean view- this resort will win you over.

This was our view as we pulled up! Doesn't this take you back to a much calmer place in time? The feel of this resort was Florida 1950's, with all of the amenities of the 21st Century. As the sun set, these chairs were occupied with people reading and enjoying the solitude. Wright by the Sea offers Florida charm that you will appreciate.

This was the staircase that took us up to our 2nd floor room. Evening was just as beautiful as daytime. Our 2nd floor room had a beautiful view of the ocean, as well as the pool area. The grounds were very lush and amazingly green! There were couples that "wintered" here, as well as families that were visiting with their kids. With a basketball court, shuffleboard, and a sturdy, cement ping-pong table; there were activities for kids of all ages.

And this, my friends, was our morning view-Absolutely beautiful! I loved the charm of this resort and felt right at home. This is a resort that I could find myself staying for a month or longer. The walk to the ocean was a short one, and the views were just amazing! And you know what?  Our 16 year old son was content here as well- he did not say he was bored. Oh yeah, and the owners and employees of this resort- super, super nice people!  Stay Tuned....I've got a lot more to share- the Iowa to Florida road trip offered a lot of inspiration. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*Wright By The Sea hosted my family and I for one night on our Iowa to Florida road trip. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. All opinions are mine and nobody else's.

With Spring Comes Teen Drivers And Working Car Doors

OK~ The rear passenger doors to the 1993 Taurus that our 16 year old son is driving have not worked in two-three years. This morning as he headed out the driveway to school, I noticed that the left rear passenger door was open. What? These doors don't work, right?

I went out to tell Garrett that the left passenger door needed to be closed. I casually opened it all the way and closed it. He says, "What? I didn't think those doors worked?" I thought to myself, "Yeah, just two months ago we tried and tried to open them!" So.....why would they decide to open now? Quite frankly, this Mom would have preferred they stay non-useable!

The perfect first car for a 16 year old is one that does NOT have functioning rear passenger doors- I do get it that teens will crawl over seats and find a way into the back seat if they need to be there. So now I wonder- is this a good thing or a bad thing?  Must be the early Iowa spring that sprung 'em open! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort: Perfect For Families of All Ages

OK~ The Iowa to Florida road trip continues......Each resort along the way offered its own unique amenities and views of their little piece of Florida paradise.

The Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort was beautiful! Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Julie at the front desk, who was very friendly and accommodating. She checked us in and we were on our way. We were a party of three and were given three wrist/ankle bands. These bands were to be worn while we were on the property. Now, I must say, this was not what I expected, but could quickly see that this was a good idea, once I saw all of the amenities!

The view from our 4th Floor Balcony Villa
This resort offers a lazy river, water slide, swimming pool, hot tubs, mini-golf, tennis courts, shuffleboard, basketball courts, a movie theater, and of course, the beach! If you are a family of any size with teens, young adults, young kids, or toddlers- this resort offers something for everyone. Now, if you are traveling with toddlers and pre-schoolers there is an indoor children's play area. This area is specifically designed for those youngsters 12 and under. So, rain or shine- Ron Jon Resort Cape Caribe has you covered!

The movie theater offered movies throughout the course of the day. The movies were family oriented, with the 9:00 p.m. showing (around this time) geared toward the more mature audience.

With a teen in tow, the body boards at the beach were a hit!

Body Boards Were Available for Rent- $5.00/hr or $10.00/day- The rental companies were set up on the beach
The words, "I'm bored" should not flow out of the lips of your child while at the Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort. The basketball and tennis courts also have fabulous lighting, should you opt to head out to these courts after the sun has set. And then there is the caribbean themed miniature golf course with no set tee times! Complimentary golf balls, putters, basketballs, tennis racquets, and tennis balls, are available at the front desk. Again, if the sun has set, there is adequate lighting to have an enjoyable round of mininature golf with your family.

The family amenities at the Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort were way more than I expected!  The Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort was very quiet considering all of the activities that were happening. If you are wanting a resort with pool side bars and full concierge services, this is not for you. If you want to have a great time with your family, stay in a very clean and quiet environment- this resort is for you. 365 days of the year- this is a great place to take your family.

Several cruise lines depart less than a couple miles from this resort, which makes the Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort a great place to spend a night before or after your cruise. Should you opt to stay here, you can even park your car for free while cruising.

And one other amenity that kind of goes with the location- Ship Watching! Yep, there are ships of all shapes and sizes that go right by the resort. Our fourth floor balcony villa in the main building offered a great view of several ships. I am sure the ocean front building is a fabulous place to view ships, as well. The ocean front building is closer to the beach area than the main building.

I have so much more to share of our Iowa to Florida road trip..........Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort did not disappoint this family! I'm still thinking.....I don't recall hearing the words, "I'm bored" while staying here either! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort hosted our family for two nights of lodging in March of 2012. We were guests on the property for two nights. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's.

A Re-Cap of Our Highways and By-Ways

OK~ Having returned from an Iowa to Florida road trip, I must tell you- our highways have a lot of junk on them!  With one destination in mind, Florida, this family did not stop for anything other than an occasional meal, some shut-eye and a few gas stops. Here is my list of rather interesting items we dodged on the highways....

I-65 near Birmingham, Alabama

  • Beach Towels
  • Tires and shredded tires (lots of them)
  • Sunglasses
  • Shirts
  • Bungee Cords
  • Chairs
  • Plastic bags (several of them)
The scary thing about those plastic bags, is the fact that you never know what is in them until you hit them. There could be nails, food, water bottles, and a whole other host of other items. And all of these tires- I'm curious, does anybody know who is responsible for picking those up?

Friends, drive safe and defensively. A great road trip- I have so much to share. Stay tuned.....Lots of fun resort information to share with you over the next few weeks! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day,Right?

Extra Space Storage: Your Answers To The Perfect Storage Space

OK~ We all have stuff!  Extra Space Storage can come to your rescue. I was lucky to meet some of the people that work for Extra Space Storage at Blissdom in Nashville, Tennessee. I must say, these two gals were very friendly, and accommodating.  They were professional and offered great tips when it comes to storing all of that "stuff."

Take a swing through the Extra Space Storage website. Here, you will find virtual tools to help you with your storage needs. I took a tour through the website and found it to be very user friendly. The company prides itself in the fact that their storage facilities are safe and customer oriented. Boat/Rv Storage is also available at some locations.

I saw one of these facilities a few days ago in the Miami, Florida area. It looked extremely sharp and clean. Some of the finest curb appeal I have ever seen at a storage space facility.

So, next time you are in need of a reliable facility to store all of your "stuff," be sure to see if there is an Extra Space Storage facility near you. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. I was one of the lucky people that had the opportunity to have Extra Space Storage ship some of my swag home for me. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's.

The Color Purple

OK~ I seriously did something I have never done before. Ready for this....Here it is-

Yep, I painted my nails purple! I immediately thought of the old saying, "When I am old, I will wear purple!" Yikes, have I crossed that bridge?  Oh well....For now, I'm enjoying the color purple!

Friday Always Rocks, No Matter What

OK~ Friday is here- Woot! Woot! We all love this day of the week, as a new week-end is upon us and a new week will be around the corner. Often times Friday cannot come soon enough, for these reasons:

  • Let's face it, Monday-Thursday can be a drag! Just the thought of having to get out of bed some mornings can set Monday-Thursday's tone.
  • The week-end is often a time to kick back and indulge in a little Rest and Relaxation. Who cares about the pet hair that is ground in the carpet, right? Jaws, (aka: vacuum cleaner), deserves an occasional break.
  • If you have kids in high school sports, your Friday nights are often spent at the gym. And if you are lucky, your son or daughter's team will have a winning season!
  • Summertime brings week-end picnics, family reunions that your kids whine about attending, and lots of pool time.
  • During the school year, Friday often means a break from the day to day grind of homework. Now, if your kids are anything like mine have been, this is always a major chore for Mom!
All in all Friday is usually a good day. For those unlucky people that work the week-ends, their Friday often arrives on Monday. To me Friday is just another busy day on the family calendar. I must admit, I do look forward to sleeping in a little longer on the week-end, as opposed to those early morning school days. I like Friday, but you know what? I also like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. So- for now, I'm going to enjoy Friday! And did you see that we have a Friday the 13th arriving soon? Now....that's a whole blog post of its own. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Numi Tea Review- Shoplet.com

OK~ When I was offered the opportunity to review Numi tea, I jumped right in with both feet. I am not a tea drinker, so I thought this would give me the chance to try something new. I was also pleasantly surprised to know that shoplet.com offers products other than office supplies. I received a nice selection of Numi tea and opted to sample these three:  Moroccan Mint, Chamomile Lemon, and Orange Spice.

The Moroccan Mint Numi Tea is blended with only real fruits, flowers, and spices. With a taste of freshness, this reminded me of nature. Although, I would have liked a little more actual mint taste.

The Chamomile Lemon Numi Tea tasted like lemon, with a little bit of tang. Now, for the tea enthusiast that enjoys a nice, relaxing up of tea before bed, this one is for you! There was just the right amount of citrus taste for me.

The Orange Spice Numi Tea was tasty. A little bit of lime and orange which reminded me of the Caribbean, with a touch of cinnamon. Again, the real herbs and spices really show through in this tea.

The Morocann Mint Numi Tea was my favorite of these three. If you love mint, in any way, shape, or form; I do think you will enjoy this flavor of Numi Tea.

Another cool thing, Numi Tea bags are made of natural biodegradable filter-paper, not GMO corn or plastic "silk". And, the outer package is made from 72% recycled content. How cool is that? A tea company going green!

My favorite of these three Numi Tea's was the Moroccan Mint. It was something different and did not remind me of tea. I'm not a huge tea drinker, so this gave me the opportunity to expand my tea tasting experiences. I loved the aroma of all three of these teas, and look forward to adding a little more tea into my life. All thanks to shoplet.com, for giving me the opportunity to sample something new.

*I did receive on box filled with samples of Numi Tea for review purposes. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's.

March Arrives, And It Snows

OK~ We have went most of the Winter without snow, and then we get to March 4th, and we have this!

I have to admit, it was kind of pretty. And I also love the fact that it's supposed to hit 60 degrees tomorrow. So....the Mud fest will begin! The Winter of 2011-2012 will go down as one of the muddiest in history. After the last couple extremely snowy Winters, I'll take the mud. My crazy mop has worked more in February than last Summer. So- bring on the mud, bring on the sunshine, bring on the 60 degree temps~ Let's welcome a warm, sunny Spring. I know that several Iowa High School Trapshooters would love a warmer Spring, a calmer Spring (lots of high wind days last year)- seems like a reasonable request, don't ya think? A Little Of This- A Little Of That- It Is Only Laundry

OK~ Here's what I just removed from the clothes dryer...

Not bad, huh? This is pretty good, considering that I live with three male people and two male dogs. Yep, all of this together. Thank God there are no pink socks in this mess! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Blissdom 2012 Reinforced My Love Of Writing And This Thing Called Social Media

OK~ I've now had one full to week to let the Bliss of Blissdom sink in. I must tell you, Jon Acuff, really motivated me to get moving with my passion. I knew that my passion was writing, but after listening to him say, "Are you gonna wait until you are 60 (or something to that effect) ?" Now, since I'm a 40 something year old woman, I need to get moving! So many great people, amazing food, inspiring writers, and amazing entertainment- Life does not get much better than that!

So....Here's some high-lights of my week-end!

The Lorax.....You gotta love this- And check out the party decor!
And front row entertainment~ Rascal Flatts rocked the stage!

And we were all lucky enough to get a sneak peak at Oprah's upcoming special with Paula Deen- Lots of laughs!
The Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center was simply amazing!

The conference attendees that I met were some of the nicest, friendliest, and inspiring people that I have ever met! I know a lot of people think I am crazy when I tell them that I found my cab buddies through Twitter. But hey- the power of Twitter rocks this Mom's world each and every day! It was also through Twitter that I made a connection with another fellow conference goer at the airport in Memphis, Tennessee. We met, before the conference even began! And the cool thing, another conference attendee was on the same plane- through the power of Social Media we were able to connect!

I'm happy to be home, and also glad to know that I can stay connected through the power of Social Media. The people I have met in Social Media are my friends and I cherish each one of them! I love my life, I love my job, and I love the opportunities that await me through Social Media. It all started three years ago when I started this crazy, little blog and hopped on the Twitter train. And guess what? This Mom is not looking back! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The Bullying Seems To Never End

OK~ My head is spinning. I have had two friends that have had children bullied in public schools, in the past two days. One was knocked un-conscious and the other was beaten to the ground. Now I do understand that bullying has been around for years, and we are more aware of it through Social Media and the media in general. But, you know what? This needs to be in the news. This is horrific!

I'll be honest. I used to think that kids that were home schooled were missing out. Not anymore- these kids are missing out on the bullying and the dangers that occur daily in our public schools. I think home schooling is a great option for families that can make it work. And I also get that we cannot shelter our kids from the "real" world.  But seriously, are we, as adults, beaten up while going to work each day?  Yes, it happens, but not as frequently as it does in our public schools.

My boys have both attended public schools and have had bullying issues along the way. I also know that my boys had some very supportive teachers and school administrators that were trying to do the best they can. Teachers are stressed, students are needy, and school administrators are tired of all the red tape. I just wish teachers could teach, kids could learn, and everybody could be happy!  I guess I'm living in the 1960's, or something in tune to that era.

My friend Michele Borba shares great information- If you have time, please watch this and share it with your family. The 6 R's That Reduce Student Bullying. It breaks my heart, as a Mom, to hear what is happening with our kids today. I'm sure bullying incidents are happening in all schools, and it just so happens the two incidents I learned of were in public schools.

As parents, we need to support our educators and be involved in the education of our children. But hey, I'll admit it, it's tough to be an involved parent when so many kids are not wanting to attend school and see the value of an education. The atmosphere can make a difference. So, how will you make a positive difference in your child's school? This Mom is still pondering what she will do. She does know that she will have many great conversations with several high school trapshooters, over the course of the next few months. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

If You Are a Mom, You Might Want To Think Before You Go On Strike

OK~ We all know that being a parent is a tough job. It is one of life's greatest experiences. So, why do our kids make things so difficult for us? I am going to challenge myself and say that the one great thing about being a Mom is simple, a Mom will always have a job! There is job security in being a Mom. And I suppose Moms could go on strike for a couple days, just to see how tall the laundry pile grows. Here's my take on why the job of a Mom never ends.

  1. Kids always need encouragement. When our kids are learning how to walk, we encourage them and cheer them on. When they are teen agers, we are often the first to hug them after they have cracked up the bumper on their car. And we Moms are the best cheerleaders for our kids when it comes to their music performances, as well as their athletic events. And the cool thing, we cheer them on; no matter how off key they are and how uncoordinated they are!  We Moms are great encouragers.
  2. Kids always need a teacher in the home. Yep, they may dislike school, but life is a lifelong learning experience. Sons and daughters both need to know how to wash a load of clothes. Who cares if they wash a load of clothes and the socks come out pink, does it really matter? Moms are the best teachers when it comes to 99.9% things in our kids' lives. Go ahead, teach. Selective hearing and that "eye roll" may happen, but go ahead, teach away!
  3. Kids need to know that Mom is available 24/7. With all of the technology in our world today, Moms can take on a lot of life's adventures, and still share in the lives of their kids! The reassurance that Mom is available is a good thing. Now, this Mom, does not take her cell phone to the gym; much to her 16 year old's disliking. Hey, a Mom has a right to a little break, right? And yes, when I leave the gym, the first thing I pick up, is my cell phone. A sigh of relief sinks in when there is not a message.
Go ahead...Be a Mom! Love your kids- show them that life is good. It's tempting to go on strike, but in the long run, it's much better to teach. Kids will always need encouragement and a Mom they can rely on. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
