The Remnants of An Afternoon of PaintBalling

OK~ I am not familiar with paint balling, but was introduced to it this afternoon. Garrett went to an Iowa paint ball range with a neighbor this afternoon. I had a feeling that he would come home looking interesting. He had orders to wear the oldest pair of jeans he owned, as well as his old eye glasses. He is home in one piece, just one little hit on the neck; and his clothing is somewhat what I expected. With one very large rip, I'm not sure that it's worth a spin with Wisk.

Remnants of an afternoon at a paint ball range

This is not a sport that this Mom will find herself embracing soon. Garrett can have all the fun he wants on a paintball range. I will stick to the occasional shot of a clay target. He's only $50.00 poorer and had a good time! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Paying At The Pump Seems To Be A Necessary Evil

OK~I'm all ears on this one. The last four times we have stopped at a gas station to fill our cars with gas, there has not been any paper to print the receipt at the pump. I seriously wonder why gas stations have even installed such a fabulous device. The purpose of being able to pay at the pump, or so I thought, is the convenience of not having to run into the gas station; which in turn saves me time and money. Although, from a marketing stand point, it makes sense to not have the device loaded with paper. Every single time, it has not been due to an issue with the pay at the pump feature; just a case of the machine not being loaded with paper. Oh well, I guess I need to get used to not paying at the pump. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

It Is Time To Wash The Tractor

OK~ It's a nice, breezy day in Iowa to wash the tractor!  Dad is scrubbing, Grandpa is supervising (holding a brush) and Garrett is checking out his phone. Ahhhhh....you gotta love the year 2012!

Tuckaway Shores Resort: Old Florida At Its Finest

OK~ Tuckaway Shores Resort is simply one of the most welcoming resorts my family and I have ever visited. The resort itself is very quiet, and is literally just a few steps from the Atlantic Ocean. There is a feel of "Old Florida" throughout the resort, and I must say that "Old Florida" is not easy to find while traveling through Florida. From the pelicans, to flamingos, to palm trees, to green plants, and the beach; Old Florida surrounds you while staying at Tuckaway Shores Resort. There's a lot to do, but you would never know that upon checking in. It's so quiet and welcoming....takes you back to a different time.

The swimming pool is a nice size- not too big and not too small! Just the right size to meet the needs of the guests that are residing in the 30 complete units.

A welcoming swimming pool

The decor in our room was very clean, welcoming and brought the "Old Florida" feel right on into it. This pelican was sitting up on a shelf between the kitchen and living room. It tied in with the whole setting, just perfect! Take note, this is an award winning resort when it comes to "The White Glove Test"- this one passes with flying colors.

Old Florida

Our suite was spacious at the Tuckaway Shores Resort. With a kitchen, living room, bedroom and bath, we had ample room. The large window provided an awesome view of the Atlantic Ocean.

The walk to the ocean from Tuckaway Shores Resort is less than one minute. This was our beautiful morning view!

Sunrise!

The feel of "Old Florida" is really a form of nostalgia that many of us long for. We are all looking for small ways to slow down our busy lives. Tuckaway Shores Resort offers a quiet place to unwind, but yet offers the fun that the Florida sunshine has to offer!

The view from the main walkway to the beach.

Book your stay at Tuckaway Shores Resort, you will be glad you did! This resort is great for a couple looking for a quiet week-end away from the kids, as well as a busy week-end with the kids. Tuckaway Shores Resort can meet your needs. Trust me:  You will not be disappointed- The Iowa to Florida roadtrip kicked off with a stay here, and the hospitality was top notch! Book your room today. Three Things That You Need To Know About Iowa

OK~ I've got three new things to share with you! As an Iowa farm gal, there are many things that I have taken for granted.

  • I have always assumed that people know meat comes from animals, as it does not come from a "wrapper" in the grocery store.
  • I have always assumed that people know that Iowa is not Idaho- Iowa is not known as the state with the potatoes.
  • I have always assumed that people know that Iowa is in the Mid-West.
I have been reminded that it is not always right to assume. As you can tell, my assumptions have proved me wrong. Here in the heartland we have work to do. We Iowans are a small percentage of the population of the United States, yet we feed millions of people throughout the world.

The Field Position covers a lot of information that I have learned many of you are pondering the answers to. Shannon Latham prides herself on her recipes, as well as her passion for agriculture.

The High School Trap Shooting Venues Get Interesting

OK~ This is my life as of late. I have been spending a lot of my time at high school trapshooting meets. And yes, this means I am at many gun clubs, which often cater to men. My experience as of recently.......

#1- There is rarely a line to the women's room, the line is always to the men's room. (This is a good thing).

And here is where things get real dicey....Yep, this is what was on the floor in the women's room.

A mouse trap!

So you see- I have not only to embrace high school trapshooting, but I have also learned to embrace the facilities that are offered at gun clubs. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

A Reflection Of My Green Living Initiatives

OK~ I'm being reminded that Earth Day 2012 is quickly approaching through a ton of media sources. So, I began to ponder my "green living" initiatives. Here are my random thoughts:

  • I do use re-usable shopping bags when I do my grocery shopping. I do question how often I should be washing them, as I'm sure they can get pretty yucky. Have you ever thought about what has been sitting on the check-out stand before you set your re-usable bag down? I must add that I really do like carrying my own shopping bags, as they are so easy to handle; as opposed to the piles of plastic bags that it takes to fill one of my own bags.
  • Our light bulbs are all the new style and I will admit they do not burn out as often as the older ones. The frustration I have with these bulbs, is that we have a light fixture that was purchased and installed five years ago that does not accommodate these new bulbs. So.....the cover is not on the fixture. But hey, who looks up at the ceiling while in the bathroom?
  • I do not throw trash out of my car windows. I witnessed three people this morning, while sitting at a stop light; tossing their partially lit cigarettes out the car window- one of those things that makes you go "ummmmm."
  • I am excited to plant our garden, we just need some warm Iowa weather and we can get those seeds in the ground.
So- In the grand scheme of things, I'm really not that "green" of a person, but I am trying to make a difference in my little corner of the world. For now I will ponder and think how I can continue to make our world a little greener. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Midwest Dairy Council: Get Mooving Prize Pack Giveaway & Dairy Product Review

OK~ Spring has arrived and it's time to get outdoors and get moving. The Midwest Dairy Council has teamed up with All In An Iowa Mom's Day, to help motivate you to get moving in the great outdoors! Dairy products are a fabulous way to fuel your body. It's also important to remember that dairy can be served in lots of fun and tasty ways. We've always enjoyed chocolate milk, and I am seeing reasons why we need to continue to enjoy it.
Information from the Midwest Dairy Association

Here are some more facts from the Midwest Dairy Association:

Fuel for an Active Lifestyle — Milk’s nine essential nutrients play an important role in fueling an active lifestyle. Drinking milk can be an ideal way to help the body refuel, rehydrate and recover after a workout.
Chocolate Milk Is Nature’s Sports Drink — Research published in the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism on young adults showed that chocolate milk is twice as effective as commercial sports drinks to refuel exhausted muscles.
Whey Protein Packs Energy — Whey protein is a high-quality protein found naturally in dairy foods, and it provides the protein your body can best use to help promote better health. It helps you get the most out of your workout by speeding muscle recovery after exercise and helping build and maintain lean muscle.

The Blues Buster Smoothie is another fun way to enjoy dairy products. I'm all about simple, and this recipe is just that- SIMPLE!

There Was A Storm Brewing

OK~ Springtime in Iowa brings storms.  Lately we have been on a weather roller coaster. A couple days ago we had this happening in our back yard.

Three Reasons Why You Should Stay At Ron Jon Resort: Cape Caribe

OK~ The Ron Jon Resort: Cape Caribe is simply an awesome place to stay! The next time you are in the Cape Canaveral area, you should book a stay here. I've got three reasons as to why you should.

The #1 reason why you should stay here is the fact that this is a clean resort. My family and I have not had the delight of always experiencing clean resorts while on vacation, so we were happy to see how clean this one was.

We loved the "beach" feel in our room, as I'm sure most travelers do.  And look how clean and fresh everything is.

Master Bedroom

Here in the Mid-West we don't have the opportunity to just walk out the door to the beach. So...this leads me to #2. The second reason you should stay here is the fact that the beach is in view and right up the road. If you don't want to take the short walk to the beach, you can hop on this cool ride- it will take you right down to the beach.

The Tram To The Beach

So......we are now to #3. The third reason I would suggest you stay here is the fact that you literally have your own water park right outside your door!  This resort does offer a lot of amenities that involve a lot of people, and yet there is not an excessive amount of noise on the property. My family and I were pleasantly surprised, as several people had told us this resort would be very noisy. We had a very quiet night of sleep and were ready to conquer the next day.

The On-Site Water Park Will Delight Everyone

And these are really cool. This Mid-Western Mom was intrigued with these.  How cool is this?

Outdoor Showers

Ron Jon Resort: Cape Caribe will not disappoint. And if you happen to be scheduled to cruise out of Port Canaveral, this is the ideal place to stay before and/or after your cruise. Your cruise ship is not more than a couple miles from here and you can even park here for free while on your cruise.

Oh yeah, and one more reason.......Check out this view- straight from our balcony!

The View of The Water Park From Our Room

We loved our stay here! From the friendly staff members to the cleanliness of the whole property, Ron Jon Resort: Cape Caribe will give you and your family fond memories for years to come.

Mom Baked A Cake

OK~ I am not a cook and I am not a baker. So, when I take to the kitchen, my boys all wonder what I am going to dream up. This is my life......

I had baked this cake to take along to a trapshooting meet the next morning. Yep, this was baked around 8:00 P.M.- By 9:00 P.M., this is what I had left!  Lesson learned, when baking a cake for an event outside of the home, HIDE IT! So.....On to Plan B- Scotcheroos (Thankfully I had the ingredients in the house). After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Learning To Embrace New Experiences

OK~ As a Mom to two boys, I've done a lot of things I never imagined I would do. I have never been a fan of guns, but I have learned to embrace them.

It was during our years of Cub Scouting that I was introduced to bb guns. Out of desperation for trained bb gun instructors, while attending Cub Scout Camp; I found myself in a training session for being a trained bb gun instructor for the Boy Scouts of America. And low and behold, for the next few week-ends I was booked for several day camps in the area. Yep, I was an official bb gun instructor for the Boy Scouts of America- and I had the papers to prove it.

My youngest son had a passion for shooting, and he proudly joined our local high school trapshooting team as a Freshman in high school. He's now a Junior in high school and doing quite well on the high school trapshooting team. Trapshooting has helped him mature into a young adult, as well as offered him opportunities to compete in a sport that he enjoys.

Yes, I have shot his trap gun  a couple times- and I am happy to report that I have hit "A" target.

I had no idea that there were so many different types of guns for shooting sports. I have learned to embrace guns, embrace the opportunity they have offered my son, and I see kids enjoying themselves in high school trapshooting. So....I will continue to embrace the life experiences my "almost" 17 year old son will toss my way and embrace them with open arms! What continues to amaze this Mom is that the "new" experiences that I think I will have, are always something different from what I have dreamed they would be. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Gulf View Waterfront Resort: Green Lodging

OK~ The Iowa to Florida road trip got a little greener when we entered the grounds of the Gulf View Waterfront Resort. The grounds were quaint, charming and green. Green living took on a whole new meaning in this beautiful resort, located in the Florida Keys.

Palm Trees Were Abundant

This sign hung on the wall....

Working Together To Save Our Earth

And right below this sign.......These were provided for use.

Perfect For Groceries And/Or Souvenirs
What a fabulous idea! Shopping bags were placed on the wall in Unit #17 for us to use. TheseThermo totes were available for use in all units, and also available for purchase in the office.

Interior lighting is all compact florescent, as well. Each unit also had a handy recycle bin to handle plastics, cardboard, metal, and the like.

Green lodging just got a whole lot simpler when traveling through the Florida Keys. The Necessity of Pawn Shops For Young Adults

OK~ I seriously feel as though I live in a closet at times. I have set foot in a pawn shop one time in my life, after a police officer had sent me there. It was at that point, that I realized that people steal items and "unload" them at pawn shops. Due to the fact that we had items stolen, this was where the police officer instructed us to go.

My 21 year old son says today, "Geeshe, I don't know why he got so mean!"  I said, "Who?" "Well, that man in the pawn shop got real irate after I showed him the PS3 Gaming System that I wanted to buy for $50.00 actually worked." And due to the fact that the gaming system worked, there was no sale.

Yep, my jaw dropped. I am thinking to myself, "What on earth are you doing in a pawn shop?"  I guess I need to get over it....I am assuming lots of people visit pawn shops, or they would not be on every street corner. Do you frequent pawn shops?  If so, I'd love to hear about your experiences.

So, I now shake my head- Sometimes it's really better to not know, than it is to know; when it comes to the life of my 21 year old son. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

OK~ Wright By The Sea, located in Delray Beach, Florida, offers fun for everyone; ages 0-100+.  This luxury resort offers apartments which are available for daily, weekly, and even monthly rentals. With a cozy bed, comfy living space, and a kitchen; your apartment will meet all of your basic needs during your stay at Wright By The Sea. Family Reunions, and even Weddings, For the beach lovers in the family- There are cabanas on the beach, as well as a beautiful, private beach area, all within a hop, skip, and jump of the Atlantic Ocean.

And when I say activities for kids of all ages, that is exactly what I mean. Nothing beats a game of shuffleboard in a setting like this! Yep, that is the Atlantic Ocean right on the other side of the Chickee Hut Pavilion. In Southern Florida these pavilions are around a lot of corners, kind of like barns in Iowa.

And for you water lovers, Wright By The Sea offers a beautiful swimming pool with a view all of its own! And just on the other side of the swimming pool is the Atlantic Ocean. There is also a nice outdoor shower area, which is strategically placed upon re-entering the grounds from your walk along the beach.

It Is Time To Tip Toe Through The Tulips

OK~ If I don't have a kid acting up, it is a dog! And let me tell you, Skipper Black Dog had better learn really fast on how to tip toe through the tulips. This tangled mess in "my" tulips is getting old fast. I now see one yellow tulip on the ground.

One would think he could find a different path to drag that tire around on. Although, it is pretty obvious that he is standing on one very beaten dog path. So, I'm assuming I should not expect any tip toeing to begin soon! I'm really loving this green, Iowa Spring. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

KIMT Weather Guys Rock

OK~ I had the delight of being the Blog & Social Media Expert on our local television station, KIMT Channel 3. While in the studio I was able to see two of their weather experts in action. They were preparing a little experiment that they were going to share in the weather segment.

And I must add- the experiment was a success during the news cast!

The other cool thing- these guys take the weather on the road by sharing their weather knowledge with local school kids in the area. It was fun to see these guys in action, as they shared their weather knowledge with all of their viewers. Our local weather people on KIMT Channel 3 sure know how to rock North Iowa and Southern Minnesota.

So, being asked to be on the "Ask The Expert" segment on March 26, 2012, was educational for myself as well.  As always, I learned something new- After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Cherry Blossoms In Iowa

OK~ I'm so thankful that Spring arrived early, or thought I was. Now, for the next week or so we have frost and freeze warnings in our forecast. I was delighted to find this yesterday.....

Cherry Blossom
Yep,  our cherry tree began to blossom! Now I will wonder.....Will these buds survive a freeze?Mother Nature sure knows how to keep us guessing. The last couple of Iowa winters have been extremely brutal, with a lot of snow and cold. This past winter was very mild- therefore, we are paying the price. We have lots of wood ticks and the other report I'm reading.....The mice will be really, really bad next Fall!  Yikes......As you recall, this Mom has had way too many clashes with those furry creatures!

So---- for now, I'll kick back and pray that these flowers keep their color! When in all reality, I have no say in it- Dear Mother Nature has control over everything! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

A few less items to pack for your vacation to Tuckaway Shores Resort.

Indialantic, Florida, is located a little more than an hour from the Walt Disney World Resort area. So, if you are family that desires a vacation with the theme parks and the beach, Tuckaway Shores offers a solution to your lodging needs.

Tuckaway Shores is proud of the fact that they are also an award winning resort!  Check these awards out. In 2009 and 2010 they received the Superior Small Lodging White Glove Award (They definitely qualify for this award), as well as a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor in 2011.

We loved our stay at Tuckaway Shores and I know that you and your family would enjoy your time here. We met families while staying here, as well as people that prided themselves on returning here for their 18th Winter. Yes, you read that correctly, we met people that had visited this resort for the 18th year straight! Once you stay here, you will totally understand why!

Go ahead, book that family vacation! Tuckaway Shores Resort will not disappoint! This Iowa Mom and her family had a wonderful time here. Oh yes, and I must say, the staff was the best! Friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable about the area. And again, we did not hear, "I am bored from our 16 year old son!" After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*My family and I were guests on this property for one night in March of 2012. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's.
