OK~ I was cruising through the news channels today, and what was so interesting; is the fact that the same stories that were headlining yesterday were headlining today. I can honestly say that my brain is much healthier and happier when I am not watching a news channel.
My Dad spent the month of September in the hospital with several days on full life support and the ICU unit. He was discharged from the hospital the first week of October. One thing he said really struck me. He commented that nothing has really changed as he was watching a news channel. He commented, "We are still in Afghanistan, Syria is still a mess, and Congress is still arguing about nothing!" Now that makes a person think.
This should also be a wake up call to the news media. If a man can miss almost six full weeks of news and the stories are still the same, this should probably tell the news media that their message needs to change. I got to thinking about that statement- yep, I was actually thinking about that. I consider myself to be a news junky, but you know what; I am much happier when I am not watching the news channels.
Now we not only have the debt ceiling to debate, we now have gun control, and everyone knows the answers. There it is, no discussion. It is no longer OK to agree to disagree, so our news media will continue to share the same message day in and day out. Or, maybe the fact of the matter is, is that our day to day happenings do not change; we just anticipate that they should.
Our youngest son will graduate from high school this Spring. I wonder how different the news stories will be from now until then. He thinks the news will still be the same. Oh yeah, he chose an interesting topic (back in September) for his Senior presentation, gun control. With all of the happenings in our country, he chose a "hot" topic. Gun control through the eyes of a high school senior that enjoys trapshooting and hunts should be an interesting presentation. And who knows, maybe the news will change by then. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
