Signs That It Is Fair Time In Iowa

OK~ Summertime rolls around and The North Iowa Fair is the highlight of the summer for many families. I wish it could be the thriving, exciting place that it was when I was growing up. Times have changed. The fact of the matter is there are fewer farm kids, fewer kids in general in our area, fewer animals to be shown and families have many more choices. Due to my involvement in 4-H, I lived at the North Iowa Fair, during fair week; for ten years while growing up. There is still reason to visit your local county fair. Reason #1- Big Rigs!

I visited the The North Iowa Fair today and I will say that the facilities were clean, inviting, and there was something for everyone. What was missing? The people, period. People are busy working and local fairs are not at the top of the priority list for families. I do think that in order to attract families today, you have to have events that do attract people of all ages. The North Iowa Fair does have activities for families and people of all ages. And the people? I am hoping they show up this week-end!

This rock climbing wall was attracting quite a few folks this afternoon. I am thinking when the activity heats up later in the day, this will be very busy.

The horse barn was extremely busy. There were many youth getting their horses ready for events this afternoon. Kids of all ages were enjoying the horses and liking the fact that they could pet them.

A fair would not be complete without fair food. This lemonade stand looked enticing on a hot summer day! What's your favorite type of fair food?

Hoover's Hatchery is a sponsor this year over in The Little Farmer's Area. Chicks have been hatching and will continue to hatch throughout the fair.

The North Iowa Fair promises to be a fun time for your family. If you live in North Iowa, be sure to visit in the next few days. Fair time is a fun time of the year. Have you attended a fair this year? If so, I'd love to hear about your favorite part of it! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

  2. We're looking forward to our Franklin County Fair next week! My favorite part of the fair is the people, the sense of family and community, and anything 4-H.
