OK~ A couple of people have asked me what hashtags are on Facebook this past week, so I thought I would share a little bit about them. Hashtags look like this: # (The pound sign on your keyboard).
Hashtags are used when folks want to make something a little easier to find on social media networks. I am only going to address Facebook in this post. A great example would be when you are attending a local parade. Here in Mason City we have Band Festival each May.
I may post a status update of: Having fun at #BandFestival in Mason City. The thought here is that other folks that are attending Band Festival will be using that same hashtag.
In the graph search bar you can key in #BandFestival and would then see all of the status updates that had #BandFestival updates in them. If you are planning a vacation to Florida, you can easily search out #Florida. You will see all status updates with Florida information in them.
Maybe you are searching for Back to School deals. Just type in #BacktoSchool and you will find tons of information on Back to School. Or, maybe you are an avid scrapbooker looking for new ideas. Just type in #scrapbooking. Do you see the benefit yet?
Hashtags on Facebook area a useful tool. I have been using them on Twitter for 4 1/2 years and am just beginning to train myself on regularly using them on Facebook. Hashtags make searching online very simple. Try it and let me know what benefit you got out of using hashtags.
Just when we think we understand Facebook, we all need to learn something new. Hashtags are a great new tool on Facebook and it's one we can all learn to embrace. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
