ALEXANDER Prize Pack Giveaway

OK~ I've got a quick giveaway for all of you Disney fans! Disney's Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day hits theaters nationwide on October 10th. Here's a glimpse as to what you can expect. One of you will win a ALEXANDER Prize Pack, just like the one that I will receive. I did not receive any compensation for this post and all the opinions here are mine and nobody else's. So..... who's ready to laugh?

This new Disney film is directed by Independent Spirit Award winner Miguel Arteta ( The Good Girl, Cedar Rapids, Youth in Revolt) from a screenplay by Rob Lieber. The year 1972 falls into play here, as well. I remember that year well, as I started Kindergarten that year. This film is bases on the book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, which was first published in 1972! This book was written by Judith Viorst and inspired by her sons Alexander, Anthony and Nicholas. With more than 2 million copies in print, it became an ALA Notable Children's Book and won a George G. Stone Center Recognition of Merit, a Georgia Children's Book Award and was also a popular Reading Rainbow Book. As a Mom of two boys, I "get" this story!

It's always fun to see the "old" classics that I grew up with come around into something that fits today's world! Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is sure to be a hit! Plan now to see it when it arrives in a theater near you.

I have a super fun Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day prize pack to giveaway.

- One (1) official ALEXANDER coffee mug
- One (1) giant green highlighter
- One (1) crocodile stress toy
- One (1) official ALEXANDER reusable bag
There's also a Family Press Kit with games and activities.

North Iowa Bloggers Sample Fall Flavored Oreos

Photo: Courtesty of Beth Ann Chiles of It's Just Life

OK~ Oreo cookies are not something that I indulge in. But, due to the fact that the North Iowa Bloggers gathered for a sampling of the new Oreo flavors, I may now need to indulge. We did not sample the so-called "normal" Oreos that you find on the shelves all year long. We were able to find eight Fall flavors.  We sampled all of them and came up with a favorite.

Beth Ann of It's Just Life, hosted our North Iowa Blogger get together. She rolled out the red carpet for us bloggers and had set up an awesome "taste testing" station. Isn't this cool?

I know that you all want to know what these results were. Well, I do believe we all had similar taste buds. We did end up with several partial Berry Oreos, which landed in the trash! Amy, of Modern Rural Living was ready to chuck this one!

My least favorite was the Berry- Quite honestly I thought they tasted like pink medicine! I also think it's fair to say that others felt the same way. Katy of Learning As I Go expressed the dislike as much as I did!

Next, I would have to say Pumpkin Spice and Rootbeer did absolutely nothing for me. I would NEVER pay money for these. The Pumpkin Spice really had a strange taste- and the Rootbeer tasted good, until my tasted buds had time to absorb the bitter taste! Yes, I said bitter, and that's how it was.

Vanilla and Chocolate Birthday Cake tasted just like regular Oreos to me! They scored an even "like."

The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough was OK, nothing  have to go running to the store to buy- but they were edible.

The Peanut Butter Oreo Cookies won overall- with all of the North Iowa Bloggers for the best tasting! Val of Corn, Beans, Pigs and Kids LOVED the Peanut Butter Oreos!

Although my favorite was Caramel Apple. I can say that I will buy these- I thought they were fantastic. Jeni of Jeni Eats is the food blogger of our group and I am anxious to see if she will come up with some awesome recipes from any of these!

So, tell me, are you an avid Oreo fan? What flavors are your favorite? The North Iowa Bloggers are always up to trying new products- Remember all of those Lays chips they tasted? This group is always up for fun. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

* The North Iowa Bloggers purchased the Oreos and the opinions expressed here are mine and those of the North Iowa Bloggers.

A Glimpse Into Life In Iowa

OK~ People ask me all the time, "What's it like to live in Iowa?" I'm not sure what people expect, but it is fair to say that where I live; it's rather quiet and the views are far and wide.

Wide Open Spaces

I often think people picture a horse and buggy, which is not the case.

I live in the country near a community of 27,000 people. I consider that to be quite big, but when it's put in perspective, it's not. Recently on an plane a gentleman from a town in California commented, "Yeah, we live in a small town too, there are 150,000 people in it." Yeah, now that's a jaw dropper for this Mom.

I am surrounded by corn and soybean fields. In case you don't know, corn is tall and soybeans are short.

Soybean Field In Iowa: Fall 2014

Our gravel road does not see much traffic throughout the day, so when we have five or six vehicles go by in a day, I often comment, "I wonder where all that traffic came from."

I often sit at a stoplight behind four or five cars and think, "Dang, this line is not moving fast enough." When I travel to a big city, such as Atlanta, things are put into perspective. It's not uncommon in a city like that to sit with a hundred cars at one intersection. So that measly four or five cars, is not bad at all!

Spring and Fall are busy with farm traffic. Combines and tractors are a common site on all roads, including highways. Farm equipment does not travel at 55 mph, so it's important to pay attention when driving in rural America when planting and harvest seasons are in full swing.

Our lakes are surrounded with lots of trees and wide open areas. In Iowa, lakes are enjoyed all year around. Boating enthusiasts enjoy the warmer season and ice fisherman love the cold! Which brings me to the dreaded topic of Winter. It's true, I cannot stand Winter! The older I get, the more I despise it. Last year we had 10 days in a row where our actual air temperature did not go above zero. Now that, my friends, is frigid!

In Iowa we wear boots when it turns cold. I'm always surprised to find people in the South wearing boots when it's in the 80's for temps. Boot weather to me is when it's cold out and/or there is snow and ice on the ground. The concept of feet sweating to get that "look" have never interested me. I will wait until the thermometer dictates that it's time to break out the boots.

And then there are our farm cats. They make life rather fun and interesting. And I'm happy to report that they are indulging in those field mice, which means I will have one less mouse to worry about when it comes to hanging out in our house.

So, that's a glimpse as to what life is like in Iowa. How does your life compare to this Iowa Mom's scenery? I'd love to hear about it. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Fall TV Is Back On Your U.S. Cellular Devices, Is It Time To Cut The Cable Cord? #SPONSORED

Disclosure: As part of the Better Moment Blogger Brigade Program, I did receive compensation for this post. The opinions expressed here are mine and nobody else's. I have been a U.S. Cellular customer for 10+ years.

OK~ The Fall television season is back and it's no secret that many households have cut the cable cord, including this household. For us, it became an issue of how often do we have to wait for the cable company to come and repair "something." I got tired of the waiting and in all honesty, we have not missed it. We have turned to our mobile devices. U.S. Cellular happens to have a very reliable 4G LTE Network that offers a cutting edge device, such as my iPhone 5s.

According to an Experian Marketing Services Report, Americans who no longer subscribe to cable or satellite TV have increased 44 percent in the past four years, which equals 7.6 million households. A recent U.S. Cellular survey also revealed that 79 percent of respondents use a smartphone daily. Of those, 84 percent have cable or satellite TV, but 34 percent have considered dropping it for alternate services. Our digital world continues to change, and once a family embraces a smartphone or tablet, the new doorways to technology are truly endless.

So, are you thinking of cutting the cord to cable? Here's some tips to help you decide if you and your family are ready. In our household, it was a no brainer!

  • Determine what TV shows you watch. If your list is small, Google Play and iTunes sell individual TV episodes for $1.99 to $2.99. Season passes are also available at discounted rates.
  • Hulu Plus and Netflix offer monthly subscriptions that begin at $7.99, and you can watch HD shows on all of your devices including your computer, tablet, or smartphone. How cool is that?
  • Are you already a subscriber to at least one of the above mentioned monthly subscription sites? Then you may be interested in purchasing a streaming media player such as a Roku, Apple TV, or Amazon Fire, which allows you access to thousands of channels, subscription services, convenient ways to rent or buy movies, watch on demand shows and play games.
It's inevitable that your kids will try to log into something you don't approve of. That's where U.S. Cellular's Parent/Child Agreement App comes into play! An investment worth every single penny.

Have you ditched cable or satellite tv? I'd love to hear about your experience! I know. in this house, it's been a positive one. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

A Social Media Event and A Broken Tooth Make For a Chaotic Schedule

OK~  I had a busy week on tap, so I had planned. It's quite obvious that I had not planned well enough. On Monday I traveled to the Minneapolis airport, which is only a two hour drive, to pick up our guest speaker for our social media event in Mason City, Iowa. Melody Jones of Parker, Colorado had agreed to come to speak and we were elated!

The road trip to the airport and back was a breeze. Melody got settled in at the Historic Park Inn Hotel and I was off wrapping up last minute things for the event. The next day arrived and our event happened! Several folks from North Iowa attended and were re-energized in their social media efforts. It was when Melody took the stage that I decided to take a bite out of a cookie. As I was chewing, I thought to myself, "Since when did bakeries put rocks in cookies?" It was at that moment that I knew I had lost part of a tooth. Oh yeah, my day was now so much fun!

And due to the fact that our insurance had all changed June 1st, I had no clue who our new dentist was. I knew that our new plan was accepted in an office that I had never heard of. I called them and they, of course, could not get me in until Friday afternoon. Well, hello? I need to be in Sandusky, Ohio, at Bloggy Conference on Friday evening, so that means a NO GO! They then inform me that they can get me into another office, which is 90 miles SE of where I live. I took the appointment.

So, remember all that planning I had told you about? I did plan my day out well, just not as planned. I took Melody back to the Minneapolis Airport- round trip travel time of 4 hours. I then continued to the town 90 miles SE of where I live- tack on another 1 1/2 hours. Oh yeah, my day just got better!

I then saw the dentist who informed me that the people that scheduled my appointment did not leave time for repair work to be done to my teeth. HELLO? That's why I called the office. I explained that I had an emergency with my tooth and needed to be seen asap. The dentist apologized for the lack of knowledge of the appointment scheduler, so I get to go back to the dentist tomorrow. Yep, another 3 hours in the car- so, I will have added an extra 12 hours of into my week of dealing with a broken tooth. I was told to arrive at 3:10 p.m. today- I arrived at 3:12 p..m. (not bad for coming straight from Minneapolis) and called back at 4:00 p.m. I think if I would have been seen at my scheduled appointment time my tooth could have been repaired today.

Local seems to mean 90 miles to our new insurance company- I still can't grasp the fact that a CVS store that is 90 miles away is local. Oh well, that's a whole other saga! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Old Time Candy: Giveaway Runs Through September 19, 2014

Hosted by More Than Just Reviews by Pink

Sponsored by Old Time Candy

Old Time Candy offers candy by the decade from the 20's all the way up to the 90's, the company was founded by 2 "baby boomers" from Lagrange, Ohio, Karen and Donny Ray. Who doesn't love candy, right? Especially candy that brings back a lot of fun memories.
I was impressed at this 4 pound box of candy that was sent to me, everything was pretty much right on, my kids ate most of the candy and the 4 year old drove me crazy asking every 5 mins or so for candy... I think her fave was the Ring Pop.
Ring Pop
It did bring back some great memories....Me, my sisters and cousin used to chew these wax lips for hours, I remember the wax being stuck in my teeth, but that didn't stop us. We used all sorts of imagination with these lips lol.
Wax lips
I chose the 80's box, because I am an 80's baby. As I said before I was over all impressed. I personally would probably choose the 70's box, as I was younger in that time frame and ate more candy.
There were just a few cons, not exactly negatives about this box. Probably 80% of what was in the box is stuff that can still easily purchased at lots of gas stations. Some of the things I was most looking for was not included, like for instance, I swear I recall Chick-o-Sticks being one of the candies I ate all the time, but then again this could be from another decade.
6148126248_cfcb397e7d_z The one thing that would make this box better is if they could figure out a way to put the items in its original packaging. I would definitely use Old Time Candy if I were having a decade themed party. Enter below to win your own 4 pound box from the decade of your choice.

I received this product for the purposes of review. All opinions are 100% my own. If you would like to see your product featured in a future review and/or giveaway you can contact More Than Just Reviews by Pink here.

Yes, It's Called World Wide Web For A Reason

OK~ The words world wide web have came across my desk more times in the last few days than I care to mention. When you hear the world wide web, what do you think of? If you are like me, you think of whatever it is being available for everyone, everywhere to see, right?

From what I'm seeing online through social media, a lot of parents seem to have forgotten that. What saddens me is when I see a post that says, "Her Dad thinks that I have shared too much about the new school year online." That, right there should be a time for Mom to step back and look at what she is sharing online.

How do you as a parent recognize when you have shared too much? Or, is it something that has never crossed your mind? Now I understand that our digital world is a lot different from when our boys were younger, but I do still think twice before I share something about them.

We are a very digital oriented society. Our kids are growing up using technology, which I do believe is a good thing; but it's also important to remember that kids still need to know how to talk to people. When a person sits behind a computer screen they think they are anonymous and they can spout off at the mouth. Ummm, not so.

Kids are reading what Mom and Dad are posting, neighbors and relatives are talking about the posts and things spread like wildfire. And if it's about something that is not true- big problems can set in.

So, the next time you hop on the world wide web, do your family a favor and think about what you are sharing online. Your kids will be grateful and you may even gain a friend or two! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Summer Is Still Alive, But Fall Is Knocking On Our Doorsteps

OK~ It's that time of year when I'm really not ready for Summer to end, but I know it's coming. Just look at how beautiful our skies were today. All of this green will soon turn to crops that will be ready for harvest with their brown hue. I will miss all of this green.

And then there are the apple trees. Our apple trees have produced a nice crop this year and I'm excited about that.

With Fall knocking on our doorsteps, it's time to think about getting ready for all that cold that is sure to arrive too soon! So, I'm thinking I need to take inventory of my sweaters, although it seems like I just packed them away. They were packed away the middle of June, which was three short months ago. I have not been in a clothing store for a few weeks, but I'm thinking it's safe to presume that Fall clothing is out in full force. The thermometer is reading upper 70's to 80's, so I can continue to sport my summer clothing.

The new school year has officially started for most families. For many it seems that the new school year means the welcoming of Fall. For me, I'm sticking with the calendar. I've got a few more Summer days!

At what point does Fall become reality for you? I'm seriously digging my heels on this one. I want the color to stay, I want the warm temps to stay and it's fair to say that I'm not ready for Fall colors! How do you accept the change of the seasons? Do you welcome them or want the current one to stay? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
