WaterSavers Travel Prize Package Giveaway

WaterSavers Travel Prize Package Giveaway

WaterSavers Travel Prize Package Giveaway

And we can officially say we have Winter in North Iowa, as we are hovering near the single digits. Just today I headed to the gas station to be sure I had more than 1/2 a tank of fuel. I did not want to find myself with car issues with the cold temps.

Americans’ love affair with their cars is well documented, along with the dollars they spend each year to keep them running. This is particularly evident in the winter time when the harsh elements can challenge even the most conscientious car owners. One thing’s for sure: Keeping your vehicle in good condition will ensure a safer ride in the short term and a higher resale or trade-in value down the road.
WaterSavers has created a prize package to help you feel prepared for winter. One lucky reader will receive a Travel Prize Package that includes:
  • Thermal travel mug
  • Fleece travel blanket
  • Hand Mitt ice scraper
  • $30 VISA Gift Card
*This giveaway is open to the US only and ends 01/07/15 at 11:59pm CST Good luck!

The inTANDEM Workspace in Webster City Offers Solutions For Businesses

OK~ The North Iowa Bloggers and I recently spent one whole day exploring Webster City, Iowa. While in town we visited several local shops and even met the Mayor of Webster City. One of the highlights of my day was learning about the inTANDEM Workspace that is located at 501 Bank Street.

Due to the fact that I own a business and work out of my home, I was intrigued by this concept. The inTANDEM Workspace is designed to serve a community of like- minded professionals, who want a different kind of place to work. So, you are now asking, "What does that mean?" Well, the inTANDEM Workspace is a place where like minded individuals gather. If your business is a start up and looking to meet people in the community, this is your space! If you work from home and need an occasional place to gather and meet clients, this is your space! How cool is that? I absolutely loved this concept.

I have been to offices that offer meeting rooms, but I have never been greeted by such a fun, welcoming environment. The bright, bold colors did it for me. It's no secret that here in Iowa in the Winter we can go long periods of time without much sun. This type of workspace would be ideal for someone that needs to be surrounded with enthusiasm and energy, which would be me.

Thank you to Amy of Modern Rural Living for sharing this photo

There are dedicated and mobile member spaces available, as well as daily passes, which are available from 9 am-5 pm (Monday-Friday) to use the workspace, free high speed wireless internet, and coffee. And the best part of this setting, is that other people are around. Who doesn't love an opportunity to network? If you have any questions, give Darcy a call at 515-835-0437, she will be glad to help you and figure out how inTANDEM Workspace can work for you.

Does your community have a workspace like this? If so, have you used it and what are the benefits for you? I'm thinking this is the way many entrepreneurs will be working, as they look for new ways to meet people. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*Thank you Deb Brown and Webster City for rollin out the red carpet, your hospitality was top notch.

Omaha Steaks: Your Holiday Party Took a Tasty New Twist

Omaha Steaks has provided me with the following product for a review on my blog. I was not paid for this article. All opinions of Omaha Steaks & the products are my own.

OK~ Who knew that Omaha Steaks offered so many things other then steak? I know that I sure did not until these amazing Sea Salt Caramel Brownies were available from Omaha Steaks. These were mouth watering and truly amazing! My whole family LOVED these! You could add a scoop of ice cream or a dash of whipped topping with a cherry, but you know what? These are truly amazing alone and so easy to prepare. Remove them from the freezer and the individual cup, let them thaw out for approximately two hours and just like that, you have a mouthwatering brownie.

And then there was a box of Caramel Apple Tartlets that were truly amazing! The one thing I noticed in both of these fine desserts from Omaha Steaks was that the caramel was soooo good. If you love a good apple and caramel, you will enjoy the Caramel Apple Tartlet. Pair this tartlet with a little ice cream, whipped topping or whatever you enjoy and you have yourself the dessert of your dreams!

Is a holiday party on your horizon? The solution for you is The Party Pack from Omaha Steaks. Christmas and New Years are two times of year when people are getting together and celebrating. Omaha Steaks provides all the fixings, the desserts, side dishes, steaks, fish, burgers and more! If you want to have it at your party, Omaha Steaks is your go to solution.

Here is what you will find in The Party Pack:

2 lbs. bag of Coconut Shrimp, 7.5 oz. Jar of Apricot Mango Wasabi Sauce, 20 oz All Beef Meatballs and 3- 10 oz Salame).

You will be ready to serve up a festive celebration with crunchy, easy to prepare Coconut Shrimp, which go perfectly with Omaha Steak's Apricot Mango Wasabi Sauce. Round out your appetizer table with Omaha Steaks All Beef Meatballs and the Chef's Sampler featuring flavorful Salame Toscano, Salame Sopressata and Italian Dry Salame. The Apricot Mango Wasabi Sauce is also the perfect compliment to pork chops, shrimp, egg rolls and even mahi mahi. For this challenged lady in the kitchen, this is like the sauce of my dreams! Use it as a dipping sauce or a sauce to cover your meat with. This is the ideal solution when it comes to adding a little "zing" to your meat.

Omaha Steaks makes the holidays super easy, with convenient ways to order (online, toll-free phone number, retail stores, even mail) direct-to-your-doorstep delivery, and gifts that everyone loves. Do you need a gift card? Omaha Steaks even has you covered in that department!

I also had the opportunity to try the lobster tails and I might add, we boiled them and they were cooked to perfection! Add a little holiday plate and you've got yourself a little festive meal with lobster tails.

Omaha Steaks is great around the holidays, but offers a nice solution to meal planning all year long! What are you waiting for, if I were you, I'd be ordering a box of Sea Salt Caramel Brownies as soon as possible, as my mouth is still watering. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

The "Well" Check Up At The Dr. Office Is An Experience This Time Of Year

OK~ I recently went to the Dr. office for a "well" check up and I am regretting the fact that I did not reschedule. It is NEVER a smart idea to schedule a well check up during flu season. My fingers are crossed and I am praying that I do not get whatever the others in the waiting room had. And would someone tell me as to why a person in the waiting room, who is obviously sick, would hold a mask in their hand while they were coughing and spitting all over? I'm all ears on this!

I, myself, have been battling laryngitis for 10 days and today my voice is almost 100%. It's around 90% and improving each day. I was proud of the fact that I was able to get better without a Dr. visit and hopefully keep the flu at bay. After my visit to the Dr. office, I am praying really, really hard that I don't get sick. I do understand that I could pick the flu up almost anywhere while out and about, but I do wipe those shopping carts down and carry the hand sanitizer at all times.

What bothered me about this weeks check up scenario is the fact that I appeared to be the only "well" patient in the waiting room. I'm thinking that these Dr. offices need to have separate waiting areas for ill people and folks that are there for annual check ups. If that is not an option, maybe a phone call offering an opportunity for the "well" patient to reschedule, so they don't become an ill patient in a week or so.

So, tell me, when you are ill and have a Dr.'s appointment, do you wear a mask? Do you cough all over everyone else? Maybe I'm being too picky and thinking this is not an issue. I get it, Dr.'s offices want to make money, and this scenario makes perfect sense to me. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Omaha Steaks Offers a Tasty Holiday Meal And Great Gifts For Anyone On Your List

Disclosure: Omaha Steaks has provided me with the following product for a review on my blog. I was not paid for this article. All opinions of Omaha Steaks & the products are my own.

OK~ I will admit it I had never had an Omaha Steak up until a couple days ago and let me tell you, these steaks are awesome! Do you still need to get a last minute gift for someone on your list? Several amazing, tasty gifts are available through Omaha Steaks that are guaranteed to make someone's holiday a little extra special. And it's important to note, that Omaha Steaks offers much more than just steaks.

Our family recently dined on 5 oz. Triple Trimmed® Filet Mignons accompanied with stuffed baked potatoes and green beans. It's important to note, that if you are not 100% satisfied with your Omaha steaks, the good folks over at Omaha Steaks will replace or refund your order.

This 5 oz. Triple Trimmed® Filet Mignon was absolutely amazing! We tend to bake our steaks with a copy cat recipe of a local steakhouse from Debbie's Midwestern Kitchen. The recipe consists of butter and some amazing seasonings, check it out here! We have been buying our filets from a local meat shop, which have been very good. I must tell you that Omaha Steaks really surprised my whole family, as there was even a muttering of, "These steaks are very tender." I knew at that point that the rest of my family felt the same way I did about these Omaha steaks, they were amazing!

We have gotten into the habit of growing a lot more fresh vegetables in our garden the past couple years and we do still have potatoes, so these stuffed baked potatoes were a nice surprise. One of my boys, that does not like baked potatoes, ate every last bit of this one! That to me, says that these stuffed baked potatoes rocked!

The green beans were seriously as good as garden, fresh green beans.

These green beans were very colorful, which is a "must" in my book and they were crunchy, not mushy! They were just as though they had been freshly harvested. These filets, stuffed baked potatoes and green beans made an amazing meal. These three items combined would be a fantastic Christmas dinner or any other special family meal.

The Party Pack makes an ideal gift for your friends at the office. Check out this spread!

You’ll be ready to serve up a festive celebration with crunchy, easy-to-prepare Coconut Shrimp, which go perfectly with our Apricot Mango Wasabi Sauce. Round out your appetizer table with Omaha Steaks All Beef Meatballs and the Chef’s Sampler featuring flavorful Salame Toscano, Salame Sopressata and Italian Dry Salame.
  • This one package is perfect for a party; add some cheese, fruit, beverages and you’re ready to go!
  • You can serve the shrimp for dinner, take the meatballs to the office and wrap up the salames as a hostess gift.
  • The Apricot Mango Wasabi Sauce blends the sweetness of apricots and mango with the kick of wasabi. You can use it for a dipping sauce for shrimp or egg rolls, or the base for stir fry. Also pairs well with pork chops, mahi mahi and chicken.
There is no reason for anyone to have a boring dinner this holiday season when Omaha Steaks are available. From your family dinner to the office gifts, Omaha Steaks has you covered. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share this product with all of you, as it is one meal that my family cannot wait to dine on again! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

OK~ I recently had the opportunity to review a pair of Sol Republic TRACKS AIR headphones and let me tell you, these rock! Our home is filled with more than a pair of headphones and we did not have a pair of these in the house, so it was a perfect item to review.

The North Iowa Bloggers Visit Webster City, Iowa

OK~ So the North Iowa Bloggers and I packed up our cars and headed to Webster City for an adventure. And I kid you not, Webster City did not disappoint. We were greeted with kringla and all sorts of baked goodies at SOS Vintage of Webster City. The Mayor of Webster City, Doug Getter shared how strong community support is in Webster City and that was quite evident upon our arrival. A nice variety of shops lined Main Street and we quickly learned from store owners that the community supports "local" and believes in what Webster City is all about. A huge thank you to Webster City for hosting us on this day!

Deb Brown, Webster City's Chamber Director, was our tour guide for the day. In case you don't know who Deb is, I'd suggest you read her blog, Need a Little Advice! Deb has been a friend of mine for several years and I have watched her embrace social media and literally change communities for the better. She is a community supporter and is a connector.

A stop into Gilbert Jewelers got us all in the Christmas spirit. And the store windows here were absolutely stunning!

Classic Carpet and Interiors offered a nice selection of holiday decorations, traditional home décor, floor coverings, furniture and even bedding! The R Company served up mimosas and shared their story. Talk about a fun place to purchase higher end consignment clothing, with fun accessories and great customer service.

The Produce Station Pottery was one of the first shops that I stumbled upon when I came into town. I thought to myself, "I hope we get to go there." Talk about a fun pottery studio, check this out!

The pottery in this studio was amazing! It's no secret that I am not a huge fan of art, but the older I get the more I appreciate it. This shop inspired me. We were even served mug cakes- how cool is this?

Osweilers Fashions is a women's clothing store with clothing designed for the teenager to the retired lady. The outfits were fun, colorful and came in a wide variety of sizes. If there's one thing that stood out about Osweilers Fashions it was the fact that they offered excellent customer service. They specialize in completing an outfit for you. If you struggle with finding the right accessories to complete an outfit, the employees in this store will make sure you look awesome when you leave with your purchase.

Stony Creek Landscapes is a design gallery that will give your yard a whole new makeover or just a partial one if you choose. The design ideas you will find here will set your yard apart from everyone else. From unique garden sculptures to shrubs, they have you covered.

The Grid Iron Grill  served up fried pickles, chicken sandwiches, french dips, burgers and just about anything else you can find in a local sports bar. The sports memorabilia throughout the restaurant was fun to look at.

The Jane Young House and Kendall Young Library were two other stops on our visit to Webster City. We were taken back to the 1800's and learned about the history of these two historical sites in town.

Heart 'N Home offered scarf tying lessons for all of us.

Are you embracing the new fashion trend of sporting a scarf? If not, you probably should be, as they are everywhere! This fun shop was home to sweaters, scarves, wall décor, Christmas decorations, and about anything else that you can imagine for you and/or your home.

A stop at the inTANDEM Workspace intrigued all of us bloggers. As entrepreneurs, we all appreciate a workspace for folks that are looking for their "own" space, outside of their home. From a daily pass of $10 to use this space, there's a space here for you and whatever it is that you like to do. Beth Ann of It's Just Life, Jeni of JeniEats, Donna of, Alicia of Fit & Farm, and Amy of Modern Rural Living accompanied me on this fun day in Webster City!

Stay tuned.... as I'll have more to share about Webster City in the next few days! A special thank you to the Webster City Chamber of Commerce for hosting the North Iowa Bloggers on Saturday, December 13, 2014. It's also quite obvious that one day was not enough time to explore Webster City and all it has to offer. Have you visited Webster City? If so, what did you like most about this community? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Christmas By The Lake: Clear Lake, Iowa

OK~ There's something to be said about a Christmas Parade in Iowa when it's 30 degrees outdoors, it's kind of nice! We attended the Christmas Parade in Clear Lake, Iowa this past weekend and the weather was fabulous. In case you don't know. Clear Lake, Iowa is home to, what has been ranked, as THE BEST place in the MidWest to be for a Christmas Celebration! And let me tell you, it's the people that make this event rock! This is at the back of the parade and everyone is heading to the lakefront for the HUGE fireworks display.

The activities over the weekend are phenomenal. There is literally something for all family members all weekend long. From craft activities for kids to decorated Christmas décor for the holidays, this celebration in Clear Lake, Iowa has you covered! And who doesn't enjoy a visit with Santa? Check out Santa's home in Clear Lake, Iowa.

And to top off the weekend the Polar Bear Swim takes place. And you know what that means? People of all ages jump into the frigid waters of Clear Lake to raise money for such organizations as Make a Wish. The highlight of this event is often the mad rush to the hot tubs that have been strategically placed nearby.

The Christmas Parade takes off at 5 p.m. and is followed by a spectacular fireworks show over the frozen lake.

And if you were positioned just right throughout the day you found yourself chasing 6 geese around and maybe being surrounded by a wonderful group of Christmas Carolers.

The charm of Clear Lake and the people make this event one of Iowa's premiere events all year long. The best part this year was the warmer temps as I can recall attending this parade in below zero temps when our boys were younger. So, tell me. Does your community have a Christmas Celebration and if they do, how do all of you celebrate? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Introducing You To New Colgate® Enamel Health™

OK~ My teeth have recently been quite the story in my life. There's something about aging and teeth that makes me shake my head. Why is it that when I eat even the simplest foods, a portion of a tooth will fall out? So, when I had the opportunity to review a new toothpaste with a fancy new toothbrush, I said YES! And due to the fact that I recently had my teeth cleaned, I can tell you that after using this fantastic new COLGATE ®ENAMEL HEALTH ™ my teeth are still pearly white like they were a couple weeks ago. Here are some of the details that you may want to know when it comes to keeping your teeth white. Due to the fact that I have a little bit of recession with my teeth, the soft Colgate® 360• ® Enamel Health ™ Manual Toothbrush is perfect for people like me when combined with toothpaste that rocks!

A New Line of Oral Care Products that Replenish and Polish for Stronger, Healthy  Enamel

Colgate-Palmolive Company (“Colgate”) is proud to expand its oral care portfolio with the introduction of NEWColgate® Enamel HealthTM - a new line of products uniquely formulated to replenish and polish for stronger, healthy enamel.

When your enamel isn’t properly maintained, it can become rough and more susceptible to damage. But your dental hygienist has the secret to helping to keep your smile beautiful. By polishing your teeth, they go beyond cleaning to replenish natural calcium and gently polish your enamel, making germs less likely to stick.  Now you can help maintain the work your hygienist does in between visits everyday with Colgate® Enamel Health TM Toothpaste.

The NEW Colgate® Enamel Health TM Toothpaste helps smooth enamel in two ways:

1.     Helps replenish natural calcium and other minerals back into weakened enamel, filling rough spots and making it stronger
2.     Gently polishes the enamel surface with gentle micro-polishing action, so germs are less likely to stick to teeth

To complete the line, the Colgate® 360°® Enamel Health™ Manual Toothbrush has several features that complement the toothpaste. The uniquely designed bristles help protect enamel surfaces and gums, while the polishing whitening cups gently remove stains for a brighter smile. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

*I did receive one tube of toothpaste and one toothbrush for this review. The opinions expressed in this post are mine and nobody else's.

OK~ December has arrived and it's no secret that it gets very cold in Iowa. Winter is not one of my favorite times of the year. The older I get, the less I appreciate the cold. Did you know that you should winterize your mobile device? Most people winterize their camper, garden, home,  lawn and sprinklers before the snow flies and temperature falls. There also are wireless winter steps that you can take in an effort to keep your smartphone and tablet from freezing up during cold temperatures.

Families are using mobile devices to make their lives easier, more efficient and meaningful. During harsh winter conditions, it's a good idea to keep your device safe from the cold. This is my reminder to not leave my smartphone in the car when I go into the YMCA to workout. I have been in the habit of not taking it with me, but will be sure to from now on. I am in the habit of checking WeatherBug daily, but need to be smarter in how I use the information from this handy weather app. And there's no time like the present when it comes to watching the approach of the next winter storm on Weather Radar.

Here are some tips from U.S. Cellular to protect your mobile devices from the cold:

  • Invest in a LifeProof Case ( I have one and love it). This case is rugged and waterproof and it can also protect your smartphone from frigid temperatures, ice, and snow.
  • Battery life is so important 365 days of the year. When cellphone batteries are exposed to cold temps, their performance dips like the winter mercury. Cellphone batteries that would provide 100 percent capacity at 80 degrees will typically only deliver 50 percent when it is 0 degrees outdoors.
  • Keep your cellphone dry. Did you know that you when your cell phone gets wet that the display screen can be impacted? The display cover can become brittle when exposed to cold temperatures for an extended period of tim, which causes the liquid crystals within the display to start freezing.
  • The Kyocera DuraForce is an ultra-rugged smartphone that is certified to operate all the way down to negative 22 degrees Fahrenheit. It is also certified wIP68 waterproof, so it can be fully submerged up to 6 feet for up to 30 minutes, and with its "Wet & Glove Touchscreen Option" you can use the phone while wearing your winter gloves and the touchscreen will continue to operate when the phone gets snow or ran on it.

By keeping your mobile device warm, you will be able to experience those Better Moments with your family and simplify your life on a daily basis.

Cooler weather is also a time of year when many folks have too much time on their hands. If you have not invested in U.S.Cellular's Parent/Child Agreement App, I'd encourage you to do that now. There is no time like the present when it comes to keeping your family safe online. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Coming Home For Thanksgiving

OK~ There's something to be said about coming home for Thanksgiving. Our boys are young adult men and this was the first year that we found ourselves saying, "Should we buy that? The boys will be home". There are certain items that we just never keep in the cupboards anymore and we found ourselves tossing things into the cart that we knew they enjoyed. Has this ever happened to you?

As our boys hung out this Thanksgiving I began to think about how quickly life seems to pass us by. It seems like yesterday we were hurrying to this Grandma's house and that Grandma's house for Thanksgiving and now that they are grown, we quite often stay home and it's just the four of us. It's quiet and simple. Do I miss the days of running everywhere? No..... But what I miss are the simple times of gathering everyone together. Life is so chaotic now that it's hard to find a day where everyone from the extended family can get together, do you find that in your family too? It's much easier planning for four people, as opposed to twenty.

We spent a portion of our time strolling our downtown. Our downtown is all decorated for Christmas and it is a safe, welcoming place to be.

I also consider myself to be challenged when it comes to cooking. I am not a star cook and will never be. But you know what? There are certain dishes that my boys grew up eating and it's kind of fun to see them still gobble that food down. That got me thinking. How often does a 20 something that lives on their own eat a home cooked meal?

There's a lot to be said about just plain old being together on Thanksgiving. A turkey and family togetherness goes a long ways when it comes to a holiday. And the noise and chaos may return someday when little kids appear again in our immediate family, which will be just fine. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
