Opportunity To Be The Star On U.S. Cellular's Big Country #USCCBigCountry #SPONSORED

Disclosure: As part of the Better Moments Brigade Program, I did receive compensation for this post. The opinions here are mine and nobody else's. I have been a U.S. Cellular customer for 15+ years. In fact, I have never been with another cell phone company.

OK~ As someone who resides in Rural America, smack dab in the middle of the country, Iowa. I love being able to travel North, South, East and West. It's really a great location for travel, as I can get away from the peace and quiet we have in Iowa to enjoy a city or two. And the beauty of being in the middle of the country means that I am not 4,000 miles from one end of the country to the other. I was actually very surprised to learn that 30 percent of Americans have never traveled across the country. This was the result of an online survey of 3,562 nationally-representative smart phone owners conducted by Ipsos Marketing on behalf of U.S. Cellular. The survey was conducted June 18-25, 2015.

Maybe travel was something you have always wanted to do, but it just never fit into your family budget or the timing was never right. U.S. Cellular is going to help fix that! U.S. Cellular is teaming up with award-winning television personality, chef and food writer, Andrew Zimmern, to premiere "Big Country" a five-episode digital series where U.S. Cellular and Zimmern will take folks that have never ventured far from home to cities such as New York City, Portland, Maine, Bend, Oregon and San Francisco!

Sounds fun, doesn't it? Check out the episodes that have played. This will be an amazing experience for someone and I honestly hope it's one of you.

One lucky person is going to be the star of the series finale~ Episode 5. Wanna go? Should you win? Believe me, that's another blog post all of it's own!

Did you also know that people travel mostly because they want to see new places? Makes sense to me... Although, I am a creature of habit. My parents took me to Walt Disney World in January of 1972 and I still have park tickets from that visit! And you know what? I was hooked... I visited at five and have had more than 20 awesome visits to the most magical place on earth. Travel is in my blood and I am a travel junkie!

So, here's your chance.....  you can travel with "Big Country" and stay in touch with everyone with U.S. Cellular's national coverage from coast to coast!

To toss your name into the hat, head on over to Travel Channel page to apply. You, yourself can apply, or you can nominate a friend; now through August 10, 2015.

This is your chance to explore the U.S. with Andrew Zimmern and national coverage with U.S. Cellular. What are you waiting for? Apply today! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Alcoholic Beverages At Community Events: Are They Always Necessary?

OK~ Not sure where this post is going, but it saddens me to see that several young people in our community have recently been arrested with owi's, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, and possession of alcohol under age. I get it- teens and young adults are defiant and many do receive a ticket for under age consumption of alcohol. Fortunately, most learn from the first incident and things improve.

Neither my husband nor I are party, go out to the bar people and drink. It seems that every event in our community is built around alcohol. Can people not have a good time unless they have a drink in their hand? Beer tents are at every event and I then think, "How are these people driving home?" Let's face it- the roads cannot be safe around these venues when the night comes to a close.

I know this will never happen, but in an ideal world it would be nice to have community events that are not based around alcohol. I have no desire to be around people that indulge too much and become a nuisance. And unfortunately, the few events we have attended where alcohol is everywhere, we have witnessed this. And it seems that our young people are picking up on this and taking it to a new level.

It can be argued that teens and young adults have always drank. But really, don't people grow up at some point? It appears not.

The beauty of this is that I can choose not to attend and stay home. Nothing wrong with that. Yet in all honesty, I would like to show community support with my attendance, as its people being active, out and about in a community that make communities successful.

The root beer at the local brewery is not that bad- and I get to see a few people and hear some music! But you know what? If some of these breweries and other events advertised that they offered a non-alcoholic option, I do think more people would check out these establishments and events.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Am I being a complainer or is this something that bothers you, as well? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Wide Open Spaces In Iowa

OK~ There's a lot to be said about living in Iowa. It's relatively quiet and there is a lot of open space. Just the other night, we were walking down our road and I began to think of how lucky we were. We can travel to crazy, busy cities and we can come home to unwind in this atmosphere.

This shows our freshly mowed grass, and as you can tell, it had not been tossed around much with the gravel. On a busy day, we often have five cars that travel by our house. I began to think of what a view this is! You know, it's honestly a view that I take for granted day in and day out.

The corn is tall and the soybean fields are really, really green.

Here in Iowa we are truly blessed with wide open spaces! Do you have wide open views where you live or do you have to struggle to find one? It's really all about perspective. Iowa is a relatively quiet place to live and it is all about what you make of it.

So... tell me! What do you enjoy most about wide open spaces and do you have them in your backyard? After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Downy Wrinkle Releaser Plus Review and Summer Prize Pack Giveaway

OK- I have been using Downy Wrinkle Releaser Plus on a regular basis now and let me tell you, this stuff is amazing!

It is now officially summer, which means travel season is in full swing. And the last thing anyone on vacation wants to deal with is wrinkly clothing. For decades people have perfected specialized packing techniques, even purchased wrinkle-free clothing just for traveling. Whether you are traveling for vacation or work, Downy Wrinkle Releaser Plus wants you to forget about putting that hotel iron to work. With Downy Wrinkle Releaser Plus travelers can simply spray clothes, tug out any visible wrinkles, smooth the fabric, allow the garment to dry and be wrinkle, static and odor free in less than five minutes. Silicones in Downy Wrinkle Release Plus grip the fabric fibers in garments making it possible for them to slide against each other rather than being frozen in a crease.

The beauty of this product is the fact that it really is this simple to use! I have found the scent to be OK, it appears to be heavy when sprayed on, but when it dries; clothing actually smells very nice. This product also works well on cloth furniture. I wish it was around when my boys were younger and they were spilling everything and anything on it. This product would have brought it back to life in a flash.

We've got a nice summer/travel giveaway for you, valued at $60 and includes a travel toiletry bag, neck pillow, Travel sized bottle of Downy Wrinkle Releaser Plus, and several other handy travel items. Enter through the Rafflecopter form below and you may find that you no longer need to dig around in the closet of your hotel room to find the nearest ironing board. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Living With Thyroid Issues Just Got Easier: Thyroid Bundle Available Through July 22, 2015

Disclosure: Affiliate Links are included in this post. As always the opinions are my own. As a two time thyroid cancer survivor, I understand how real the thyroid battles are. I am not a physician and am sharing some solutions that may help you live a healthier life.

OK~ As a two time thyroid cancer survivor, I know there are many of you that can relate to thyroid issues. You know, the trying to find the right medicines, the itchy skin to the thinning hair- Yeah, you get it, don't you?

I was diagnosed with my first round of thyroid cancer at the age of 20, and that was (hmmm) 28 years ago. It's never fun to hear the word "cancer" from a Doctor, but I am so happy that I have been able to help others cope with a thyroid cancer diagnosis through the years. 99% of the time, it's a manageable cancer. I quickly learned that often times when a friend received the diagnosis of thyroid cancer, was the fact that all they needed to see was a living, walking, human being talking with them while in a hospital bed.

Are you always looking for healthy recipes that fit in with your "thyroid" diet! Here's a FREE solution for you!

Back in the day, 1987, there were no resources available like there are today. Once we all took to the internet and social media things began to change. It was easier to find people that had thyroid issues and all the fun things that go with it.

I recently stumbled upon a resource that has a ton of information in it.

Now through July 22, 2015, you can purchase a HUGE thyroid bundle, packed full of information to help you find your new normal when it comes to you and your thyroid!

I love that there are now resources available for those of us dealing with thyroid issues. From Facebook Groups to online chat rooms, the internet has brought us all together. Learning to live with thyroid issues can be challenging, but it's sure a lot easier when you can find people that understand what you are going through! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Pureology Products Are Available At Reflections Salon In Mason City

OK~ Disclosure: I did receive two sample products for this review and the opinions here are mine and nobody else's.

I recently had the opportunity to review a new product that Reflections Salon in Mason City, Iowa is now carrying. If you have not tried Pureology Cleansing Conditioners and other products, I would suggest you try them and here's why.

  • The Hydrate sample had an amazing scent, I honestly left it on my hair longer than recommended just so I could smell it.
  • Both products the Hydrate and Strength Cure required minimal water and were very, very easy to rinse out.
  • My hair felt light and not heavy after I used these products.
  • The strength cure had a scent that I did not care for, but all in all, should scent be the #1 reason to use a product? Could be for some, but not for me. My hair felt nice and clean after using it.
The one thing that was different from this product and any others I have used was the fact that my hair did not immediately feel smooth. You know that extra smooth feeling that you get when you usually pile on hair conditioner? I do believe that there is a reason for that, as I do believe that Pureology is designed to strengthen your hair, which is not always something that you can feel immediately.

Pureology does offer a Super Smooth product for unmanageable coulour treated hair and I do think this would be the solution for those wanting that extra smooth feeling right away.

If you are wanting to learn more about Pureology and what this product can do for you, I would suggest you call 641-424-7001 to schedule an appointment with a cosmetologist that can help you make the right choices for your hair type. The staff at Reflections Salon in Mason City, Iowa, is ready and willing to help you. They want you to be 100% satisfied with your products and the services they provide. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Be sure to give Reflections Salon a "Like" on Facebook to stay in the know on what's happening around their salon!

Thanks Diane for reaching out with samples, so I could share my experience with my readers.

What To Do On A Day With Nothing On The Calendar

OK~  It's been a long time that we have not had anything on the calendar. We recently took advantage of it and spent some quality time together. We had some catch up things to do around the house and yard. You know, those storms that have roared through and left a few branches around? Yes, we finally picked those branches up.

I began to think about how our lives all revolve around our calendars. It is true, I am in charge of my calendar, but it always has something on it. I had no problem making sure I had a day with nothing on it. This forced my hubby and I to go to lunch together, buy a new grill, and even grill supper together.

We both actually found time to sit in a chair outdoors and read. I know, I know, sounds lazy, doesn't it?

Actually, after being so busy and finding ourselves going in a gazillion directions, this was a mental break that we both needed. We enjoyed sitting next to each other in chairs and reading. A little solitude goes a long way.

We took a stroll down the road- nothing wrong with that!

The corn is tall and the road a little dusty, but it's always nice to walk with a wide open sky all around. When it feels like 102 degrees, you can hear the Iowa corn grow!

When is the last time you went for a stroll and had no time commitment? After our day was all said and done, the beauty of it was all of this:

  • Hubby assembled our new charcoal grill (fourth grill in 28+ years)
  • We ate supper at 8:00 p.m.
  • We spent an hour reading
  • We spent 45 minutes strolling down a dirt road
One may argue that we wasted a beautiful Summer day in Iowa. There were a lot of festivals around in our area, but all in all, our day was spent enjoying the great outdoors in our own yard. We both enjoy participating in local events, but in the grand scheme of things, spending time at home together, means more to me than venturing around the community. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Growing Up In Iowa In The 1970's and 1990's Is A Little Different In Comparison To Today

OK~ There's something to be said about growing up in the 70's. I often compared my growing up years to our two boys who were born in 1991 and 1995. Today I find myself comparing how times are different now, as they were when they were growing up. Is Barney the Dinosaur still on television? I honestly have no clue, but I began thinking about that today. I honestly don't think our younger kids of today can sit still to watch a tv show as simple as Barney the Dinosaur. Kids today seem to be attracted to shooting games and anything that is electronic.

I thought back to the days of walking beans in the heat of the summer. Would kids today have the ambition or desire to walk beans for 8-10 hours a day in the summer heat for $10.00 an hour? Keep in mind my siblings and I were 8-14 years old walking beans and we did it for many summers. The answer is still more than likely, "No". Before corn like this came up, we spent hours riding around in the back of a pick-up picking up rocks. Yep, that was summer fun in the 70's, can you relate?

It used to be that kids would search out summer jobs such as mowing lawns, taking care of yards, and the like. Today, with social media in play, I see postings all the time of people looking for someone to do outdoor summer jobs. Kids are nowhere to be found, as they are too busy or don't have a need to bank any money. It could also be that many kids have parents scheduling their calendars so full they honestly have no time for a part time job or any free time to spare.

In the 70's I spent a couple weeks out of the summer at church camp and 4-H camp. When our boys were in scouts, I accompanied the scout troops to summer camp with other adult leaders. In fact, I even came home one year as a certified bb gun instructor for the Boy Scouts of America, how cool is that? Our boys were not only learning new things, but Mom was too! And today, I have to look really hard to find a Boy Scout. Boy Scouting offers skills that boys can use their whole life. Yet, many families don't see the value in it.

So..... the times are a changing and I honestly worry about our youth. Do we still have a work ethic today? And during the 70's I'm sure my Mom worried a little bit about us climbing a tree now and then and wondering who would break their arm next. Thankfully, none of us did fall out of a tree and break an arm, but man, did we have fun climbing those trees! Now, in today's crazy time that we live in, I'm not even sure if kids can still climb trees for fear of hurting themselves or a tree.

In the grand scheme of things, growing up is still growing up. It's all about perspective. If you can have fun, enjoy family time and be healthy- life is good! After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Thank You Beth Ann And Jennifer For Embracing North Iowa Through Social Media

OK~ There's something to be said about a Farewell Tour when it comes to the North Iowa Bloggers. I look at where our little group has been over the past 18 months and just say, "Wow!" We've experienced a lot of amazing things together and, in my opinion, shown others how important it is to support local businesses. Our group is now 20+ strong, and a few months ago, we looked like this.

I really do wish people would hang around a little longer in North Iowa. But, I also understand that folks have to go where the jobs are, and what is best for their families. We do live in a mobile society and it was through a tweet that I met Jennifer Flaa of JeniEats. She was moving to North Iowa and on the hunt for a house. I introduced myself and directed her towards some realtors in North Iowa. We North Iowan's can be grateful that Jennifer took it upon herself to connect with the North Iowa Bloggers. This gave her an avenue to grow her blog and offered a fantastic opportunity to write about her experiences in North Iowa.

It was about the time that I connected with Jennifer on Twitter that I stumbled upon Beth Ann Chiles' blog  It's Just Life. Beth Ann had lived in Mason City for a few years, but our paths had never crossed. Well, once we found each other, we quickly connected and it's all a great story of friendship and blogging from here on out. We traveled on a flight to nowhere and Beth Ann spoke at the North Iowa Social Media Breakfast Club and invited everyone to be "The Ripple" in North Iowa. Take note: People listened to her and are making ripples in North Iowa because of what she challenged folks to do.

We had a  little blogger get together at The Landing in Clear Lake for these two awesome ladies, and of course cruised the Lady of the Lake after our meal! If you search the official Hashtag #FarewellTour2015, you will see a lot of activity is happening with these two bloggers moving.

Jennifer and Beth Ann are both moving out of North Iowa and I can honestly say that they have blessed my life in ways I never imagined. I will miss seeing them in real life, but I also know they are only a Tweet away! Jennifer will be sharing the stage with Donna Hup and I at Bloggy Conference in Ohio, come September. We will be sharing how local has impacted North Iowa and why a local blogging group is not only important for bloggers, but also for communities. Due to the fact that Jennifer was not afraid to connect with new people on Twitter, her blog has grown by leaps and bounds. She is no longer an official North Iowa Blogger, but due to her willingness to dig in her heels, she helped launch the North Iowa Bloggers into the spotlight, which we are all grateful for. And of course, Beth Ann is attending and will be our biggest cheerleader in the audience! We'd love to see all bloggers attend, as we know our story will inspire other communities to embrace bloggers, just as ours has.

Social media will keep us connected and I will be religiously reading their blog posts. Let's face it, who can stand to miss a Tea Pot Tuesday from Beth Ann, right? Jennifer is always trying new foods and with a gazillion grocery stores and restaurants around her new home in St. Louis, I can only imagine the mouth watering foods that she will be serving up.

Thank you to Beth Ann and Jennifer for being a part of my life! I have a feeling we may actually see each other quite a bit over the next year, as social media and blogging keep us all connected. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?

Adlens Sundials Review and Giveaway

OK~ I recently had the opportunity to review a pair of Adlens Sundials. I had never heard of these sunglasses until now. Adlens Sundials offered the ideal solution for what to wear for glasses or contact lenses to the pool or the lake. They were extremely comfortable and lightweight. I had no idea eye wear like this existed until I was approached to review this product.

Adlens Sundial Features:

  • -6D to +3D diopters (If you are like me, this doesn't make sense. It means that you can turn the dial on the side of the sunglasses to your vision level).
  • UVA & UVB protection
  • Continuously adjustable both near and far
  • Each lens can be adjusted separately
  • Easily change out your glasses to match your outdoor needs and activities
  • Can be adjusted to improve vision for 90% of eyeglass wearers and contact lens wearers who do not have astigmatism.
I can tell you that if my boys were younger and I was spending my summers at the local swimming pool like I did for years, a couple pairs of these would be in my beach bag. These were super lightweight and so comfortable. I loved the fact that they offered clear vision and if I felt the vision was a little off, all I had to do was turn the dial. I know these sound to good to be true, but they really are this easy to wear!

A little fun fact:

Two wave-shaped polycarbonate plates slide across one another to change the power of the lens. It's important to note, that this is not noticeable, unless you get eye to eye with the person wearing the Adlens Sundials.

Shipping is a flat rate fee and you can track your shipping throughout the United States.

I received this nice summer prize package with a pair of Adlen Sundials and I have one to give to one of you! Enter through the Rafflecopter form below and you will have a chance at owning a pair of these fun, lightweight, practical sunglasses!
