Many people are complaining that 2016 has been the worst year of their lives. I can tell you that I have had some trials throughout 2016, yet it's been a great year. I truly believe that a lot of of how one feels about a closing year is all in the mindset. The fact that I woke up each day to begin a new day, means 2016 was a good year.
I've observed a lot through social media the past week and it's clear that many families of today simply do not know where or how to find "fun" in their lives. There is no magic pill for fun. Only you can bring happiness to your family and it's really not that hard. Here are some ideas on what you can do to usher in a new found feeling of happiness in your household.
COOK AS A FAMILY
I am serious. Cook together as a family. Your kids will thank you at some point down the road.
Once they are on their own and they don't know how to cook a pot of spaghetti, you've got issues. Don't assume that someone else has shown your kids how to cook. Most likely, your kids will travel through the local Drive-Thru for meals on end. Eating out is expensive and it's also costly from a health perspective, as well.
BREAK OUT THE BOARD GAMES
Good old Monopoly works every time! What family doesn't like the memories that Boardwalk has to offer? When families play together, they do stay together.
This forces everyone in your household to talk to each other and make fun memories. I remember playing the card game ROOK as a child. My great aunts, grandmothers and other relatives would all jump in and play with my siblings and I. Those are some very fond memories. Simple, yet fun!
INVEST IN A HAMSTER
We have been married almost 30 years and have a dog in the house from the start. At some point, our boys insisted we invest in a hamster. Well, let me tell you this. The many hamsters we had through the years provided hours of fun, which included wondering where the hamster escaped to; as well as what new toys the hamster would like. They are easy to care for and they do teach your kids about the responsibilities that it takes to own a pet. Fast forward to Christmas 2016, our hamsters brought many smiles and laughter as our boys remembered those days.
As you can see, it's not about the almighty dollar that you invest. It's about the time and things that you can teach your kids. Make 2017 a good year. In the grand scheme of things, it's your family that matters. It's not the politics, it's not about how much money you have, as it's all about the time that you can give each other. After All, It's All In a Mom's Day, Right?
